Department of Commerce (Financial Markets) - Activities & Events in 2021-22

BFM Department intends to promote a balanced skilled set, with intrigued ability to make the learners to understand better investment trends, financial market mechanisms and investor behavioural patterns that shape the decision-making and performance of our economy in generally. The Department has a regular student publication “The Finacle: Beyond Bulls and Bears” which enables the budding writers to put forward their opinion on matters concerning the world of Finance. 

This year we kickstarted our activities by conducting a one week National Level FDP on the topic Investor Awareness on Stock Market, from 5h July 2021 to 11th July 2021. The FDP has been aptly titled “Investor Awareness of Stock Market” which aimed to enrich the participants about the world of Securities Market, Stocks Exchanges, IPOs, Mutual Fund Investing and its modern trends. This event was arranged by Department of B.Com. Financial Markets and Banking & Insurance with IQAC.140 participants were benefited by the programme. 

One day webinar on National integration was organised by the Department of B.Com (FM,B&I and IM) on 15th July 2021.Speaker day, Cllr.Niall Mc Nelis, Ex Mayor Galaway city Council Ireland addressed 139 learners and spoke about United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and importance of Collaborating and giving back to the community. 

A webinar on the topic Value Education was organised on 5th August 2021 to inculcate ethical values among the learners. Ms. Mamta Pandya, Entrepreneur & Art of Living taught the learners how to follow the route of ethics as ethical leadership is essential for the long-term success.87 learners benefitted from the session.  

One day webinar on Artificial Intelligence was organised by the Department of B.Com (FM - BFM) on 7th September 2021. Speaker, Zaheer Abbas Sayed, Director – Financial Education Institute, spoke about Artificial Intelligence in Financial Markets. He addressed165 curious learners and spoke about the latest technology being used and how the learners can equip themselves and be competitive by learning the different computer language and programs.

Guest Lecture was arranged on Art of Communicating to Connect which was conducted by 

Ms. Amreen Luthra (Founder & CEO, corporate trainer, life coach and a public speaker)  on 6th October 2021. Ms Amreen shared some beautiful tips on how to "communicate to connect, how to improve communication skills and build confidence and more about networking. Number of participants attended this online lecture was160.

Webinar on GLOBAL MINDSET was organised by the Department of B.Com (FM - BFM) on 29th September 2021. Mr. Jay Shah & Ms. Moumitha C. Chokkalingam ,Alumni, BFM spoke how the learners should develop the GLOBAL MINDSET THROUGH BFM – Need of the hour. They counselled70 learners about the various post graduate study opportunites available in India as well as outside the country.

Guest lecture series on Financial planning & Asset allocation Techniques was conducted on  22nd and 24th November 2021 by Mr.Aman Pal Singh Chawla ,the founder of Advisor Zarrori Hai and Nidhi Mehta, a Certified financial planner. The session explained the importance of finance, various investment options and why proper planning is one of the most crucial decision which need to be started very early for a successful future. 61 learners attended the first session and the number of participants in the second session was 60.

Guest lecture on Mutual fund Investments was conducted on 27th November 2021.The speaker for the session was Mr. Abhishek Samal , Wealth Manager at Value Nest Technologies  Pvt ltd. . This session gave great insights to 131 learners on long-term investment planning and the precautions of entering such a high-risk market. 

On 22nd December 2022, the most awaited competition of the BFM department took place, the MOCKSTOCK. Through mockstock  18 participants got insights of how to play in real markets through virtual trading, how we can diversify our portfolio ,how to deal in three different segments namely; Equities, Commodities and currencies. It helped in gaining practical knowledge on how the market actually works. 

On 23rd February 2022, a guest lecture was organised by the department of B.Com 

FINANCIAL MARKETS on “career opportunities in financial markets” . It was conducted by Mr. Aaryendr Rajpurohit Aluni of BFM ( general manager, training and enablement at Netcore solutions).This event turned out to be effectively helpful for most of the students to take the right steps in the direction of career building. Mr. Aaryendr counselled the learners about the various career options available in the field of finance. The interactive session included demystifying the misnomers associated Finance world and clarifying the doubts of the89 learners.

On 24th February 2022, the department of BFM invited Mr. Shubha Vilas Prabhu , a renowned Ted X speaker and an amzing life style coach, to give a lecture on ETHICAL LEADERSHIP. 

Leadership is an important personal skill which everyone should develop ,and carrying out this role ethically is much important. Mr. Prabhu’s lecture was highly motivational and 143 learners got the meaningful insight about how they can be ethical in today’s competitive world.

On 10th and 11th March, 2022 Department held its 6th Annual Intercollegiate Competition 

‘Finstreet’.. 150 Students from different colleges of Mumbai participated in the event. Competition like Mock Stock, Cryptochase, Options &Swaps and Brain teaser was held through both online and offline mode following the social distancing norms. It was an wholesome experience to welcome colleges for offline events after winning the battle of the global pandemic. 

On 7th April 2022, the department of B. Com Financial markets organised an alumini talk on Interview Techniques and Personal Interviews. This session was conducted was our bright Thakur aluminites Mr. Jay Shah and Ms. Sakshi Pandit. It was an insightful session explaining various folds of an interview. 65 learners were glad to receive some wonderful tips on how to crack an personal interview which is a part of competitive exams seamlessly.

Teaching at BMC Hindi Medium School, Hanuman Nagar, Kandivali East

Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam once said that “youth has power to bring revolution in any country, and education has power to change narrow perspective of youth.” We at BFM Department of Thakur college of Science & Commerce always nurture our learners, to have a heart with love, compassion and gratitude for fellow humans. We understand the importance of education and as a part of our social activity students of BFM take a noble task of teaching the students of BMC Hindi Medium School,Hanuman Nagar, Kandivali East. This Academic year, we could start our activity once the students started coming back the school after the end of covid related restrictions. We have started this work from the year academic year 2018-19 and will continue in the coming years too
