Department of Commerce (Mass Media) - Activities & Events in 2020-21


B.A. (Multimedia and Mass Communication) under the guidance of IQAC conducted a webinar on the topic ‘Digital Payments for Social Distancing’ on 20th June, 2020. The resource person for the webinar was Mr. Ankur Singh (Manager, Reserve Bank of India). Various systems like NEFT, IMPS, UPI were explained along with various benefits that they entail. Besides that, different policies and mechanisms which protect the consumers and attend to their grievances were also discussed. 



This year, due to the pandemic FY Batch started quite late, but the spirits of the learners were high. An Orientation session for the learners of FY was organized online on 10th September, 2020. Learners were given an overview about what is BAMMC all about and what all activities are conducted by the department throughout the year. In this session, apart from the teachers, prominent alumni were also invited to enlighten the learners about the future prospects after the course. 


Knowledge is something which grows when you share it. ‘The Right Step’ was one such initiative where by the alumni of BAMMC were invited to share their experiences about the industry. The alumni invited were from different areas of the advertising and marketing industry. A series of session were arranged which started on 19th August and concluded on 11th Sep, 2020. The first session was by a budding actor Kunal Sharma who shared his story of struggle with the students, whereas Vaishali Bhardwaj, an entrepreneur guided the students that sometimes failures in life become so pertinent that they become a turning point in your life.. The last session was by advertising agency professional, Manshree Dhar, who guided the students about what they should learn before joining the ad industry. 





The Department organized a ‘Master Class’ on 3rd October 2020 with filmmaker, writer, producer and musician Aditya Kripalani.  Mr. Kriplani has authored three novels: Backseat, Front-seat and Tikli and Laxmi Bomb. His second movie ‘Tottaa Pataaka Item Maal’ was the subject of the Master Class. The idea behind making such movie was to give message to the society that men will only understand the plight of women when they are reciprocated with the same. "The ‘Master Class’ was extremely interactive with the participation of more than 250 students.

Department of BAMMC organized a webinar on 9th January, 2021 on the topic ‘Direction for Films’. The resource person for the webinar was Mr. Raju Subramaniam. He is a Bollywood film Director and known for his work in my movies like Saajan 1991, Zakhmi Dil 1994, Tarazu 1997, Ikke Pe Ikka 1994, Bandhan 1998, Tere Naam 2003 and many more. Mr. Subramaniam started his lecture by sharing his journey in the film industry and many other interesting stories around it. In the last part of the session, Mr. Subramaniam addressed some of the most common questions regarding camera and lighting and how to step into the Industry. 115 students attended the session. 


To enlighten the students about how to identify fake news & real news and what are the current trends in the media industry, a one-day workshop was organized by the Department of BAMMC on 16th January, 2021. The session started with Mr. Shubranshu Chaudhary’s (Founder, CG NET Swara and Former BBC Journalist) talk about how in India some people are still fighting for their basic needs like food, shelter and clothing, but these people hardly get space in the newspapers. The second speaker for the session was Mr. Sushil Bahuguna who is a Senior Editor and an Anchor with NDTV India and also three times Ramnath Goenka Award Winner. He spoke about the challenges faced by the environment journalists and why this beat/area is not preferred by the budding journalists. The last session of the workshop was the most interesting and interactive session, which was presided by Mr. Priyadarshan, Executive Editor, NDTV. He said that in the race of becoming No. 1, the news channels have forgotten about the basic principles of truth and accuracy and fake news is being presented as facts and reality. The session was attended by around 200 people which included students as well as teachers, not just from Mumbai but all over India. 

 



BAMMC in Collaboration with Anti Ragging Cell, TCSC organized a webinar on 25th Feb, 2021 to create awareness among the learners about how to identify bullying. Sakshi Pandit, an alumnus of TCSC and Global Youth Fellow was invited as a guest speaker who motivated the learners by sharing her personal life stories. She said that bullying exists in many forms and there are many people in the society who are bullied by their own friends and family. She motivated the learners to raise their voice against bullying and be confident about their appearance and looks. 






CORTOKINO-UNLEASHING GLOBAL CINEMA - an international short film festival, which is also a flagship event of BAMMC was organized on 26th and 27th March. 8 years back, it was initiated with the idea of bringing together all those dreamers and artists who believe in the language of heart. CortoKino has been a hub for film makers from around the world ever since it's inception. Day 1 of CortoKino which was held on zoom platform on the 26th of March 2021, started with a bang as Mr. Prithvi Zutshi, Bollywood Actor inaugurated the fest. The stunning actress Shilpa Mehta judged the International short film event. Besides films, there were events like, Dance, Minute to Sell it, stand-up comedy, trailer making, cultural wardrobe etc. Dhruvi Shah an upcoming dancer and choreographer was the judge for the dance event- Spinferno. The trailer making event - Reel Revival was judged by Sahil Kholi, Director. The Best National short film was bagged by 'Imdaad' and the Best International short film was won by 'Broken doll'.
