Activities & Events conducted in year 2018-19

Guest lectures organized

65 FYBFM learners participated in a Guest lecture on the Capital market by Mrs. Natasha V Bhamani on 28th July 2018. The speaker gave a brief insight in to the capital market and some useful tips for key investors, while investing in the stock market. It was an investor education programme, initiated by the Bombay Stock Exchange and the Department.

On 23rd August 2018, a seminar on Mental Health Awareness – “Talash Apne Aap Ki” by Dr. Rashmin Cholera was arranged. The chief guest was the MLA of Kandivali Constituency, Shree Atul Bhatkhalkar. The keynote speaker, Dr. Rashmin, Consultant Psychiatrist, Apollo Polyclinic spoke about depression and advised the young learners on how to deal with it. In the light of increasing suicides, this talk was a welcome step. 323 learners participated in it.

On 24th September 2018, an orientation lecture on Skill Development Programme, on the Basics of Stock Market and Fundamental and Technical Analysis was arranged. Mr. Prahlad Tripathi, MD, Eton Advisors introduced the learners to stock market analysis and use of techniques for studying share price movements. 50 learners participated in the lecture which was arranged at the College.

The Department was proud to invite its Alumnus Mr. Aditya Pose, on 29th September 2018, who shared his experience of clearing CFA Level II examination and provided important tips to prepare for various competitive examinations. 64 learners participated in the interactive session and clarified their doubts relating to the additional skills they need to develop along with the studies.

A guest lecture, “Ride over the Skill Gap” was arranged on 15th January 2019. The speaker Mr. Kamlesh Sajnani, MD, IMS Preschool spoke about the importance of possessing different types of skills along with formal education. He spoke about additional skills learners should aquire along with the studies. 250 learners participated in the event.

To teach the leadership qualities to the learners, a guest lecture “The Magic Key of Leadership” was organized by the Department on 29th January 2019, by Shri. Venugopal Acharya (Vraj Bihari Das), Trainer, Bhakti Yoga ISKON. He has authored books like ‘Journey of Self Discovery’, ‘Are you connected’ and ‘Cricket in a Monastery’. He spoke about leadership and attaining a higher perspective in life by inculcating values in life. 250 learners participated in the event.

On 12th March 2019, Department of B.Com. (Financial Markets) invited Mr. Pradeep Pardeshi, Corporate Trainer, to deliver a lecture on skill development, “Best Practice to use Computers (Excel & Power-Point)”. He demonstrated how Excel and Power Point can be used to make the presentation more powerful and effective.


Study Visit

To provide a practical exposure on the working of SEBI, a visit was arranged on 26th July 2018.58 Learners got an opportunity to gain awareness about practices followed by SEBI, while regulating the Securities Markets. Mr. Pradep Bhaumit explained the main functions of the regulator.



Social Activity

In order to spread awareness about ‘Polio Eradication’ on 4th August 2018, 80 learners participated in the Polio Awareness Rally organized by the Rotaract Club of Bombay, Kandivali and BMC. The learners covered an area of 3.5 km in Kandivali village and educated the citizens about the upcoming polio vaccination drive.

On 26th August, Department initiated a “Monsoon Walk”, at Sanjay Gandhi National Park. The aim of this Social Awareness program was to promote Health & Fitness. 300 learners of Thakur College participated in the walk, which helped in collecting Rs 1 lakh, for Annamrita foundation which provides mid-day meal for underprivileged children.



International Conference Organised

On 8th December 2018, Department of B. Com (Financial Markets) along with Department of B.Com (Investment Management) and IQAC of the college hosted an International Conference on the theme, “New Horizons in Banking and Finance: A Gateway of Opportunities for Business Innovations”. The conference provided a platform for discussion and publication of research papers on various related topics. The Chief Guest for the conference was Dr. Keshab Nandy, Director SVP & CVO, Tilaknagar Industries Ltd., whereas the Guest of Honour was G. Chokkalingam, Equinomics Research & Advisory Pvt. Limited. The speakers enlightened the participants with their experience in the industry. 130 researchers from all over India, as well as other countries, participated in the conference.



Workshop Organised

On 23rd February 2019, Department organized, One Day Syllabus Revision Workshop, along with Board of Studies, University of Mumbai. Resource Person for the workshop was Dr. Khyati Vora, member, BOS- Financial Markets. Faculty members of other colleges, alumni and learners participated in the discussion.


Intercollegiate Event

Finstreet: Department of B. Com (Financial Markets) organized an Intercollegiate Financial Festival, ‘Finstreet’, on 8th February 2019. More than 150 participants from 19 Colleges participated in it. ‘Finstreet’ gives an eagle view of the world of financial markets. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Chandru Badrinarayanan, Executive Director & Head, Clint Coverage South Asia-MSCI. The Festival caters events like Mock stock, MCX Deal-icious, Crypto chase, Money Multiplier, Fin Bid and Casino. ‘Finstreet’ always promises to deliver the best experience of financial world. N.K. College won the Best College Award, whereas Hinduja College was the runner up.
