REPORT OF THE GUEST LECTURE HELD ON 12TH AUGUST, 2021

“The Quintessence of stable mind is combination of EQ, IQ and SQ”. today’s topic for lecture was EPIC FUNDAS: Ancient wisdom For Gen Z Grads. The future of the nation is in the hand of generation Z. They need to be informed about our glorious past and made aware of their responsibility in future. The lecture by Dr Aneeta Madhok Ma’am was an effort to link ancient wisdom with Gen Z sensibilities.

The lecture started with AVATARS who descended in different “ YUGAS ” according to Hinduism. In Hindu mythology yugas are used to delineate the age of time or it can be regarded as a cyclic age in Hindu cosmology. The first yuga was “SATYUG” (Duration – 17,32,000 years) The longest yuga, also called as “THE ERA OF TRUTH AND DEVOTION”. In this age, a commitment was to be honoured with life and one observe the foundation of Sanatan Dharma in this yuga.

The second yuga was “TRETAYUG” (Duration – 12,96,000 years) In this era the hero was LORD RAMA. He is said of be the incarnation of LORD VISHNU. The tale of “RAMAYANA” - a holy epic is revered by every Hindu. There are many versions of RAMAYANA, written by RISHI VALMIKI, TULSIDAS AND LORD HANUMAN too. This yuga shows the purest relationship between family members and also shows the duty a king had for the society.

The third yuga was “DWAPARYUG” (Duration – 8,64,00 years.) In this yuga Dharma meant action which is just and proper. Mahabharata is the epic of this era and a small part of it “THE BHAGWAT GEETA” is revered as a holy scripture and is part of every Hindu household.

The Last yuga is “KALYUG” (In which all our living, Duration – 4,32,000 years the shortest of all) According to some calculations Kalyug started around 3041 BC when Dwapar yuga came to end and after massive destruction in war called Mahabharata. There are many interpretations of word KAL. We are still living in this era.

SAMUDRA MANTHAN

She also mentioned about Samudra Manthan or the churning of the ocean, which was a result of a curse by sage DURVASA. Asuras and Dev’s started the churning of the ocean to obtain amrita which was vied by Gods and demons.

MAHABHARATA CHAKRAVYUH (PADMAVYUHA)

She referred to Mahabharata and the incident of Chakravyuh to make the point that incomplete knowledge or half knowledge is dangerous for one’s survival. She indicated that taking clue from the incident one must collect full information about the subject they are working on.

She mentioned ARTHASHASTRA and the role of Chanakya in making Chandra Gupta, a Vaishya the famous king that he became in life. Chanakya s vision was so great that even to day they are referred to as Chanakya Neeti and are applied in organisation and politics.

Her reference to ancient incidents and drawing wisdom from them and showing us how it can be made relevant even today was a commendable one. We look forward to more such illuminating and thought-provoking lecture in future.
