Department of EVS & FC - Activities & Events in 2018-19


A Guest Lecture titled ‘Effective Waste Management’was organized  on 6th September, 2018, by Mrs.Seema Redkar from Observer’s Research Foundation. 125 Learners attended the workshop. Health problems of rag pickers and serious issues involved in the concept of waste handling were explained. Waste management techniques of countries like Japan, Israel & Sweden were explained to the learners.




A Guest Lecture titled ‘Human Rights’ was organized, on 10th December 2018, by Mrs.Anisha Aggarwal, an Advocate and Legal Advisor. 85 Learners attended it. Concept of ‘Human Rights’ & UDHR (Universal Declaration of Human Rights) was explained. A documentary on the history of formation of Human Rights was shown to the learners. Learners were also sensitized about the rights of prisoners.


A Guest Lecture on ‘Gender Sensitization’ was organized, on  18th January 2019, by Mr.Onil Kulkarni, Founder & President, Swadhishthan Foundation. 155 Learners attended the session. Topics like Gender, Difference between Gender and Sex, Concept of Patriarchic Society and Problems of Dowry System were discussed.

A Guest Lecture titled ‘Sustainable Development’was organized  on 19th March 2019, by Dr.Pamela Jha, an Assistant Professor in Biotechnology from Amity University of Technology.Concept of Sustainable Development,goals,objectives were explained in it.Causes, effects & solutions for Global Warming & Climate Change were also explained.

One day workshop on ‘Ecofriendly Ganesha-Idol Making’ was organized  on  24th July 2018. Ms. Chitra Mhaske, Ms. Suvarna Bange, Ms. Shaila Waghale & Mr. Shankar Jhavir from ‘Paryavaran Dakshata Manch’, Thane were invited to train learners. 45 Learners participated in the event. Learners got an insight about the importance of ecofriendly and natural material like Shadu clay, which is a better & suitable substitute for hazardous & non biodegradable material like -‘Plaster of Paris’for making Ganesha Idol. Skill of ecofriendly Ganesha Idol Making was developed amongst learners.

‘Anti-Plastic Week’ was celebrated from 10th July 2018 to 14th July 2018. It included activities like- Poster Making on the theme-‘Plastic Hatao, Dharati Bachao’and Newspaper Bag Making. The newspaper bags made by the learners were distributed to vegetable vendors of Samata Nagar, Kandivali East. Through this activity, learners were sensitized about hazards of plastic.

An Intercollegiate Competition, ‘Paryavaran Mitravat’ was organized on 26th September, 2018, which was based on the theme ‘Say No to Plastics’. Ms. Neela Soans, Charter President, Lions Club, Mumbai, was invited as the Resource Person. It included variety of competitions like Poster Making, Short Film Making, Quiz & JAM (Just A Minute). 200 learners participated from various colleges across Mumbai. Nirmala College, Kandivali (E) won ‘The Best College’  trophy. Learners got an insight about good & bad plastic, importance of plastic ban, hazards of plastic & marine pollution caused by it.

Objectives :- 1) To develop the skill of  Tree Plantation amongst learners.
2)To make learners aware about importance of Tree Plantation for Conservation of Environment
Outline Principals :- 1)To know- Advantages of Tree Plantation such as- Air Purification,Major Contribution towards Rainfall,Ecosystem management,Prevention of- Soil Erosion,Control of-Global Warming & Groundwater Recharge 2) Affection towards nature
Concept of Practice :- Learners to get aware about process & importance of Tree Plantation.

Outcome :- Learners enjoyed & learnt Tree Plantation Activity by working in groups.They also got aware about importance of Tree Plantation for ‘Conservation of Mother Earth’.


On 20th March 2019, ‘World Sparrow Day’ was celebrated by ‘Picture Demonstration’in open Quadrangle-2. ‘Save Birds,Save Nature’ was the theme for it.
