Department of Commerce (Accounting & Finance) - Activities & Events in 2020-21

The academic year 2020 - 21 has been a quite uplifting year for the department of Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) not only in academics but also in extra – curricular activities. This can be attributed to the dedication and team spirit of students, staff of BAF Department. 

Digital Marketing – Boon for Indian Economy 

The BAF Department along with IQAC Department in association with Indian Economic Association organized an International Webinar on “Digital Marketing – Boon for Indian Economy on 5th August 2020. The webinar was streaming live on Youtube as well as Facebook.  

Empowering Educators 

The Department of BAF of Thakur College of Science and Commerce along with the department of IQAC organized an international webinar on “Empowering Educators” which was held on 10th September 2020. The webinar conducted was streaming live on Youtube.  

GUIDANCE LECTURES BY BAF ALUMNI AND OTHER INDUSTRIAL EXPERT

ACCA

The speaker for the smile lecture on 3rd October 2020 was Ms Madhu Ramasamy. She is currently pursuing BAF from our college and is in third year. Other than BAF she is also doing another course i.e ACCA. Madhu spoke about how one can manage both college studies and at the same time also pursues another course side by side. 








Outcome :- The students learnt the importance of ACCA and also what levels one needs to clear for the course. 

CFP, CFA, CA and MBA 

On 4th October, 2020 Mr. Animesh Chaudhary an Alumni of TCSC - BAF shared his knowledge and experience about CFA, CFP, CA and MBA. He also spoke about the Test Preparation for Indian and foreign Institutes. 






Outcome :- The students got an idea how they can prepare for tests if they want to get admission in foreign institutes. The session also helped the students to choose amongst different courses in which they were confused. 

Interview Process  

On 12th October, 2020 Mr. Anish Modi who is an alumni of TCSC – BAF explained the students about the interview and also gave a gist on how interviews are conducted.  

Outcome :- The session highlighted the importance of interview and also the students got a deeper knowledge of how interviews are conducted and what type of questions are asked.  


WORKSHOPS

Goods and services tax awareness campaign

This workshop was conducted on 24th October, 2020. The main aim of this workshop was to enlighten all the students, teaching staff as well as non-teaching staff of Thakur College of Science and Commerce. The students shared the knowledge about the GST to various stakeholders along with its implications as it is the biggest tax reform system in India. The stream was divided into 5 main streams: Introduction, Rates, Registration, Input Tax credit, & Conclusion. Everyone appreciated the efforts taken up by the department of Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Finance) and it was proposed to keep such workshop in future also. The workshop was conducted on Zoom. Total number of students present were 136 out of which 52 were boys and 84 were girls. 

 

Outcome :- The students learnt how the Goods and Services Tax system i.e the GST works in India and how one can file GST and what is the procedure required.

Blog and Bulletin  

The speaker for BAF Smile session on 21st November, 2020 was Ms. Shreya Isher. She is currently pursuing BAF and is in Third year. Shreya explained the importance of literature and writings and how one can express through writing. She explained in detail about the departmental blog as well.   

Outcome :- The students felt motivated in regards to content writing and also learnt how the departmental blog works and how it is managed by the entire team. 


MantraHealth and Hygiene

Bachelors in Accounting and Finance Department (BAF) organized “MANTRA” on 23rd November, 2020. It has been successfully organized by the BAF department since last 10 years, Mantra has always had a record for introducing interesting topics like CEO meet, Cybersecurity,  mental health,etc. This year the session was conducted on the topic related to the current scenario “Health and Hygiene”. The speaker for the session were Mrs. Nushrat Khatri and Dr. Sakshi Jain and was conducted on Zoom as well as streaming live on Youtube. Total number of students present were 184 out of which 88 were boys and 96 were girls. 

     

Outcome :- The students were made to realize the importance of saving trees and planting more trees and also brought to higlight the importance of health especially during the time of the ongoing pandemic.  

Student Review :- The session was interactive and both the day’s were looked forward to, the students learnt a lot about their health and environment as well. 

I – UN 2020

The Department of BAF of Thakur College of Science and Commerce on 28th November 2020 organized I – UN 2020. The students represented different nations and put forth their views as on what measures would they take to control the pandemic and how would they handle the situation if they were in pkace of the higher authorities. Total number of students participated were 51 out of which 24 were boys and 27 were girls.  

 

Outcome :- The students used their creative ideas and came up with many solutions to tackle the crisis of the ongoing Covid-19.  

