Department of Commerce (Banking & Insurance) - Activities & Events in 2023-24



  1. Ecological Restoration 

The Department of Banking and Insurance teamed up with the Junior College and the Department of Environmental Science and Education (EVE) to organize an event called "ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION” on 22nd June, 2023. The goal was to help students better understand what's happening with the environment today.

During the event, students took part in different activities, talks, and discussions to learn about ecological issues and why it's important to take care of our environment. By bringing together experts from different fields like banking, education, and environmental science, the event aimed to give students a well-rounded view of these issues and encourage them to take action for a healthier planet.

In summary, "ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION" was all about raising awareness and getting students excited about protecting the environment for the future.

  1. National Insurance Awareness Day

Department of Banking and Insurance organized National Insurance Awareness Day on 21st, July 2023. This event was organized to make understand the importance and spread awareness about insurance and its benefits in our daily life. There were 2 events in total. Both sub events had a winning criteria. The events are as follows:-

Know What You Say: Participants were given an insurance based situation wherein they had to come up with a solution for the same within a specific time period. 

Flowing Knowledge: Participants were given a particular amount and they had to allocate and invest that amount in different types of insurance. The one with maximum amount saved was considered winner.

  1. International Year Of Millets 

Department of Banking and Insurance and Financial Markets and B. Com Investment Management organized INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF MILLETS on 15th July, 2023. This event was organized to make understand the importance and spread awareness about MILLETS we eat in and what changes are required to do in daily life. We spread awareness regarding the same as well did millet designing where the participants designed through the millets.

  1. Banking Nationalization Day

Department of Banking and Insurance organized BANKING NATIONALIZATION DAY on 18th and 19th July i.e., 2 DAY INTERCOLLEGIATE LEVEL EVENT. This was the 9th year we celebrated this event. CLs MEET (Contingent Leader’s Meet) was organized where all the representatives of different colleges in Mumbai were invited via Zoom Platform to make them understand about the event flow and rules and regulations of the same. The participants were provided a hardcopy of the Certificate. There were 5 events in total and it had winning criteria where the winners were provided a winning certificate.

  • Inauguration and Model Making: The Inaugural of the event was done by respected Vice-Principal of Degree Commerce, Dr. Nishikant Jha and respected Dean Academics Commerce, Dr. Parul Singhal at 11 am followed by the 1st event, Model Making.

  • Quizz: Quiz was conducted to test the knowledge about Banking Nationalisation and its norms. Banking related questions were asked in MCQ format in team of 2.

  • Welcome To My Bank: Every contingent was given a bank name. The participants had to pitch it to the audience as for why their bank is the best among the rest.

  • Expose The Scammer: The participants had to prepare themselves with a real life financial scam. Participants have to understand and explain as to who were the scammers and measures incase of frauds.

  • Elegant Service: The participants were given the role of a banker wherein the organising team were the customers and asked the bankers, queries related to Banking Services. 

  • Treasure Hunt: A game in which players had to search for hidden objects by following a trail of clues.

Department of Banking and Insurance organized a seminar on the Career Opportunities in Banking and Insurance sectors and in the competitive exams field providing them with an insight. 


  1. Visit to BSE

Department of Banking and Insurance has organized a field visit to BSE – Bombay Stock Exchange on 31st July 2023. The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) is the first and largest securities market in India and was established in 1875 as the Native Share and 

Stock Brokers’ Association.

Based in Mumbai, India, the BSE lists over 5,300 companies and is 

one of the largest exchanges in the world. To understand how Bombay Stock Exchange promotes and inculcates honourable and just practices of trade in 

securities transactions, and discourages malpractices.

  1. G20 Summit

Department of Banking and Insurance organized G20 SUMMIT Group Discussion Competition on 5th August 2023. To allow students and participants to understand the spirit and gist of G20 SUMMIT, by creating a similar environment of group discussion, debate and presentation. 

The topic 'Sustainability - Climate & Energy' emphasizes on crucial current affair faced by everyone. 

The discussions centered around critical challenges related to climate change, sustainability, energy security, equitable energy access and financing, in the context of global energy transitions. 

Participants researching on the topic allows them to understand it on a deeper level and gain another sense of understanding for the same.

Department of Banking and Insurance organised BANKING CONCLAVE on 26th August 2022; an INTERCOLLEGIATE LEVEL EVENT.

Mr. Harshil Shah is a qualified Chartered Accountancy in the year 2006, and currently is running his own partnership firm as well handling clients who are spread across the country.

Ms. Deepti M G isa trainee in BSFI sector offering with over 21 years of experience in the Banking sector with a strong footprint in Operations and Management roles and also providing training to BSFI sector aspirants.

Department of Banking and Insurance conducted a Rakhi making competition on 28th of August. It is a festival which is a symbol of love of brother and sister. The purpose of this competition is to provide a better understanding of our culture.

  1.  RBI Visit

The department of Banking and Insurance organised a field visit to RBI for their First Year students on 6th September 2023. They students learned and gained insight about the workings of RBI, as well as, the examinations conducted by the RBI. To understand how Reserve Bank of India uses monetary policy to create financial stability in India, and it is charged with regulating the country's currency and credit systems.

To know about the examination procedure and career opportunities in RBI.

12)Career Opportunities in Banking Sector 

The department of Banking and Insurance department conducted a seminar on the Career Opportunities that are present in the Banking sector on 12th September, 2023. This event was organized to make students understand the importance and spread awareness about the Banking Sector.

