(Events under STEPS)

Workshop on Research Methodology 4th July 2024

To celebrate National Statistics Day, Department of Mathematics & Statistics organized a one-day workshop on 04-07- 2024 on Research Methodology for TY learners. The seminar was conducted in 5th floor presentation room. There were 75 participants who were participated in this workshop.

Mr. Mayur Sudan More, the resource person, provided a detailed and engaging presentation. He explained the different types of data used in research work and various research methodologies, emphasizing exploratory and analytical research.

Key highlights of the workshop included: Explanation of different statistical tools and tests such as t-test, Chi-Square test, Correlation and Regression, and ANOVA. Demonstrations on applying these statistical tests using Excel. Participants found the workshop insightful and practical, as they gained hands-on experience with statistical tools crucial for their research work.

Aptitude Test 

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics conducted an offline intra collegiate aptitude test on 4th September 2024 for the degree learners. The main aim of the event is to prepare the learners for various Government competitive examinations. The topics of the Aptitude Test were Basic Mathematics, Logical Reasoning, General Awareness and Basic Computer Knowledge. 

This test was conducted with the aim of preparing the learners for various Government competitive examinations. The topics of the Aptitude Test were Basic Mathematics, Logical Reasoning, General Awareness and Basic Computer Knowledge. 325 learners from Science & Commerce participated in this test.



Ramanujan Week (Reminiscing 1729) 

To commemorate the Birth Anniversary of the legendary Mathematician Sir Srinivasa Iyengar Ramanujan, Department of Mathematics and Statistics organised three days Inter Collegiate event, Reminiscing 1729, from 10th and 11th January 2025.

Day 1 Sudoku competition, Crossword competition and Treasure Hunt competition. 

Day 2 Data Analysis Workshop on R software. Ms. Shobhana Nadar, a R software resource person was called from Khalsha College Mumbai. 

This event was a big success and the students from participated with great enthusiasm.

Aptitude test 

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics conducted an offline Intra Collegiate Aptitude Test on 12th February 2025 for the degree learners. This test was conducted with the aim of preparing the learners for various Government competitive examinations. Aptitude Test Week from 3rd March to 8th March

 To enhance the overall academics and capability to face the various competitive exams in their future an Aptitude Test Week was conducted from 3rd March to 8st March 2025 by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and Actuarial Sciences. During this week every day an aptitude test was conducted on various topics in online mode. The link was shared through Mathematics and Statistics departmental blog. Day wise topics are given as follows:

Field Visit 

On 19-03-25 department of Mathematics & Statistics conducted a field visit to Nehru Science Centre Worli, Mumbai for science learners. Aim of this visit was to encourage learners about science and its applications in different fields. This visit was led by Assist professor Mr. Suhas Talekar. 14 science learners joined this visit.

Alumni Lecture (Career in Mathematics)

On 18-03-25 Department of Mathematics and Statistics conducted alumni lecture on career in Mathematics. Our 2004 batch mathematics Alumni Mr. Rajesh Pandey conducted a session for BSc learners. 

In an interactive session Mr. Rajesh Pandey gave guidance to mathematics learners in opportunity after completing mathematics. Total 33 learners attended the above session.

Competition on Environmental Insite Data Analysis 

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics organized an online data analysis competition on the topic Environmental Insite Data Analysis for all learners to celebrate environmental awareness. The event was conducted online on 25th July 2024, 10:00 am onwards. There were 296 participants who were participated in this event. On environmental data, questions were asked from various graphical representations. The type of graphs included were pie charts, bar graphs and multiple bar charts. Participants found the questions very interesting, and they participated with great interest. In this way, an environmental awareness was created among the learners.

Data Analysis Competition on Poverty 10th March 2025

Department of Mathematics & Statistics organized a Data Analysis competition on ‘Problems related to poverty in India. This competition was organised for the UG level learners on 10th March 2025. Learners had to collect secondary data on poverty of any state in India, carry out an analysis and give their interpretation or conclusion on their collected and analysed data with the help of various statistical tools and graphs. There were 146 participants who performed the analysis step by step and interpreted their results with logical conclusions and specific arguments.