Student Review :- We learnt how different countries are tacking this pandemic and also got an opportunity to express our views on the same.

Stock Analysis and IPO

On 28th November, 2020 Mr. Kamaldeep Bansal who is currently pursuing BAF and is in the Third year gave a gist about what is IPO, the importance of IPO and why do companies come up with IPO.  

Outcome :- The speaker highlighted the meaning of IPO and also the doubts of the students were cleared which they had regarding stock market and IPO.

CS

On 1st December, 2020 Ms. Simran Pathre whi is currently in TYBAF spoke about CS. She spoke about the importance of CS and how one can make it a career option in their future.

  

Outcome :- The students got a gist of what Company Secretary is all about and how one can clear it, also how other courses become an advantage in the future was highlighted in the session.

MUN – 2020 

The Department of BAF organized MUN – 2020 on 5th December 2020. The objective of the event was to make the students understand how different countries are tackling covid-19. The event was held online. Total number of students participated were 10 out of which 4 were boys and 6 were girls. 

 

Outcome :- The students used their creative ideas and came up with many solutions to tackle the crisis of the ongoing Covid-19. 

Student Review :- We learnt how different countries are tacking this pandemic and also got an opportunity to express our views on the same.  

GUIDANCE LECTURES BY BAF ALUMNI AND OTHER INDUSTRIAL EXPERT

Importance of Soft Skills

The speaker for BAF Smile session on 26th December, 2020 was Ms. Divya Upadhyay, an alumni of TCSC – BAF. She spoke about soft skills and how one can groom themselves using soft skills in day – to – day life. She also explained how one can build their personality. 

Outcome :- The students were given an idea of how the corporate life works and how one needs to inculcate soft skills within themselves, which not only help in the work culture but also help in all stages of life.

JASHN 2k20

Department of Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) organized a sumptuous fresher’s party for the batch of 2020 – 21 on 27TH December, 2020. Jashn 2020 was one of the most exciting and memorable experience for all the freshers who would cherish this lifelong. The freshers day was filled with happiness, joy, energy, excitement, laughter and enthusiastic performances. The party was streaming live on Youtube.

 

Outcome :- The students showcased their different talents like dancing, singing, painting and many more. The students also got to know their seniors and more about the different activities conducted by the department.

Marketing skills  

The speaker for the BAF Smile session on 23rd January was Mrs. Meghavi Rajguru, an alumni of TCSC BAF. Mrs. Meghavi is from E-commerce background, also she has knowledge of Graphics designing and Marketing. She is  currently working in Accenture company as an E-commerce Analyst. Mrs. Meghavi explained the concept of marketing and also different types of marketing.  






 


Outcome :- The speaker taught about different forms of marketing and how the marketing industry works. The students also learnt about strategies that can be used for marketing. 

Student Review :- The session was very interactive and informative and the session was a huge success.  

National Voter’s Day  

The Department of BAF of Thakur College of Science & Commerce took an initiative of spreading awareness amongst students regarding their rights and also fundamental duties as a citizen. The event was conducted on 25th January 2021 to mark Voter’s Day and make students aware about the importance of voting. The event was conducted on Zoom. The speaker for the session was Mr. Krishna Chauhan Who is an advocate.    

Outcome  :- The students were made to realize their fundamental rights as well as duties and also how voting is very important and that every citizen should vote.

Saving and Investing

The Department of Bachelors in Accounts and Finance (BAF) organized the BAF Smile session this week on 6th February, 2021. The session for this week was different from other sessions as the speaker was not an alumni of BAF. The speaker was Mrs. Nidhi Kothari who is a Chartered Accountant (CA). The event was conducted to inculcate the habits of investing and also teach the importance of saving to students in today’s times.  

Outcome :- The students realized the importance of saving and also how vital is investing. The students were also given some examples of investing like mutual funds, stocks etc. 

Other Professional Courses

On 20th  February, 2021 a BAF Smile session was conducted on different courses. The speaker for the session was one of the alumni of our college Mrs. Dhara Kansara. She is an Inter CA from ICAI, as well as a Visiting Faculty at LS Raheja College and KES College and Department Co-ordinator for BAF and Faculty at TRCAC. The event was conducted to make the students aware about different courses like CA, CS, CFA, ACCA and many more. The students were explained the importance of these courses and how once plan to accommodate their time to their studies as well as different courses.  

Outcome :- Different courses like CS, CFA, ACCA and many more were discussed and their importance in today’s world was explained briefly. 

