With
the aim to enhance the overall academics and development of students,
department initiated to organize power Point presentation competition on
“Application of Mathematics and Statistics in Various fields” on 7 th
September 2017.
To
enhance the overall academics and capability to face the various
competitive exams in their future an Aptitude test was taken. It was
conducted on 3rd October 2017. 168 students from Commerce, Science and
Specialized Courses appeared the Aptitude test. Multiple choice
questions were asked from various field like Mathematics, General
knowledge, General Science, Current affairs etc.
In
honour of Ramanujan ( The great Indian Mathematician ) we celebrated “
Ramanujan’s week “ from 21st to 23rd December 2017. During this week
the department has organized following events:-
Showing Movie on Ramanujan ( 21st December)
On
21st December 2018, department has to shown the famous movie on
Ramanujan called “ A Man who knows infinity”. Total 55 students of
F.Y., S.Y. and T.Y.B.Sc. were present in the movie show.
Sudoku Competition ( 22nd December)
On 22nd December 2017, Sudoku competition was organized.
Quiz Competition ( 23rd December)
A
Quiz Competition was conducted on 23rd December 2017 on different
topics of Mathematics, Logical reasoning, General Knowledge, Current
Affairs etc.
Science
exhibition “Origin-2018” was organised by Department of Mathematics on
27Th January 2018. 327 learners from various science departments
participated in the exhibition. The key objective was to bring out
hidden talents of learners and to create awareness about the emerging
fields of science and technology.
To
enhance the overall academics and capability to face the various
competitive exams in their future an Intercollegiate Aptitude test was
taken on 20th February 2018. 176 students from different colleges of
different streams appeared the Aptitude test.
Dr Sagar Kolte, Assistant Vice President Credit Suiess was invited as guest speaker to deliver a lecture on Spernes Lemma and its applications on 17th of February, 2018. Dr. Sagar completed his Ph.D. From TIFR and post doctorate from IIT, Mumbai . Learners from T.Y.B.Sc., S.Y.B.Sc. and F.Y.B.Sc. attended this guest lecture. Dr Sagar has given the massive impact on the listeners by sharing his experiences on how Applied Mathematics is part of our life by giving live examples.
R is a programming language and software environment for statistical analysis, graphics representation and reporting. R was created by Ross Ihaka and Robert Gentleman at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and is currently developed by the R Development Core Team. We conducted two day workshop on R on 11th and 12th August, 2017. Around 34 participants. Teachers and students from different colleges participated in this workshop. Asst. Prof. Shobhana S Nadar, Khalsa College, Mumbai was the Rresource person for this workshop. Prof. Shobhana gave us practical understanding on almost all concepts of the language from where one can take him/her self to higher levels of expertise.
On
3rd February 2018 in Collaboration with University of Mumbai, Thakur
College of Science and Commerce, conducted one day workshop on revision
of syllabus for different courses. For our Mathematics students, Dr.
Manjiree D Gondhalekar from Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and
Economics, and Dr. Anjum Ara Ahamad from Rizvi College were invited as
resource persons. Alumni students were also invited, their views were
being considered. Suggestions of keynote speakers, teachers from
different colleges, Alumni and students were taken and forwarded to
University via organization committee.
Akhilesh
Tayade of S.Y.B.Sc participated and presented a research project titled
“Modelling diabetes using differential equation” at Final Round of
12th Inter-collegiate Avishkar Research convention 2017-2018 held at
K.L.E Society’s science and Commerce college, Kalamboli on 20/12/2017.
To
be confident and get public exposure, this competition helped the
students to develop the communication skill and to overcome the stage
fear.15 groups comprising of 45 students from various stream
participated on various topics of Mathematics. The presentation was
conducted on 16h August 2016.

Dr.
Selby Jose from Institute of Science was invited as Guest Speaker to
deliver a lecture on Linear Algebra and its Applications on 20th of
December, 2016. Students from T.Y.B.Sc, S.Y.B.Sc and F.Y.B.Sc. attended
this Guest Lecture.
Intra Collegiate Sudoku Competition was conducted on 21th December 2016.
Intra
Collegiate Poster Making Competition was conducted on 23st December,
2016. Students from all streams made different posters on various topics
of Mathematics.

SPSS is the acronym of Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. It is one of the most popular statistical package which can perform highly complex data analysis with simple instructions. Now a days for the research and analysis this software is used as a very useful tool. Department has organized a two day workshop on 29th and 30th July 2016 on this software for the teachers and students. The Speaker for the workshop was Prof. Mr. Rahul Tiwari from R. J. College of Arts Commerce & Science, Ghatkopar. He has delivered very fruitful and effective session and the participants were very satisfied and benefited out of this workshop.

overall development of students, department conducted a Power Point
Presentation competition on 25th July 2015 on the topic “Applications of
Mathematics and Statistics in practical field”
Department
organized a Guest Lecture on 6th August 2015 on the topic “APPLICATIONS
OF MATHEMATICS IN VARIOUS FIELDS”. The speaker for the topic was Ms.
Komal Wategankar, Assistant Professor, Royal College of Arts, Science
& Commerce.
Department
organized an Intra Collegiate Quiz Competition on 19th December 2015 on
different topics viz. Mathematics, Logical Reasoning, General
Knowledge, Current Affairs etc. 34 teams each comprising of 3 members
from different streams - Science, Commerce and Specialized Courses
participated in the competition.
Department conducted an Aptitude Test on 22nd September 2015. This test is of good importance for all competitive exams.
The
learners were tested on four areas namely Basic Maths, Current Affairs,
General Awareness and Logical Reasoning. 93 students participated in
the event. The Highest scorer being Anushah Singh of TY BSc. (IT).
Department
conducted the Second Aptitude Test on 9th February 2016. The total
number of students participating increased to 230. The Highest scorer
was Arun Jha T.Y.B.Sc(physics)
What
scope the learners have in their academics after their graduation? To
answer this, Guest Lecture on “Career Guidance in Mathematics” was
arranged for the B.Sc. learners. Prof. Mandar Bhanuse, Asst. Prof. in
Maths (IDOL) was the speaker for the session. The learners were greatly
benefited by his simple way of handling complex questions of young mind.
Department
has started a “Statistical Unit” with the purpose to guide researchers
(Teachers and Students) in data analysis of their research work.
A workshop on Data Analysis for Professional Courses’ learners was conducted on 20.02.16 and 22.06.16. The workshop taught the learners how to calculate statistical methods, like, correlation, regression, chi square and t statistic, ANOVA Table in EXCEL for data analysis.
