Department of BAF

Since its establishment in the year 2003 - 04, the department has grown up achieving major milestones. Current Academic Year 2024-25 has been a quite uplifting year for the department due to unlock not only in academics but also in extra- curricular activities. This can be attributed to the dedication and team spirit of students, staff of BAF Department.

Activities

Railway Painting

On 9th of June 2024, BAF department started with the Borivali Railway Station Painting. Along with 50 students of BAF department, Students painted a total of 30 boards on the railway station fly overs which mainly had the theme of Clean India, Green India and social awareness. By 14th of July 2024, the students completed this activity. From repainting the boards, to finding a unique design, from drawing to painting, each and every student played an important role for this. Students thanked Dr. Nishikant Jha , Vice Principal and BAF Coordinator  and the station master of Borivali Railway station for giving them this opportunity and making them understand the value of coordination, working together, and why cleaning the environment is important.







Jashn 2K24

On July 24th, 2024, the Department of B.Com (Accounting and Finance) hosted a vibrant fresher's event, 'Jashn,' to welcome the new first-year students. The event was thoughtfully organized by the second- and third-year students, with the support of the faculty and the esteemed Vice Principal, Dr. Nishikant Jha. Dr. Jha set a warm and welcoming tone for the day with an inspiring speech, officially embracing the new members of the BAF Parivaar at the start of the event. 

Our esteemed panel of judges for the event included Mr. Aryamaan Suresh, a talented beatboxer, flutist, and flute boxer, who is also a proud alumnus of the BAF Department; Ms. Aayushi Dubey, the first runner-up of Miss P&I India, a trained Bharatanatyam dancer, and a skilled martial artist; and  Mr. Jitesh V Shirishkar, a renowned choreographer and performer featured in the Zee TV serial Jodha Akbar.

We had three finalists from both the boys  and girls categories, each of whom faced a series of questions from the judges. After careful consideration, the winners were announced: Mr. Kartik was crowned Mr. Fresher, and Ms. Thwisha Shetty was crowned Ms. Fresher for Jashn 2024.

The event proved to be a memorable start to the year for the first-year learners

Tree Plantation 

Department of BAF initiated a Tree Plantation drive with FY, SY & TY BAF students under the guidance of the Vice Principal and co-ordinator of the BAF department, Dr Nishikant Jha, and  few other faculties members in association with the  Mrs Khatri Ma'am (Recipient of President Award) and with the cooperation of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) along with other local help. The drive was carried out on 9th August, 2024. All the participant students reported to the college campus at 8:00 AM with great enthusiasm and then proceeded towards Green Hills, Lokhandwala Twp. Kandivali (E). The day started with some encouraging speeches given by Mrs Khatri Ma'am, who made students understand the agenda for which they gathered there that day. She spoke about how every human being has some social responsibility towards the nourishment of Mother Nature and how every citizen should take part in the task of nurturing the environment by being selfless. Every member present there made extreme efforts to situate various plants such as Gulmohar, Jamun, etc. Approximately 252 plants were planted on that day. Total Number of Students Participants in Tree plantation were 63.



Dance Competition

Department of BAF conducted an online Dance Competition on the theme “National Integration”. In this competition the students are required to perform on the different culture apart for the culture or state where they belong. National Integration aims to keep the entire country strong, despite the differences in culture, language, and livelihood. The objective of such competition is to endorse brotherhood, peace and tolerance among them. The Students are required to not only focus only on dance they are required to also focus on editing skills. Total Number of students participated is 13 students. The Competition was held on 14th August 2024.The students were told to send the dance video via mail

MANTRA 2024

On 21th of August,2024, the BAF Department organized  Mantra - 16th edition. A formal event where one of the knowledgeable speakers joins us to share us some few words about a certain topic. 350 students attended this amazing session. This year  DR. RADHA KUMAR who is an Associate Professor in the Department of Ancient Indian, History, Culture and Archaeology, St Xavier’s College; gave her  invaluable insights and experiences which undoubtedly left an indelible mark on our minds. The session was in line with to IKS, (INDIAN KNOWLEDGE SYSTEM), which stuudents are studying in NEP 2020. Dr Radha Kumar is a distinguished and versatile professional whose expertise spans multiple fields. Her exceptional skills in ANCIENT INDIAN HISTORY, SANGIT ALANKAAR IN SITAR AND BHARATNATYAM, and KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE INDIAN TRADITION,  consistently demonstrated her ability to excel and innovate. She talked about how India's history plays such an immense role in India's Future.

1.Mahek Verma (SyBAF A):Mantra was an enlightening experience. The focus on the Indian Knowledge System was truly inspiring, and it made us appreciate the depth of our heritage. The event was very well-organized and engaging.

I really enjoyed Mantra. The discussions on the Indian Knowledge System were insightful and thought-provoking. It was a great blend of learning and interaction. Kudos to the organizers!

Mantra was a wonderful event that shed light on the richness of the Indian Knowledge System. The speakers and sessions were very informative, and the entire program was well-planned. It was a great learning experience!

