National Statistics Day celebration

To commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, in collaboration with Department of Investment Banking, National Statistics Day was celebrated by organising a lecture on “Implementation of Statistical Tools in Investment and Wealth Building” on 28th June 2023 and hands on training on R Software on 30th June 2023.  41 learners from Science and Commerce attended the lecture which was conducted by Ms. Suchandana Dutta, Assistant Professor of Department of Statistics. 56 learners from all the streams of UG level participated hands -on training on R Software which was conducted by Ms. Rituparna Choudhary, Assistant Professor of the Department of Mathematics.

A Data Analysis Competition was conducted on “Problems related to poverty of any state in India” on 20th August 2023. Learners had to collect secondary data on poverty of any state in India , carry out an analysis and give their interpretation or conclusion on their collected and analysed data with the help of various statistical tools and graphs. 64 participants performed the analysis step by step and interpreted their results with logical conclusions and specific arguments.   

 Winners: 1st Rank: Tanishqua Jha (TYDS), 2nd Rank: Sumant Vishwakarma(SYIT), 3rd Rank: Janhavi Sudhir Chadavale(FYBCOM R)


Apptitude Test:  Intra Collegiate Aptitude Test on 18th September 2023 for the degree learners. This test was conducted with the aim of preparing the learners for various Government competitive examinations. The department conducts Aptitude Test in every term. The topics of the Aptitude Test were Basic Mathematics, Logical Reasoning, General Awareness and Basic Computer Knowledge. 474 students participated in this test.

Reminiscing 1729

To commemorate the Birth Anniversary of the legendry Mathematician Sir Srinivasa Iyengar Ramanujan, Department of Mathematics and Statistics organised a two days Inter Collegiate event, Reminiscing 1729, on 5th and 6th of January 2024. Total 712 students from Science and Commerce stream participated in the events of these two days. 

 Workshop on R software was conducted from 10:30 AM – 2:00 PM by Mr. Justin Stanislaus Pinto, an Alumni of Department of Statistics, TCSC. It was a hands-on training workshop which was attended by 53 Science and Commerce students. They got an overview of converting unstructured data into a structured format and learnt application of statistical analysis and plotting graphs.  An online Aptitude Test was also conducted for the UG level students during the college hours where 455 students from Science and Commerce stream participated.

 started with Quiz competition from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM. The next event was Crossword (12:30 PM – 1:00 PM) followed by Sudoku (1:00 -1:30 PM) and the day ended with the gala event of the two days, the Treasure Hunt (1:30 PM – 4:00 PM). Total 204 students participated in Quiz, Crossword, Sudoku and Treasure Hunt competition.

(Events Under Value)



Debate Competition was conducted on the theme “National Integration is severely hampered by regional disparities in economic and cultural development” on 14th July 2023. 42 learners from all the streams participated in this competition with great enthusiasm. Each participant spoke their mind on the given theme which led to a wide spectrum of contrasting views and accepted by the spectators with cheers and claps.

A Guest Lecture was conducted on “Unveiling Inner Joy: Cultivating Youth Emotional Well-Being” on 24th August 2023. It was an interactive session where the speaker Ms. Simmi Gulati, Certified NIP Practitioner and ICF certified coach, Life and Executive coach, explained and gave the students Practical training on the topic. 31 learners from Science attended the lecture and participated in the training.


     





 “BHARTIYA BHASHA UTSAV” was celebrated with the theme of “भाषाएं अनेक भाव एक” by conducting an activity “Poetry Recitation” on 11th December 2023. The learners recited the poems in multiple languages.

भाषाएं अनेक भाव एक" सिद्धांत ने बताया है कि भाषाएं अपने-आप में विभिन्नता लेकर भी एक समृद्ध समाज की भावनाओं को साझा कर सकती हैं। यह समृद्धि, सांस्कृतिक समृद्धि, और भाषाओं के साहित्यिक माध्यम से समृद्ध समाज की रूपरेखा को मजबूत करता है। 56 students from Degree Commerce and Science stream participated in the event.

(Events under Seminar/ Workshop)


Online Quiz Competition was conducted In collaboration with Department of EVS and FC and Sports Science. The Quiz competition was based on National Education Policy 2020 (NEP) and was held on 27th July 2023. Total 177 students participated in this competition. 

Winners are: 1st Rank Shreya Chavan (FYBMS B2), 2nd Rank: Jay Kawa (FYBMS C+B2), 3rd Rank: Alisha Martis (F.Y.BMS B1), Kaushank Singh (FYBMS), Divya Gupta( FYBMS A), Priya Shukla( FYBSC BSS).



A Guest Lecture on “Financial Literacy and Awareness” was conducted on 26th September 2023. The guest speakers were Ms. Tina Ghosh, Deputy Manager, NSE, Mumbai and Mr. Sandeep Verma, Assistant Manager, NSDL, Mumbai. A total of 118 learners participated in this event. The speakers imparted financial knowledge and explained in a lucid manner how to manage their financial resources effectively. This event was an eye opener for the students as they got to learn the various ways of saving their money and gain profit from their savings.