To assists in developing study habits, for selecting curricular/co-curricular activities, and also helps in knowing about the availability of scholarships, spread awareness about importance of banking exams, help in career planning.

13) Guest Lecture on Mutual Funds

Department of Banking and Insurance had organized a Guest Lecture on 4th October, 2023 on the topic of Mutual Funds and its investments. The seminar shared light and insights upon the various types of Mutual Funds investments available in the securities market helping the students gain knowledge and open investment opportunities.

  1. Vigilance Awareness Week

Department Of B.com (Banking and Insurance) Organized Vigilance Awareness Week from 30th to 3rd Nov to Promote the Importance of Integrity, Transparency, And Accountability in Both Public and Private Sectors. It Aimed to Raise Awareness About the Ill Effects of Corruption While Encouraging Ethical Behaviour and Responsible Citizenship. This observance fostered a Culture of Vigilance and Emphasized The role of Individuals in Preventing Corruption for The Overall Betterment of Society.


  • Debate: Each participate get 3 minutes to speak on the topic. Participants need to speak in English language. No foul language. Participant will be judged on vocabulary and content of their topic.

16)Bhasha Diwas 

The department of Banking and Insurance/bfm/bim organised the event ”Fashion Show” under Bhasha Diwas on 13th December, 2023.To help promote the different languages and cultures of our cultural vast and diverse country, in order to inculcate the feelings of acceptance and equality among the students.

17) Be A Banker 

The department of Banking and Insurance organized their annual inter-collegiate departmental fest BAB – Be A Banker for 3 days on 11th, 12th and 13th January, 2024. The fest included students of TCSC participating, as well as, other colleges of Mumbai and states like Gujarat, etc. 

This year the THEME for B.A.B’24 was ‘VASUDHAIVA KUTUMBAKAM’. There were 1526 participants. This year B.A.B’24 was the 11th Edition. 

The theme itself reflects the world is one family, one earth and one future. The following events were conducted. 

There were 5 categories for events that were conducted: - 

Sports- Turf Cricket, Turf Football, Badminton. E-Gaming Events -Carrom, Chess, BGMI. Formal Events – Quiz, Scam Shield, Pitch Perfect, Pictionary, embrace your voice, and Know Your Contingent. 

Informal Events – Treasure Trail, Beg Borrow Steal, Minute to win it, Wall of Dares, G20 Charades, Whisper Down The Lane.

20)  Gandhi Martyr’s Day

The department of Banking and Insurance held a Film screening   and Review on “Who Killed Gandhi” on 30th January, 2024 on Gandhi’s  death anniversary, providing information and various aspects of the death that occurred on the respective day via watching a documentary to help understand the concept better.


21) Overseas Education Seminar

The department of Banking and Insurance held a guest lecture and seminar on the topic of Education Abroad on 1st February, 2024. The seminar discussed topics like the stigma around education abroad, the process for application, necessary skillset and how the students can choose the right college for themselves and work towards their goals, this seminar helped provide the students with a wider insight towards their higher education goals, career plans, etc.

22) Career Guidance Lecture

The department of Banking and Insurance held a guest lecture and seminar on the topic of Career Guidance on 1st February, 2024. The seminar discussed topics like required skillset, importance of soft skills, various types of departments and the different forms of level of work the students and graduates can expect and work towards their goals, this seminar helped provide the students with a wider insight towards their goals, corporate plans, etc.

23) Go Cheese Factory Visit 

The Department of Banking and Insurance organised a one-day Industrial Visit to GoCheese on 3rd February, 2024 in Pune for First Year, Second Year and Third Year students to help them understand the process involved in producing dairy products, such as milk, cheese, etc. 

They gained insights about the work ethic and the efforts behind making the products they enjoy eating, helping them gain a new perspective on the products they consume and how they are prepared.

   24) Banking Premier League (BPL)

The department of Banking and Insurance held the Banking Premier League (BPL) on 22nd February, 2024. To help teach the students about the spirit of entrepreneurship as they build a banking start-up company of their own. 

Understanding the process of forming a banking institution and how they function as to the post of the member of the team. Developing the services and products of the bank and insurance company and learning about how to manage these functions as a new bank. 

The students had to pitch their banking and insurance products to the public and had to sell their services, they made application forms and prepared a sales pitch as to how they would approach the customers.

25) Soft Skills Workshop 

The Department of Banking and Insurance organised a Soft Skills workshop on 28th February, 2024, for their students to help improve their soft skills and understand its implementation when they go into the corporate and how they can use these skills to their added benefit. 

Realising the market demand for new-age graduates and fresher corporate employees with the added benefits of Soft Skills will help the students become a better and more attractive candidates as compared to their competitors. 

This workshop focused on enhancing and polishing these skills and helped students gain confidence as to how to approach work-life scenarios and tackle those situations with the help of these skills.

26) Physical & Mental Health Workshop

The department of Banking and Insurance organized a health workshop for their students on

 29th February and 1st March, 2024 to help create awareness and promote the importance of physical fitness and the impact of it on the individual and also the importance of mental health and the maintenance and achievement of it.

27) International Banking Fraud Awareness 

The department of Banking and Insurance organized International Banking Fraud Awareness on 7th March, 2024 to create awareness about cyber fraud attacks and to promote safe banking habits. In this workshop, learners were made aware of a wide range of topics like the modus operandi of cyber fraudsters, the process of detecting & reporting unauthorized transactions, etc.