Yoga a way of Life

Number of Participants: 170 students

Department of B.Com (Accounting and Finance) conducted an online event on the theme of “Yoga a way of life” from 15th September, 17th & 18th September 2024 morning 7-9am through Google Meet, wherein the objectives were to familiarize learners with Pranayam, Chakras, chanting of Mantra OM, complete process of performing these exercises with span of time, number of times, its importance on our Physical and mental health, thought process and behaviour. Total 170 students participated in the event. We invited Asst. Prof. Dr. Bhavik Sawadia (D. Litt, Ph.D, M.Com, LLB, GSET, B.Ed) from GLS (Gujarat Law Society)University. He is renowned for his contribution in the society for training people about Yoga and its importance in our life. 




Tree Plantation Drive at Borivali Railway Station Under "Swachhata Hi Seva" Campaign on 21/9/2024

Department of BAF coordinated with for Tree Plantation Drive at Borivali Railway Station Under "Swachhata Hi Seva" Campaign on 20/9/2024 and contributed to the beautification of the station premises and to inspire future generations to take responsibility for the environment. The aim of Railways to create a cleaner, greener environment by involving local communities, schools, NGOs, and trusts in this noble endeavour.


GST WORKSHOP

Date of the Event:  27th September 2024

On 27th September 2024, the Department of BAF and Junior College (Accounts department) of a Thakur College of Science and Commerce organized an informative and interactive GST (Goods and Services Tax) Workshop. The total count of 585 learners who registered and attended the workshop. The event aimed at providing students with a comprehensive understanding of GST and its impact on various aspects of business and the economy. The workshop was held in conjunction with the ICSI seminar, adding depth to the academic experience for the students.The primary focus of the GST workshop was to make the learning process engaging, fun, and interactive. To achieve this, the event incorporated various activities, including games, chart presentations, and the creation of placards by the students to explain key concepts of GST. These activities were designed to encourage active participation and make the learning process more enjoyable and practical. 


Quiz on the occasion of International Girl Child day

Date: 11th October 2024

No. of Students :  74 Students

On the occasion of International Girl Child Day, an online quiz was organized under the theme "Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao" to raise awareness about the importance of education and empowerment of girls. The event took place on 11th October 2024 and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students.  A total of 74 students took part in the quiz, showcasing their knowledge on topics related to women empowerment, gender equality, female education, and significant women achievers. The quiz was designed to encourage students to understand the challenges faced by girls and the role of education in overcoming them. The quiz comprised multiple-choice questions making it an engaging and informative event. The event successfully spread awareness among students about the importance of educating and supporting girls. 

Industrial Excursion Visit (IV):

No. of Students:  45

TYBAF students went to a 10 day from 3rd December 2024 to 12th December 2024 I.V. trip where they visited Kullu shawl factory, Chandigarh. They learned about process, manufacturing, costing, process costing, logistics, marketing etc. The trip provided valuable opportunities to engage with industry professionals, explore potential collaborations, and enhance educational and professional development. 



Bhasha Divas 

Date: 9th December 2024

Students Participated: 210 students

In order to promote and to make learners aware of importance of our Indian languages, to understand it’s vital role in our tradition & culture; BAF department conducted an activity wherein 14 stalls were put up for different languages (Sanskrit, Kannada, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Assamese, Nepali, Konkani, Kashmiri, Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali, Oddissi, Malayalam). Learners who visited these stall got familiar with importance of different languages, it’s origin, number of people who speak that particular language. 210 students participated in this activity.

The Department of BAF conducted an online Dance Competition on the theme “ National Integration”. Total Number of students is toparticipated were 19 .The Competition was held on 24th December 2024 . The students were told to send the dance video via mail.

Tree Plantation

Date: 8th January 2025

BAF Department conducted a Tree Plantation drive with first, second, and third-year BAF students. The drive was carried out on 8th January, 2025. All the participating students reported to the college campus at 9:00 AM with great enthusiasm and then proceeded towards Green Hills, Rambagh Lokhandwala Twp, Kandivali (E). The initial day was consumed by the primary stage of the tree plantation activity, which was cleaning and digging the spaces where plants were supposed to be planted; it required a lot of patience, hard work, and dedication. Later, plantation and cleanliness was done . Every member present there made extreme efforts . There were a total of 43 students present to make this drive successful. 40 saplings were planted.