Student Review :- Mrs. Dhara Kansara is a great speaker. Overall session was very helpful and got to know information about the course and the session was really appreciable.

Entrepreneurship skills

On 27th February, the BAF Smile team of BAF Department conducted a session on entrepreneurship and how one can start their own business. The speaker for the session was one of the alumni of our college. Mrs. Shree Nair. Mrs. Shree Nair is a corporate trainer certified from NABET (National Accreditation Board for Education and Training) and SQA (Software quality assurance). The session was conducted on Zoom with a total of 50 students present. Mrs. Shree Nair spoke to students on how one can start their own business or start-ups and how important it is for a women to be independent and set an example for other women’s.  









Outcome :- The students were taught about start-ups and what all things one needs to keep in mind before starting a business. Also how important it is for women’s to be independent was highlighted during the session.

Motivation for other courses 

On 6th March, 2021 a session was conducted on zoom platform. The speaker was alumni of Thakur College Mr. Vishal Vishwakarma. The speaker motivated the students to take up courses according to their interest and don’t come under any pressure. He also shared his experience and memories of his college days. 

     

Outcome :- The students learnt the importance of other courses in the practical world and also doubts of the students were cleared by the speaker during the session.

International Women’s Day 

The Department of Accounting and Finance conducted an event to celebrate this auspicious day by inviting the alumni’s of BAF who have made a mark in the international world. The event was conducted on zoom and was also live on YouTube with a total of 80 students present. The speakers for the session were Ms. Komal Parekh who has an experience in finance and education and is currently working in communication team and conducting workshops in Canada, Ms. Vidhi Goti who is a business analyst and is also an expert in Python, Bloomberg, MS Excel and many more, Ms. Karishma Salvi who has worked as a senior analyst in Tata Consultancy services and is also a financial analyst along with an equity market analyst and Ms. Janvi Mehta who is known for entrepreneurial skills and is also a freelancer. All the speakers share their experience and their success story. The event was conducted to honor the alumni’s especially women’s on this special day. 

 

 

Outcome :- The students got to interact with the alumni’s of BAF Department who have made a mark not only in India but also in the International world. The speakers also shared their struggles and how they handled everything to make a mark at global level.  

National Integration Day 

The Department of BAF of Thakur College of Science and Commerce conducted a dance competition on the occasion of National Integration Day on 15th March 2021. Students were supposed to prepare a short dance video of 1 minute of different states and mail it to the concerned authorities. The judge for the event was Ms. Janvi Mehta who is known for entrepreneurial skills and is also a freelancer. Around 20 students participated in the event that was conducted on Zoom. 


 Summit’ 2021 

The BAF department of Thakur College of Science and Commerce has been Summit from the past 5 Years. This Year Summit 2k21 was conducted on 20th March2021, 27th April 2021 and 31st March, 2021. The total number of students who participated for the event were 8 out of which 5 were boys and 3 were girls. 

Day 1

On 20th March 2021, which was also the first week of Summit the students had planned to organize Union Budget where the point of discussion was the budget. Around 30 students participated in the event which was conducted on Zoom and was also live on Youtube.  The event started by welcoming students, faculty member and the judges who were Mrs. Rakhi Bhattacharya & Mrs. Aparna Deshmukh. The event was conducted to make the students understand the concept of Union Budget and also make a proposed budget according to their wish.   

Day 2

  In second week that is on 27th March 2021, the main highlight of the event was State Budget. The event saw a participation of more than 25 students which was conducted on Zoom as well as live on YouTube. The students were explained about the state budget in detail and also got an opportunity to become a Chief Minister for the day.  

Day 3

The third and the last week of summit was held on 31st March, 2021. The point of discussion for the third week was Gender issues faced by different countries. The event was conducted on Zoom and was also streaming live on Youtube. Around 30 students participated in the event to put forth their opinions on issues faced by women not only in work place but also in the society. The event started with the introduction of the judge’s for the event who were Mrs. Manju Singhania who is an assistant professor in Thakur College of Science and Commerce & Mrs. Reshma Desai who has been teachers IT for the last 15 years. The students very nicely debated on the given topic and also came up with different solutions as how one can tackle the problem of gender issues. 

  

Outcome :- The students were taught about Budget in detail and were also made to understand how state budget is proposed. The students also prepared their own budget and presented it in front of the judges. The students also debated on Gender issues faced by different countries and how they would tackle it if they were in place of the higher authorities.  

Student Review :- We learnt how the budget is presented and also how different ministries play an important role in the formation of the budget.