Events under (GENDER)

Guest lecture on Gender Sensitization 

Gender sensitization refers to the process of making individuals, communities, and institutions aware of gender equality issues and fostering attitudes and behaviours that promote equality between genders. Department of Mathematics & Statistics and Actuarial Science organised a guest lecture on Gender Sensitization for the Degree College learners on 13th March 2025 at 11:00 AM. The guest speaker was Prof Charuchandra Bhalchandra Patil from English department of Bhavan’s college. The lecture was conducted through online mode.  A total of 55 learners participated in this event. The speaker imparted knowledge and importance of gender equality and disadvantages of gender inequality in a lucid manner by giving practical experiences. The speaker also gave examples involving challenging traditional gender roles, stereotypes, and biases, and advocating for equal opportunities, rights, and treatment for people of all genders.

Events under (VALUE EDUCATION)

Value education is the process through which an individual develops abilities, attitude values as well. To inculcate moral values among the learners Department of Mathematics and Statistics conducted a value education guest lecture on 28th September 2024 for the degree college learners. The topic of the guest lecture is “Over coming Social evils with moral courage”. This lecture was conducted in 1st floor seminar hall in offline mode with the aim to inculcate moral values among the learners. A famous poet, journalist and write Ms, Sashi Dip was the speaker of the event. 179 learners from Science & Commerce attended this guest lecture.

 



(Events under NATIONAL INTEGRATION)

Bhasha Divas (Language Day) is an important occasion that celebrates the richness and diversity of languages. 

Mathematics & Statistics department celebrated “BHASHA DIVAS” by conducting an activity “Online Quiz” on 9th December 2024.

770 students from Degree Commerce and Science stream participated in the event.

Participants gained knowledge about various languages, their history, importance, and the role of language in cultural identity. This promoted awareness of linguistic diversity and the significance of preserving languages.

Disciplinary National Conference on “Emerging Trends in Developing India: A Vision for the Future”.

A One Day Multi-Disciplinary National Conference on “Emerging Trends in Developing India: A Vision for the Future” was organised by the Departments of Mathematics & Statistics, Sports Science and Actuarial Science in collaboration with IQAC, Thakur College of Science & Commerce on 14th December 2024. It was an august gathering of academician, policy makers, researchers, thoughtful leaders and innovators from diverse fields.


The event commenced with an inaugural session where the Chief Guest was Mr. Ashish Limaye, CEO of Craving Digital, Mr. Tushar Giri, Executive Director, Institute of Actuaries, was the Guest of Honour and Dr. Raina Khatri Tandon, Founder CEO, RIGHT2RISE, was the Keynote Speaker. 116 abstracts and research papers were received in this conference. Three tracks were formed for the presentation of the papers.

This conference brought together experts from academia, industry and policymaking to deliberate on key aspects of India's progress trend. From the digital revolution to green energy, from healthcare innovations to education reform, the conference aimed to explore actionable insights that would empower our society and economy in the years to come.  

The participants actively engaged in the sessions, asked questions and had a good network with one another. It was a platform for knowledge-sharing, collaboration and inspiration which together, we could bring forth new ideas and partnerships that would contribute to India's vision for the future.  

The conference was a resounding success, fostering dialogue, collaboration and innovation in diverse fields. Participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity to network and learn from experts.

1) Ms. Anuradha Hait presented a paper titled “Impact of Social Media on Youth” in Multi-Disciplinary National Conference on “Emerging Trends in Developing India: A Vision for the Future”, organised by Mathematics, Statistics, Sports Science and Actuarial Science in collaboration with IQAC, Thakur College of Science & Commerce on 14th December 2024 and published the paper in Scopus listed journal “Educational Administration Theory and Practice” Vol. 30 (11),2024, page no. 1583-1589, ISSN:2148-2403.

2) Mr. Kuldeep Kandwal presented the research paper “AI - Based Prediction of Heart Disease” in the National Conference “Emerging Trends in Developing India: A Vision for the Future” organised by Mathematics, Statistics, Sports Science and Actuarial Science in collaboration with IQAC, Thakur College of Science & Commerce on 14th December 2024.

3) Mr. Kuldeep Kandwal and Mr. Suhas Talekar published research paper titled “An Enhanced Darbo-Type Fixed Point Theorems and Application to Integral Equations: in IIJRST, Volume 11, Issue 6, November- December2024, Page number 120-130.

4) Ms. Rituparna Choudhary presented a paper titled “Deriving and Solving an integer linear Programming model for Time tabling Problem” in National Conference on “Emerging Trends in Developing India: A vision for the future, in Thakur College of Science & Commerce.