A Guest Lecture on “Career Guidance” was conducted on 2nd February 2024.  Mr. Yogesh Ganpat Bhalekar, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, TCET, Mumbai was the resource person. He emphasized on the various streams of Mathematics that a learner can apply after the completion of 3 year Degree Course. He also made students aware about the time, paper pattern and syllabus of various competitive exams that the students can crack. 39 B.Sc. Mathematics students benefitted from this interactive session.

     



Guest lecture on Gender Sensitization: Gender sensitization refers to the process of making individuals, communities, and institutions aware of gender equality issues and fostering attitudes and behaviors that promote equality between genders. A guest lecture was conducted on “Empowering Youth: Navigating the Path to Gender Sensitization” for the Degree College learners on 2th February 2024. The guest speaker was Ms. Shirisha Yeotikar, Program Coordinator, Youth for change, Akshara Centre. A total of 203 learners participated in this event. The speaker imparted knowledge and importance of gender equality and disadvantages of gender inequality in a lucid manner by giving practical experiences. The speaker also gave

examples involving challenging traditional gender roles, stereotypes, and biases, and advocating for equal opportunities, rights, and treatment for people of all genders.

Cleaning Activity on 3rd March 2024 in National Park with FY BSC PM Students under Green Club Activity .

Water Conservation:

On 17th March social visit to the Ramgad area (Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari foundation) for study of  water conservation strategies and other related initiatives.


Skill Course on R Software

R is an open source and it is used for statistical analysis, graphical representation and reporting. R was created by Ross Ihaka and Robert Gentleman at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and is currently developed by the R Development Core Team. The department conducted skill course on Basics of R software of 45 hours duration for the BAF learners. Mrs. Anuradha Hait and Dr Neeta Jain were the coordinators of the skill course. 44 students enrolled the course, and 33 students successfully completed the course. Various statistical analysis tools were discussed in online lectures, videos were created on it and hand on training was given. 


Skill Course on Metamorphosis


45 hours Skill Course on Metamorphosis was conducted by– Department of Commerce and Mathematics and Statistics. 140 second year B.Com. students enrolled the course and 38 students successfully completed the course.

Aim of the Event:

To improve and develop the qualitative and quantitative skills required to achieve performance and success in life.

To build self-confidence, enhance self-esteem and improve overall personality of the participants.

To improve the mental aptitude and to develop cognitive skills.



Bridge Course on Basics of Mathematics


Bridge course on Basics of Mathematics were conducted for F Y BCom students who have not opted Mathematics in 11 and 12th standard. Bridge course was also conducted for Biotechnology students.

Ms. Anuradha Hait presented a paper titled “Awareness of Swami Vivekananda among Young Generation” in National Conference on “Harmonizing Wisdom by Unveiling Swami Vivekananda's Teachings and Indian Knowledge System for Enhancing Quality in Higher Education” on 6th March 2024 organized by Swami Vivekananda Association and IQAC, TCSC.


Ms. Anuradha Hait’s paper titled “Entrepreneurship in Young Mind” has been selected for publication in Scopus journal of Namibian Studies, ISSN-2197-5523.


Mr. Kuldeep Kandwal published a paper titled “A statistical Study on Factors Affecting Consumer Behaviour in Online Shopping” in International Journal of Research Vol 12 (2) 2023 page 81-85. ISSN 2231-6124, impact factor SJIF 2023 (8.734).


Ms. Rituparna Choudhary published a paper on “Various Optimization Applications Using Mathematical Models - A Review” in Monthly, Peer-Reviewed, Refereed, Indexed International Research Journal named as “Journal of Science and Healthcare Exploration” (Volume - 5, Issue - 9, September – 2023).


Ms. Rituparna Choudhary presented a paper on “State-wise Comparative Analysis on Women Empowerment” in National Conference on “Harmonizing Wisdom by Unveiling Swami Vivekananda's Teachings and Indian Knowledge System for Enhancing Quality in Higher Education” on 6th March 2024 organized by Swami Vivekananda Association and IQAC, TCSC.


Ms. Suchandana Dutta published a paper on “Exploring the Potential of Renewable Energy Integration and Smart Grid Technologies for Sustainable Urban Development” in Innovative Research In Multidisciplinary Field with ISSN: 2455-0620 and Scientific Journal Impact Factor: 7.581.


Ms. Suchandana Dutta presented a paper on “Factors Affecting the Investment ideology of Youth in Mumbai” in International Conference on Global Research Trends in Higher Education jointly  organised by Management Institute, The Warsaw University of Life Sciences, Poland , International Scientific Research Association, Research Culture Society & Swaraj Research Institute held on 19th & 20th August 2023 and  received Best Paper Presentation Award. The paper was published in International Journal For Innovative Research In Multidisciplinary Field with ISSN: 2455-0620 and Journal Impact Factor: 7.581.
