Celebration of National Statistics Day (29Th June): Two events were conducted
Data Analysis Competition: Department of Mathematics and Statistics organized an Intercollegiate Data Analysis competition on the topic “Pre and Post Lockdown effects on the economy and poverty of different sectors such as: agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructure etc”. Participants collected secondary data and analysed those data using different statistical tools. 25 teams participated in this competition. This competition helped the learners to develop their analysis skill.
Webinar: - Dr Manish Modani (IBM, Head of Weather Department) was invited as a guest speaker to deliver a lecture on the topic Real Time Weather and COVID 19 Data Analysis on 27th June, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM. The webinar was conducted online using ZOOM platform. Participants from all over India Joined this webinar.
Poster Making Competition:

Department of Mathematics organized a poster making competition on 21st of October 2020. The topics of this competition were: Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, Care and Compassion and TeamWork. 27 students participated in this competition.
Elocution Competition: -
Department of Statistics organized an intra-collegiate Elocution Competition on 12th October to celebrate International Day of Girl Child. The topics of this competition were the challenges faced by the girls, to promote Girl Empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights and how the girls can access quality education and lead a dignified life. 20 learners from both Science and Commerce stream participated in this competition.
Aptitude Tests
The Aptitude training is absolutely vital for students, as the first round conducted by most of the reputed companies is an Aptitude test, to test their Quantitative and Logical abilities. The students are imparted in-depth knowledge on the topics such as Quantitative Aptitude, Data Interpretation, Current Affairs, General Knowledge, Reasoning, Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension. Keeping in mind the importance of the same we have taken an endeavour to help them enhance their skills by conducting series of Aptitude tests and putting Aptitude questions in departmental blog. The tests were conducted through online mode via Google form.
On 26th October 2020, 291 students from Commerce, Science and Specialized Courses appeared for the Aptitude test. Multiple choice questions were asked from various fields like Mathematics, General knowledge, General Science, Current affairs etc
On 27th January 2021, 429 students appeared Aptitude test.
On 27th February 2021, 505 students appeared Aptitude test.
On 5th April 2021, 119 students appeared Aptitude test
Poem/ Paragraph/ Slogan Writing Competition
To express our gratitude and feelings for our soldiers, on occasion of “Indian Armed Forces Flag Day”, Department of Statistics organized a poem/paragraph/slogan writing competition on 12th December 2020. 35 participants participated in the competition.
Ramanujan’s Week
In honour of Srinivasa Iyengar Ramanujan (The great Indian Mathematician), Department of Mathematics and Statistics celebrated “Ramanujan’s Week’’ from 20th to 23rd December 2020. During this week following events were organised.
i) Sudoku and Cross-word Competition (20th December)
On 20th December 2020, Sudoku and Cross word competitions were organized. 59 students participated in the competition
ii) Alumni Lecture by Mr Dhruv Bhavsar (21st December)
On 21st December 2020, Mathematics Department alumni Mr Dhruv Bhavsar delivered a lecture on the topic “Application of Mathematics and Statistics in Real life’’. The lecture was conducted online through Zoom platform.
iii)Quiz Competition (23rd December)
The First round Quiz Competition was conducted on 23rd December 2020 on different topics such as Mathematics, Logical reasoning, General Knowledge, Current Affairs etc. The competition was conducted online through Zoom platform from 5:00 pm onwards. 79 teams participated in the first round and 13 teams were selected for the final round. Career Guidance Lecture (24nd Decenber )
Ms. Sayantika Bhaduri, Senior Manager, Analytics at Capita India, was invited as a guest speaker to deliver a lecture on the topic “Career Avenues in Mathematics and Statistics” on 22nd December 2020. 150 students from TY, SY and FY BSC Mathematics and Statistics attended this guest lecture and got a brief knowledge about the career opportunities in the field of Mathematics and Statistics. The lecture was conducted online through Zoom platform from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
Career Guidance Lecture:-
Department of Statistics organized a Career Guidance webinar for TY BSc and SY BSc statistics students on 10th January 2021 from 8:00 pm in zoom platform. Mr Angshuman Hait from RBI was invited as a guest speaker to deliver a lecture on the topic “Career Opportunities in the field of Statistics”. 42 TYBSc and SYBSC Statistics learners attended this lecture through ZOOM platform
Guest Lecture (Webinar ):-
Department of Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics in association with the Art of Living organized a guest lecture on 19th January 2021 from 11:00-12:30 pm. The renowned and versatile personality Mr Ramnik Bansal was invited as a guest speaker to give a lecture on the topic “Enchanting the New Life”. 294 students from BSC attended this guest lecture through ZOOM platform
Career Guidance Lecture:-
Department of Mathematics organized a Career Guidance Lecture for TY BSC, SY BSC and FY BSC Mathematics learners on 6th February 2021 from 4:00 pm through Google meet platform.
Dr Ranadev Datta, Asst Prof IIT Kharagpur, was invited as a guest speaker to deliver a lecture on the topic “Career and Research Opportunity in Mathematics”. 50 students attended this guest lecture and got a brief knowledge about the various career opportunities in Mathematics .
Guest Lecture (Webinar) :-
On the occasion of Shahid Divas, Department of Mass Media and Department of Statistics organized a webinar on the topic “Roll of Youth in Badalta Bharat” on 8th February from 5:00 pm. Col. Mr Dev Lohamaror was invited as a guest speaker to give a enthusiastic speech on the above topic. 96 students from Statistics and BMM attended the webinar.
Movie Screening: -
Department of Mathematics presented an award winning film screening of “Before the Flood’’ on 13th February 2021 from 4:00 pm onwards through Google Meet platform. The movie is an award winning documentary about climate change, a very important recent environmental issue and is directed by the famous director Mr Fisher Stevens.
12) Resume Writing Workshop:
The Resume Writing workshop was for the final year students of PG and UG level. It was an interactive session by Ms. Rama Ray, HOD of Business Communication, who guided and helped our students to prepare a Resume or C.V by putting the key points. She also, in a very lucid manner, explained to the students how to prepare a SOP. She further explained the difference between a Resume, C.V and a Biodata. In a nutshell, it was a very helpful session for the final semester students. 66 students from TYBSC Mathematics, Statistics and BCOM attended the workshop.
) GEOGEBRA Workshop
GeoGebra is a dynamic mathematics software for all levels of education that brings together geometry, algebra, spreadsheets, graphing, statistics and calculus in one easy to use package. The workshop was conducted on 22.04.21 at 11 am in zoom platform. The resource person was Prof. Mandar Bhanushe, (IDOL) University of Mumbai. 92 participants from science attended the workshop and learned how to draw dynamic geometrical figures, scatter diagram, graphs using the software.
