Guest Lecture 

On the occasion of National Statistics Day, a guest lecture on “Developing professional career through Mathematics and Statistics” was organised on 29 th June 2022 for second year and third year learners. The guest speaker was Dr. Madhukar H. Dalvi, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Nagindas Khandwala College, Malad, Mumbai. 53 learners participated and were enlightened by the various career options on Mathematics and Statistics discussed by Professor Dalvi.

Data Visualization  Competition 

A competition on Data Visualization was organized to celebrate “World Population Day’’ on the topic ‘’Awareness of Rising Population and its Consequences’’ on 25th July 2022. 34 teams in a group of 2 or 3 learners participated in the event. Data on population was provided to the learners on the spot. Learners analysed and interpreted the data with the help of various statistical tools and graphs.

Aptitude Test  

To enhance the overall academics and capability to face the various competitive exams in their future, an Aptitude test was taken. The test was conducted through online mode on 27th September 2022. 541 learners from Commerce, Science and Specialized Courses appeared the Aptitude test. Multiple choice questions were asked from various field like Mathematics, General knowledge, General Science, Current affairs etc.

Data Analysis Competition

A Data Analysis competition on the topic “Awareness on Environmental Pollution and Hazards and its Consequences” was organised on 10th October 2022. Data on environment was provided to the learners on the spot, learners analysed and interpreted the given data using different mapping ,graphs and mathematical analysis. 102 learners participated in the event.

Ramanujan week (Reminiscing 1729):-

To commemorate the Birth Anniversary of the legendry Mathematician Sir Srinivasa Iyengar Ramanujan, a three days Inter Collegiate event, Reminiscing 1729, was organised from 19th December 2022 to 21st December 2022.

On Day 1 (19.12.22), guest lecture was conducted on Career Guidance from 10:00 AM – 12:00 noon. Dr. Selby Jose, Professor & Head, Department of Mathematics of The Institute of Science, Dr. Homi Bhabha State University, Mumbai, was the keynote speaker. Two alumni, Mr. Justin Pinto of Department of Statistics and Mr. Bharat Laxmanram Choudhary of Department of Mathematics also enlightened the learners. 51 learners from the Dept. of Mathematics & Statistics attended this event. This was followed by online Aptitude Test at 2:00 PM. 117 learners participated in this event.

Day 2 (2012.22) started with Quiz from 10:00 AM. The next event was Crossword (11:00 AM – 12:00 Noon) followed by Sudoku (12:00 -1:00 PM) and the day ended with   Mathematical Housie (1:00 PM – 2:00 PM). 34 teams participated in Quiz competition, 56 learners participated in Crossword and Sudoku and 74 learners played Housie.

Day 3 (21.12.22) started with Snake & Ladder from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon in which there were 35 participants. From 12:00 Noon the Gala Event of all the three days– Treasure Hunt started  and ended at 2:45 PM. 68 learners participated in this event.

This event was a big success and the learners from different colleges participated with great enthusiasm and zeal.

Field Trip to Nehru Planetarium and Nehru Science Centre (Worli)

Department of Mathematics and Department of Statistics in collaboration with Science Association arranged a field trip to Nehru Planetarium and Nehru Science Centre (Worli) on 5th February 2023.  Learners from Science stream visited the Planetarium and Science Centre with Mr. Kuldeep Kandwal (faculty of Mathematics). The learners visited the galleries where they were able to see the various exhibits based on stone ages, Harappa civilization, discovery of fire and exhibits based on Indian History, invasion of Mughals, invasion of East India company and various Indian Dynasties. Learners also gained knowledge of applications of science and formation of stars, planets by watching documentary on universe. Learners found this visit very informative.

Data Analysis Competition on Poverty:-

To increase the awareness about the problems related to poverty in different states of India, a Data Analysis Competition was organised on 15.03.23. Learners collected secondary data on  "Poverty for any State of India" and carried out an analysis and gave their interpretation/ conclusion on their collected data. 89 learners participated in this competition.

