Department of Commerce (Management Studies) - Activities & Events in 2020-21


  1. Brandomania 2020

No. of Participants – 600

Brandomania 2020 was held on 30th September, 2020. The event was an exciting inclusion of Multiple Online Activities carried out in 3 Rounds attracting more than 600 Participants from various Colleges across India. . The unique Marketing Quiz concept was all about testing the best minds present via a series of Guessing Games, Logo Quiz, Guess the Tag lines and to Re-Brand, Re-Position a Brand which has either withdrawn from the market or on its exit stage. The Re-Wire Brand should have a new Logo and Brand identity. The participants were tested on their knowledge of Different Brands, Company Logos, Taglines, Identification of Global CEO’s etc. 

The Participants were able to exhibit quick wit and presence of mind while applying and presenting various branding and positioning techniques for their selected generic product.



  1. Careers in MBA – India & Abroad

Number of Participants - 218

He is renowned Career Counsellor, specialising in MBA programs in India & abroad. A free-lancer but associated with most of the prominent colleges in Mumbai.

Outcome - Having industry experience of more than 20 years enlightened  students on various career options available in the area of  Management, the careers and job specification related to every field. He also guided students on How to prepare for a good Entrance Exam score. He guided the students about various opportunities available to the students after graduation in India as well as abroad. And briefed the students about how to crack the GMAT examination & get in to prestigious institutions like ISB , LSE , & other Management Institutions of Europe.




  1. “ One-day institution-level Rural Entrepreneurship Development Cell (REDC)" By MGNCRE

Outcome - A one day workshops for business plan implementation were organized by Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education for the students. Learners of Thakur College participated in workshop and learned the various aspects of managing business through preparation and Implementation of Business Plan through Strengthening the way for Business Plan Competition. This platform helped the budding entrepreneurs to get an in depth view of various aspects of business situation which they will face in real life & how to deal with them with suitable strategy planning, preparation & implementation.

  1. Mind – Breath Infinity

Date – 18th December, 2020

Outcome -  In response to the current worldwide situation calling for social isolation, The Art of living conducted ‘Mind -Breath Infinity’ workshop online so that students can learn our powerful, stress-busting breath-meditation practice right from their home. Few of the points discussed in the session with practical experience where:

1.A calming breathing technique to quiet and relax the mind preparing it for deep meditation

2.A real experience of meditation to effortlessly cut the vicious cycle of thoughts, leaving your mind focused, clear & stress free

3.Secret keys to manage your mind in times of global distress- and how you can use this time to slow down and become more centered

4. The power of connecting to positive, like minded people.

5. An introduction to the Sudarshan Kriya, a life transforming breathing technique taught in the Online Meditation and Breath Program.

  1. Aptipreneur 2020-2021

Date – 09.02.2021

Time – 10.00 am – 11.00 am

Resource Person – Mr.Ketan Malkan (Sr.Vice President, Edelweiss Global Capital)

Outcome – Aptipreneur is a flagship event of the Department. Based on the lines of aptitude test undertaken at management entrance exams like CAT, CMAT, GMAT, SNAP etc. this event attracts students from across states. 

Apti-Test comprises about the verbal & nonverbal reasoning, English language & Quantitative skills required to clear the CAT with high percentile. Personal Interviews and IELTS tests completed the entire management entrance training program. The Chief Guest, Mr. Ketan Malkan, Sr.Vice President- Wealth, Edelweiss Global Capital Ltd.  spoke about the importance of Education to succeed in the Corporate world. He emphasized the need of management practices fundamental training in the industry. 304 participants took the test.

348 learners from various colleges across the country took the Mock CAT and GMAT aptitude test. Students selected from the Apti-test round participated in the Personal Interview Round and IELTS Selection Round.

  1. The Managers’ Conclave 

Date – 09.02.2021

Time – 2.30 pm – 6.00 pm

Resource Person – Mr.Chetan Dodiya, Director, CMK Industries, IIM Ahmedabad


CMK Industries, based in Varanasi – a Logistics management Company agreed to discuss a problem area of their supply chain management with interested participants and gave them an opportunity to deliberate on solutions. This Live Case-Study Analysis was a one of its kind practical training for the participants. 97 Participants from across the country participated. The Director of CMK Inds – Mr.Chetan Dodiya gave an experiential guidance session to the participants teaching them innovative ways to deal with technical crisis situations at work-place.

  1. The Deal Tank - Tycoons are looking for Businesses to Invest, Enter the the Tank & make them part with their Money!

Date – 10.02.2021

Time – 2 pm – 4 pm

Resource Person – Mr.Tarun Makhija, Co-Founder & CEO of Big Mouth Digital & Media, a Branding and Digital Marketing agency

Outcome – Budding Entrepreneurs presented their Business Plan with details like Product Mix, Product Price, Market Feasibility, Financial Feasibility and Technical Feasibility. The concept was to bait the Sharks, interest them in the deal and grab a partnership with them.

Mr.Tarun Makhija spoke about the feasibility strategies that budding entrepreneurs could involve into and grab investors attention. He explained the importance of building an innovative product considering the gaps in the current market scenario.

