The Department of Actuarial Science was honoured to host Mr Vikrant, Senior Vice President – Actuarial at Kotak Life Insurance, for an insightful Orientation Session. With over 17 years of professional experience, including 15 years in the life insurance sector, Mr Vikrant brought a wealth of practical knowledge to the students.
He is a Fellow of both the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI) and the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), UK, specialising in SA2 – Life Insurance. His expertise spans Product Pricing, Asset Liability Management, Prophet Modelling, Participating Fund Management, Statutory Valuation, Group Business, and Reinsurance.
The session covered practical aspects of actuarial work, career progression strategies, and guidance on clearing actuarial exams efficiently. Students actively interacted with the speaker, seeking advice on academics and careers. The session was well-received and set a motivating tone for the semester.
Actuaries Day at IAI

The students of the Department participated in Actuaries Day 2025, an annual celebration organized by the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI). The event featured industry leaders, actuarial professionals, and students, celebrating the growth of the profession.
Highlights included the Presidential Address by Ms. Preeti Chandrashekhar, Keynote by Dr. Prashant Kumar Goyal (Ministry of Finance), and messages from the International Actuarial Association.
A major highlight was the Intergenerational Dialogue – “Then. Now. Next – Celebrating Actuarial Excellence Across Time”, where experienced actuaries and students discussed the evolution and future of the profession. The day concluded with a Fun Quiz, Felicitation of Senior Actuaries, Cake Cutting, and Networking High Tea.
Student Bootcamp at IAI

The Student Bootcamp offered students hands-on exposure to actuarial science, data analytics, and problem-solving methodologies. It featured interactive sessions and expert-led technical demonstrations from experienced industry professionals.
Students brought their laptops to participate in practical exercises, making the event engaging and skill-oriented. The boot camp successfully bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and industry application, providing students with valuable networking and learning opportunities.
Guest Lecture – Knowledge Session on General Insurance (CAS)

A Knowledge Session was hosted in collaboration with CAS, focusing on General Insurance. Industry experts shared real-world insights, actuarial applications, and career opportunities in this growing domain.
The session broadened students’ understanding of general insurance concepts, modelling techniques, and industry trends. The interactive format encouraged students to engage with professionals and clarify their doubts.

Students and faculty members from the Department of Actuarial Science participated in the 25th Global Conference of Actuaries (GCA 2026), the Silver Jubilee edition of India’s premier actuarial conference organized by the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI). The conference was held from 22nd to 24th February 2026 at the Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai, under the theme “Actuarial Pathways to Viksit Bharat: Managing Risks for Inclusive Social and Economic Growth.”
The participation of the department was facilitated under the Future Talent Patron Programme, with the generous support of Star Health and Allied Insurance Co. Ltd. and Generali Central Life Insurance Co. Ltd. Through this initiative, students and faculty members were able to attend the conference without any participation cost, reflecting the actuarial industry’s strong commitment to academic collaboration and the development of future actuarial professionals.
The conference witnessed large-scale participation, attracting over 1,500 delegates and featuring more than 80 global speakers, including policymakers, actuarial experts, and industry leaders from sectors such as insurance, pensions, finance, and risk management.
The technical sessions and discussions focused on how data-driven risk management and actuarial expertise can contribute to India’s vision of becoming a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) by 2047. Key areas of discussion included:
Technological Transformation: The evolving role of actuaries from traditional risk calculators to strategic risk architects in an AI-driven world.
Emerging Risks: Addressing challenges such as climate change, cyber risks, and lifestyle diseases affecting public health and insurance systems.
Financial Inclusion: Exploring pathways for universal insurance coverage and the role of actuaries in public welfare schemes such as Ayushman Bharat.
The sessions were conducted in a plenary format, ensuring a unified learning experience and encouraging meaningful dialogue across different sectors of the actuarial profession.
A significant highlight of the conference was the Actuarial Gala Function & Awards (AGFA 2026), which celebrated the achievements of young professionals and visionary leaders in the actuarial community.
Participation in this prestigious conference provided students and faculty members with valuable exposure to industry practices, emerging trends, and global perspectives in actuarial science. The opportunity to attend technical sessions, interact with industry experts, and network with professionals greatly enriched the academic and professional understanding of the participants.
The conference concluded with a strong reaffirmation of the actuarial profession’s role in building a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable financial ecosystem for the future of India.