Skill Course on R Software

R is an open source and it is used for statistical analysis, graphical representation and reporting. R was created by Ross Ihaka and Robert Gentleman at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and is currently developed by the R Development Core Team. The department conducted skill course on Basics of R software of 45 hours duration for the learners of T Y BAF. Mrs. Anuradha Hait and Dr Neeta Jain were the coordinators of the skill course. 170 students enrolled the course, and 150 students successfully completed the course. Various statistical analysis tools were discussed in online lectures, videos were created on it and hand on training was given.

Aim of the Event:

To improve and develop the qualitative and quantitative skills required to achieve performance and success in life.

To build self-confidence, enhance self-esteem and improve overall personality of the participants.

To improve the mental aptitude and to develop cognitive skills.

Description of the Event:

 “Metamorphosis”-A journey of Transformation, skill course was conducted for the Second Year Learners of Degree College of all programs. It was 45 hrs. Certificate course (32 hrs. theory + 13 Practical sessions) conducted on online Zoom platform. It was amazing learning experience for the students. Students have learnt skills which are require to achieve success in life.


Bridge Course on Basics of Mathematics


Bridge course on Basics of Mathematics were conducted for F Y BCom students who have not opted Mathematics in 11 and 12th standard. Bridge course was also conducted for Biotechnology students.

T -Shirt Painting 

To celebrate “ AZADI KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV”  and to boost the spirit of patriotism & creativity, an event of  T – Shirt Painting was organized on 10th Auguest 2022. The theme of the event was  “75 Years of Independence”.

Value Education on Skin and Blood Donation 

Even though the skin is the largest human organ, awareness on skin donation is very low in India. The first Skin bank in India – National Burns Centre was commissioned on October 5, 2022, in Mumbai. SKIN BANKING is a facility where the skin is collected from eligible deceased donor and processed as per international protocols.

To spread the awareness on skin donation and to understand the procedure of it, we organised a guest lecture on the topic “Prevention of Burns & Organs, Skin & Eyes Donation Awareness” in association with Inner Wheel Club of Bombay, Kandivali. Speakers for the event were Mr. Navin Vazirani (Skin Bank Co-Ordinator) and Mr. Vikas Anvhale (Senior Research and Skin Bank officer). 340 learners attended the event.  

Guest Lecture on “Imperfections and it’s acceptance’’. 

A guest lecture on the topic “Imperfections and it’s acceptance’’ was organised on 07th October 2022, by Mrs. Sujata Dev, Managing Director of Third Generation Mobile Pvt. Ltd. 169 learners from both Science and Commerce stream attended the lecture. Mrs. Dev in her lecture brought to the fore that every human being is imperfect, in spite \ of that we need to accept or rather tolerate each other as it is the only way to give us peace, harmony, love and happiness. It was really a pleasure to hear her speak as she is a professional motivational speaker too. The young generation gathered soulful insights from her.

Events on Corruption Free India  (Report on: Observance of Vigilance Awareness Week 2022)

Theme: ‘Corruption free India for a developed Nation’

An event on “Observance of Vigilance Awareness week 2022” was organised by Thakur College of Science and Commerce in association with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) on 11th November 2022 from 9:30 AM. on the theme “Corruption Free India for A Developed Nation”. Mr. P.T. Nimaje, G.M. (Vigilance) IOC, brought to the fore the various activities undertaken by IOCL along with the perils of corruption and activities taken by them to make India corruption free nation. The speech of the guest was followed by Elocution and Quiz competition of the Degree learners. 56 learners participated in Elocution competition and 411 learners participated in Quiz competition.

Yoga Session 8th to 13th December 2022 :- 

Yoga session was organised for the learners of all the courses of the college. T.Y.B.Sc. Mathematics and T.Y.B.Sc. Statistics learners participated this Yoga session from 8th to 13th of December 2022. Every day it was of 1 hour duration from 7.00 AM to 8.00 AM.  42 learners participated in this yoga session. The learners benefitted a lot from this session. It improved their physical and mental fitness and they also realised that health is very important to lead a good life.
