Department of Commerce (Investment Management) - Activities & Events in 2023-24


  • With the intention of providing an insight to the functioning of debt markets  department of Investment Management organised a workshop titled DEBTINVEST on 14th July 2023  about the details of debt markets – its functioning, roles and regulations to give a value addition to the existing curriculum. This helped increase their understanding of the mutual fund investment. The learners expressed satisfaction and wished to attend more such skill enhancing session. 35 students participated in it.

  • With an objective to imbibe in the BIM learners knowledge about application of Statistical tools in the field of investment and to commemorate the National Statistics Day the Department of Investment Management in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics and Statistics organized a 2-day workshop beginning 28th June 2023. The workshop provided Hands-on Training in the Application of Statistics in Investment Banking using R software to have a practical experience. Around 70 students have registered themselves for the event. It was a successful and enlightening event.

  • With an objective to imbibe the students’ knowledge of Futuristic Technologies, the Department of Investment Management in association with HP organized a 2-day workshop titled TECH-EXPO  from 21st July 2023. The students received hands on experience. Number of participants were 100.

  • With an intent to improve the skills related to understanding and application of law in matters of finance, the department organised an 3 day workshop titled LEGALWARE from 21/6/2023 to 24/06/2023 at room no 509 , 10.30 onwards. The resource person was Assistant professor Jidnyasa Mhatre, who made the program interactive by citing real life examples. The participants were very satisfied with the experience.

  • With an objective to improve the interpersonal communication skills, presentation skills, interview skills, improve English writing and speaking skills an English Communication workshop of 15 hours  was organised by the department in collaboration with the Business Communication department from 1st September to 6th September. Sessions of corporate etiquetes, interview skills were included for the finance students who were to appear for job interviews and internships.

  • Towards building an environment consciousness among the learners The Department of Banking and Finance, Financial Markets and Investment Management on the, organised a documentary film screening event titled GREEN REEL under CARRE on increasing awareness of environmental issues. The students were sensitised about various environmental issues and their delicate global  balance, especially in the Amazon rain forests. The students were also encouraged to adopt environmentally friendly behaviours in their personal and professional lives.

  • With a view to provide a practical exposure of the theories being taught in the lectures an extramural activity in the form of industrial visit was organised to Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) on 14/9/2023. This gave the students an experiential learning opportunity and improved their skills at understanding working of commodity markets, exchanges and trading opportunities. The students were greatly enthused by the experience of learning in the environment of the exchange.

  • With an objective to provide Career Guidance for a bright future in government jobs Department of Business Management in association with Carreer Launcher organised a career guidance workshop on Government jobs counselling for students of BIM on 2nd August 2023.  Entrance exams for  Public Sector  Banking jobs, IBPS examination pattern and other competitive exams were discussed. 80 students participated. Mr Yogendra Chavan from Career Launcher interacted with the students to answer their doubts.

  • With an objective to provide upskill advanced learners The Department of Investment Management organised a Balance Sheet and Ratio Analysis Workshop workshop from 18th-22nd of July  on how to analyse a company’s balance sheets.  The actual balance sheet of the companies in the  IT, Pharma, and banking sectors were extracted and analysed by learners. Subsequently, the companies were ranked. Later based on  the analysis done by the participants marks were awarded. The students were highly motivated and expressed desire to participate in more such future workshops.

  • With an intention to foster an industry academia interaction the Department of Investment Management organized an industry institute connect program in the form of a Panel discussion  named Contrarian on 9th September 2023 at the Seminar Hall of the college. Contrarian, as the name suggests is to question the market trends and the perspective of the people regarding the market. The main aim of the event was to understand and educate audience about various investment avenues and help take a contrary view of the market trends.

  •  The panelists Mr. Rahul Sharma head of Technical & Derivatives of JM Finance Services Ltd, Mr. Vaibhav Shah Fund Manager of Torus Oro PMS, Mr. Bhavin Shah Director of Latin Manharlal Group, Mr. Rachit Shah Associate Partner of Centrum Wealth Management shared their experience and views on the round table and helped the audience have a better understanding of equity markets, debt markets and other alternative investment avenues. 

  • The department along with Criteria VI committee in association with M/s Excellence Global Skills   organised a Financial literacy workshop for students on 22.12.2023 and teaching staff on 27.12.2023. It was done on an online mode and involved activities like concept discussion, live examples and quiz. The event was very well received and provided lot of information about managing personal finance.

  • In line with SEBI, the Department of Investment Management celebrated “World Investor Week” from September 9th to September 15th, 2023. Each day of the week involved online publication of  market insights, offering students valuable information on market trends and investment opportunities. Additionally, the department with association with CASI organized an offline  financial literacy quiz for students and staff , both teaching and non teaching, which allowed students to test and reinforce their knowledge of financial concepts, investments, and risk management. Approximately 80 students actively participated, and their engagement and enthusiasm were key to the program's success. 

  • With an aim to motivate the budding entrepreneurs and underline the contribution of women in the field of entrepreneurship, the  Department organized an women entrepreneur-focused event titled “Antah Prerna - The Motivated “ on 22/12/2023.  The event enthused students especially the girl students to hear about the ground realities and how to overcome them, how to start business and what entrepreneurship can offer and shared insights on resilience and determination in entrepreneurship. Mrs  Jyoti Santosh Angre , CEO , Creative Packing and Mrs Pooja Kalyani, Financial Coach encouraged the students for pursuing entrepreneurship and interacted with them.

  • With a view of providing the learners the benefit of learning from the batchmates the department organised Peer to Peer learning workshop from 12th to 15th March, 2024. FYBIM learners who had been unsuccessful in the SEM 1 results were tutored by those FYBIM students who had excelled in the the same subjects. The workshop was conducted in the classroom with utmost care.. The learners were extremely satisfied with the event and it proved effective in removing their doubts and clearing their concepts.

  • With an objective to imbibe in the students a knowledge on value education and the Direction of youth, the department invited DCP Shri Ajay Kumar Bansal  for the event on Value education: Directions for Youth and advised the students regarding importance of building value and answered questions on varied topics including career opportunities in the police force.  The event was held on 11/7/2023 in the Seminar Hall of the college and attended by 100 students.

  • The department have done two social visits to old age homes (7th September and 11th Jan’24) as part of their SPARSH initiative. Different sets of students were chosen to participate. The permission  received was from VimltiDevi old age home, Gorai which housed senior citizens from different background and are living together. The senior citizens were extremely happy to have met the young generation. They were gifted sweets and each a rose. The students were touched by the interactions and were found interacting with them followed by several songs sung together by the students and the residents.  These visit is specially significant in light of the rising old population and students learning the importance of retirement planning. 

With the view of appraising the student and the teaching community about the changes in market dynamics the department digitally published the daily closing  levels of equity markets (BSE, NSE), commodities (gold and silver), forex markets (USDINR, EURINR) from August to November. The rates were collected and presented through the whatsapp groups of the student community and teaching fraternity.

  • With the youth in mind the Department of Investment Management successfully hosted its flagship event, "Investor Roadmap” on 30th and 31st Jan 2024 The event covered formal events related to finance management, entrepreneurial pitching of ideas, sports, mind games and cultural events. 

  • We believe development of mind is the sowing ground of innovation and understanding. Keeping that in mind the participants from different departments were led through the above diverse sequences .