8.Talentia – A scholarship Test for all MBA Aspirants 

Date - Test Dates - 18th December, 2020 & 26th December, 2020

Test Duration- 30 minutes 

Platform- MCQ on Online mode

The Department in collaboration with Career Launcher initiated a Student Welfare Program, where all students of Thakur College, who were interested to pursue MBA as a career, were invited to give a scholarship test for its training process. This test was taken online by 68 students and 3 students were offered scholarship at Career Launcher for MBA Entrance training program with a fee waiver of around 40%.

9.Changing Business Dynamics: Unique start-ups

Keeping in tune with PM Mr.Narendra Modi initiative towards Start-Up India, a motive to create more wealth-creators, the BMS dept has organised a webinar to express the Changing Business Dynamics in the country. The webinar saw approximately 200 participants for an hour-long discussion & support opportunities for Start-ups in the changed scenario, the sudden shift to ‘work from home’ model, ways in which Start ups could step-up and address COVID-19 in their own personal capacities.



   


10. Collaborative Course with IIM Calcutta 

Date – 12th March onwards

Number of hours – 30 hours

Resource Person – Ms.Priyanka Malhotra (IIM Calcutta)

Fees – Rs.3000/-

The Department collaborated with Make-Intern & E-Cell of IIM Calcutta to launch a Certificate Course in ‘Financial Modeling’ for all College students. This Course involved skill development in Advanced Excel Sheets and multiple fund-raising models to pursue venture funding needed in Entrepreneurial Start-Ups. 32 students participated in the course and got recognition and certification from IIM Calcutta, Learn to Upgrade – Google.

11.  Poster Making & Slog-Writing Competition - On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the BMS Dept wanted to communicate the thoughts & ideologies of Mahatma Gandhiji to the young minds - Non-Violence, Tolerance , Peace & Harmony. Around 20 posters and 14 Slogans were received from the First & Second Year Students.

12.  Gender Sensitisation Week –

Gender Sensitization week was celebrated by Department of Accountancy, Commerce, Management Studies & M.com Ecommerce from 15th March 2021 to 21st March 2021. The main purpose for celebrating this event was to make learners and stakeholders aware and sensitize them about all the Gender.

In gender sensitization we organised 4 events: 

1. Gender Analysis: Gender Statistics of a state- Analysis & Implications.  A research and data analysis based statistical papers were invited from the students on the topic of Gender Analysis, on 15th March 2021. 27 students participated in the event. 

2. Talk Show- Love your self, Be your self 

Resource Person - Dr.Kiran Shandeliya, a psychiatrist and psychotherapist

Date – 17th March, 2021

Time 3 pm onwards

A talk show by Dr.Kiran Shandeliya, a psychiatrist and psychotherapist was organised on 17th March 2021 at 3 pm. 307 students participated and and emphasised on the topic of finding Love and respect for own-self. Topics of Body Shaming, Gender biasness were discussed.


3. Case Presentation – Students were invited to present their opinions and case on the topics like 

1. Men are from MARS & Women are from Venus 

2. Ki & Ka – The Future Couples 

3. Women are progressive leaders 

This Case Presentation Competition held on 18th March 2021 saw a participation of 80 learners. Each presented their opinion on the selected topic that justified the change in the youth’s mindset about Women and treating them equal to Men. Most of them appreciated the multi-tasking roles women play and believed in a equal society.


4. My Support- My Life (Video upload activity) – 19th March 2021

Students were instructed to upload a video of 45seconds for the person who inspired them most stating that when they inspired them and what they achieved. How that person is important for them and why? Total 25 responses were received under this activity.

13. Know your Country – A Patriotic Aptitude Test

Date – 25th March,2021 to 27th March 2021

With a motive to build strong patriotism and brother-hood feeling among the students during these challenging Covid times, the BMS Dept organised a Quiz on the lines of National Integration. Students who gave this quiz were awarded Certificate of Appreciation for being a proud Indian. Approximately 360 students participated in the quiz and labelled themselves as INDIAN

14. Guest Lecture on “MBA Admission Formalities – How to write Statement of Purpose” 

Resource Person – Ms. Richa Chopra (Consultant for Higher Education)

Date – 26th March, 2021

Time – 10 a.m.  onwards

Venue – Zoom Platform

A Guest Lecture was organised for all MBA aspiring TYBMS Learners to train them on a few formalities like ‘State of Purpose’, Documentation needed, Admission Form Filling etc need to be done very carefully in the most lucid language of English for clear communication while filing their MBA forms.


15. Environment Awareness Month

The Second Year Students of BMS took the initiative to create an awareness amongst the youth regarding the environment and as a part of their social responsibility towards the society, celebrated the month of April as “Environment Awareness Month”. Five minute Videos were made by the students about their daily life activities and how a little cautiousness can contribute to a friendly environment. The awareness videos were as follows:

Week 1 – Save Water Campaign

Week 2- Electricity Management

Week 3 – Waste Management 

Week 4 – Save Fuel Consumption

These videos were shown in all BMS classes and students were requested to comply self-regulations to contribute to a sustainable environment