Workshop On Life-Saving Techniques 

Date : 9th January 2025

The workshop conducted by BAF Department in collaboration with  the American Heart Association (AHA) - Mr Jerin Jose, Ms. Smriti Gawas and Mr. Arun Gawas - The Instructors and Innerwheel Club Of Bombay, Kandivali - Mrs. Nusrat Khatri, Mrs. Jyoti Gandhi - The Past Presidents and Mrs. Sunita Bhadada - The Current President. It was an enlightening experience that went far beyond conventional classroom learning.  Unlike regular seminars, this session taught us skills of upmost importance, the techniques that could potentially save our lives. The focus of the session was on CPR(Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), abdominal thrusts, and other vital life-saving techniques. The session began with an introduction to the importance of CPR and an explanation of what cardiac arrest is. The instructors shared insights on how to identify cardiac arrest, assess a victim’s condition, and respond effectively. Students learned practical steps to help someone who is unresponsive or choking, which could make a difference in critical situations. This session was attended by 206  learners. It was a blend of knowledge, practical learning, and compassion, leaving each student equipped with skills to act in emergencies

SUMMIT 25- TCSC BAF  MUN (Model United Nation)

On 5th February, 2025 the Department of BAF conducted SUMMIT 25- TCSC BAF  MUN (Model United Nation) event. 18 students registered for the event. Dr. Sharad Pasle was the judge for the competition. He is an assistant professor (chemistry) at Thakur College of science and commerce. The participants were allocated countries for which they were to act as Delegates. The agenda topic was “Global Migration (Opportunities and challenges)”. Participants as delegates came up with various solutions for the issue as well as asked cross questions to each other. A special round was held in which the participants were given 10 minutes to draft resolutions/petitions on the agenda topic. Participants learnt about diplomatic relations, challenging perspectives and negotiating skills. The best speaking teams were:

Union Budget 2025

Date of the Event:-  5th February, 2025.

On 5th February, 2025 the Department of BAF conducted Union Budget presentation competition. 17 students registered for the event. The task was to be as the Finance Minister of the country and come up with a Budget. As The Finance Minister participants made various allotments of capital in the vast sectors of the country. Finally after compiling everything they had to submit it in the given excel sheet. On the day of the event. They were given time to present their budget and answer the questions asked by the judge on the basis of their presentation. Participants learnt about Fiscal deficit management, Social welfare programs of the country and Financial Management skills.

On 12th February 2025, a guest lecture was organized by Department of BAF & Department of BC in collaboration with the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) to educate students about Company Secretary (CS) as a career option and to apprise the students with the Significance of the Company Secretary as a Career and the different phases of the CS course including the various practical training involved therein.. The session was conducted by Mrs. Vimala Jogadia, Senior Executive Assistant, ICSI-WIRC, who provided in-depth knowledge about the significance, process, and various exams related to the CS profession.Mrs. Jogadia elaborated on the roles and responsibilities of a Company Secretary, highlighting the importance of corporate governance, compliance, and legal advisory in business organizations. She also explained the CS course structure, covering the CSEET (entry-level test), Executive, and Professional programs, along with eligibility criteria and exam patterns. The session was highly informative and interactive, as students engaged in Q&A discussions to clarify their doubts regarding career prospects, job opportunities, and skill development in the field of Company Secretaryship. The event concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging Mrs. Jogadia and ICSI for their valuable insights. The lecture was a great learning experience for students aspiring to build a career in the corporate and legal sectors.



Swachhata Hi Seva

Objective: Youth Awareness & Cleanliness Promotion

As part of the “Swachhata Hi Seva” initiative, an awareness was given to BAF Students on promotion the ‘Swachhata MOHUA App’, encouraging students to contribute towards cleanliness and responsible citizenship. Instilling a sense of hygiene, sustainability, and environmental responsibility among students. Students were guided to install the Swachhata MOHUA App on their mobile phones. The app allows users to report unclean areas and contribute to maintaining cleanliness in public spaces. Through this initiative, students were motivated to actively participate in cleanliness drives and promote hygiene practices in their surroundings. This initiative is based on Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development youth awareness programme. The students were also instructed to  ensure that classrooms are clean & lights are switched off before leaving for the day. This activity was conducted throughout the year.

The evening commenced with enthusiastic addresses, setting a celebratory tone. A highlight was the uproarious dance and drama, a witty spoof of the FIFO 2k25 batch. This humorous portrayal of their college life, filled with inside jokes and relatable moments, evoked waves of laughter and nostalgia, underscoring the strong bonds forged over their years together.
The stage then transformed into a runway for a glamorous fashion show. Students showcased their individual styles and creativity, reflecting the diverse and contemporary spirit of the graduating class. This visual treat highlighted their confidence and flair as they prepared to step into the world.
Adding a musical dimension to the farewell was a captivating band performance. Their diverse repertoire had the audience tapping their feet and singing along, fostering a sense of unity and shared enjoyment. This interlude provided a lively backdrop to the evening's festivities.
A significant part of the event was the Cultural Awards ceremony, recognizing students for their outstanding contributions beyond academics. Awards in various categories celebrated their talents in areas like music, dance, and drama, emphasizing the college's commitment to holistic development. This acknowledgment of their hard work and dedication added a layer of meaningful recognition to the farewell.
The atmosphere throughout the evening was a blend of excitement and sentimentality. The graduating students cherished their final moments on campus, reminiscing and celebrating their achievements. Faculty members offered heartfelt wishes for their future endeavors.
