Activities & Events conducted in year 2024-25

ACTIVITIES UNDER CARRE

1. QUIZ COMPETITION: "OUR LAND, OUR FUTURE"

Online Quiz Competition themed "Our land, our future" in commemoration of World Environment Day on June 5, 2024. A total of 142 enthusiastic participants of Thakur College of Science and Commerce took part in the quiz, demonstrating a keen interest in environmental conservation and sustainability. 

2. PARYAVARAN SANRAKSHAN GATIVIDHI PMO QUIZ COMPETITION

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has organized National Students Paryavaran Competition (NSPC) under the aegis of Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi. The objective of this programme is to succeed in creating awareness amongst students to understanding the burning environmental issues. The teachers motivated the students to take the quiz in their respective lecture at 8.15am in the classroom on 13th August 2024. The students could complete the quiz and they received the online participation certification for the same. Total 1656 learners participated in the said event from Science and Commerce faculty. 

3. POSTER MAKING COMPETITION

On August 22, 2024, the Department of Environmental Studies, in collaboration with the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay, Kandivali, organized a Poster Making Competition themed "Conservation of Nature." The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 36 degree college students, who displayed their creativity and commitment to environmental issues through their artwork. The posters were judged by professional artists Mrs. Asmita Dabholkar and Mr. Pradeep Mhaske, who provided valuable feedback on artistic quality and thematic relevance. 4. SUSTAINABLE FASHION WORKSHOP

Department organized 'Sustainable Fashion' event on 13th September 2024, with a focus on transforming waste into art. The objective of the event was to encourage students to creatively utilize discarded materials, promoting sustainability through innovation. A total of 58 participants, comprising degree commerce and science students, were tasked with bringing various waste items such as rough clothes, needles, wires, and stones. Under the expert guidance of the resource person, Dr. Shivani Naik, a corporate trainer and artist, the students crafted unique accessories from these materials.

6. PARYAVARAN MITRAVAT 2024-25 (ECOVERSE)

Department organized an intercollegiate event, Paryavaran Mitravat – EcoVerse, on 1st February 2025. The guest speaker was Mr. Dadarao Bilhore, a social activist known for his relentless efforts in addressing Mumbai’s pothole crisis.

1. BIODIVERSITY WALK – 1ST MARCH 2025

The Department of Environmental Studies in collaboration with Deaprtment of Banking and Insurance have successfully organized a field visit on the theme "Biodiversity Walk" to BNHS, Goregaon, Mumbai as part of an Experiential Learning initiative. The field trip, held on 1st March 2025, aimed to provide learners with an in-depth understanding of diverse biological species and raise awareness about biodiversity depletion. A total of 103 learners from FYBCOM, FYBBI, FYBAF, FYBIA, and SYBBI actively participated in the visit, making it a valuable educational experience.

ACTIVITIES UNDER NATIONAL INTEGRATION

2. ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION

The Department of Environmental Studies successfully organized an Essay Writing Competition on 26th November 2024, as the part of National Integration. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation, with a total of 92 learners across various courses showcasing their writing skills. Ms. Zakiya Khan graced the event as the judge and evaluated the participants based on content, articulation, and adherence to the topic.

3. Extempore Competition on account of Bhasha Divas 

The Department of Environmental Studies, in collaboration with the Department of Law, successfully organized an Extempore Speech Competition on 11th December 2024, as part of the Bhasha Divas celebrations. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation, with a total of 37 learners across various courses showcasing their oratory skills. Dr. Manju Singhania graced the event as the judge and evaluated the participants based on content, articulation, and adherence to the topic. The activity is conducted under the head of Bhasha Divas Event.

4. REJUVENATION TOUR GOVARDHAN ECO-VILLAGE

On the 1st of October 2024, the Department of Environmental Studies, Degree College, organized a one-day rejuvenation study tour to Govardhan Eco-Village, Galtare, District Palghar, for the students of FYBCOM Regular and Professional courses. A total of 51 enthusiastic students participated in the study tour. The students were particularly inspired by their interaction with Hemaswarupa Chaitanya Dasa, who offered profound insights into how spirituality and sustainability are intertwined.

5. GUEST LECTURE ON ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT 

Department of Environmental Studies have organized an Online Guest Lecture on topic ‘Environmental Impact Assessment’ on 12th December 2024. The guest lecturer for the same was Dr. Ajay Kumar Sharma (Sr. Social and Environmental Safeguard Expert) from New Delhi. The session was organized online on Google Meet. The resource person spoke on various aspects of Environmental Impact Assessment and briefed the learners about the different categories of the projects that require EIA. Total 86 learners from Fybcom Regular and Professional participated in the session. Dr. Sharma helped the learners in clarifying their doubts.

Student Achievement

Divya Sharma, Fybcom Q. a Mixed Martial Arts champion, has secured silver medal in FMMAI champsionship. She even secured Gold medal in Super Fight Championship, Gold medal in Hades MMA, Silver in Navsari Fighting Champion and Gold medal in Warrior Dream Series. 

Social Work

E-Waste Collegection Drive

E-Waste Collection drive was undertaken in collaboration with Department of BBI and BAMMC in the college on 16th December 2024. The learners from all the courses deposited E-waste of various types and help contribute towards environmental protection. The collected waste was handed over to Threco Foundation Ltd. Total 260.5kg e-waste was collected which contributed to Rs. 3906.
