ANNUAL REPORT A.Y. 2024-25


The academic year at Thakur College of Science and Commerce commenced with a vibrant Induction Session from 10th to 12th July 2024. The 15th batch of Mass Media students was warmly welcomed by seasoned educators and senior students, setting an energetic and inspiring tone for the journey ahead. The event marked the beginning of an academic year that would be filled with learning, creativity, and immersive experiences.


In the early days of the semester, the students were introduced to a range of enriching activities. On 8th July 2024, the students participated in the ‘Face the Camera’ event, an engaging introduction to media-related activities. The academic calendar also featured several workshops that brought industry professionals to campus, further bridging the gap between theory and practice. A few days later, on 15th July 2024, they attended a workshop conducted by Dishant Shah attended by 124 learners, which offered valuable insights into the art of copywriting, providing the students with an understanding of how powerful words shape narratives and messages. A Brand Building Workshop by Bhavika Mehta on July 26, 2024, attended by 45 learners, provided with a deeper understanding of the importance of branding in today’s media and business landscape. On 2nd August 2024, Aastha Godika, a seasoned producer, led a workshop on Producing Non-Fiction shows on Television with 77 learners in presence, allowing students to experience firsthand the intricacies involved in the production process. August also saw the renowned filmmaker Sajid Samji host a workshop on The Landscape of Hindi Cinema on 13th August 2024 in presence of 123 learners, sharing his vast knowledge and insights into the world of filmmaking. The students also had the chance to engage in some lighter but equally exciting events. 

 This was followed by a workshop on Photography by Ashish Kamble on 20th August 2024 in the presence of 138 students, where students had the opportunity to explore the technical and artistic aspects of photography.

The Fresher’s Party on 22nd August 2024, themed ‘Stellar Bash’, was a glamorous and joyous celebration that introduced new students to the vibrant culture of the department. On 17th August 2024, a Photography trek to Palasdari Waterfalls near Karjat with 149 learners, offered a perfect blend of learning and adventure, as students captured the natural beauty around them while refining their skills. To deepen their connection to the history of Indian Cinema, on 13th September 2024, students visited the National Museum of Indian Cinema. This visit allowed them to explore the rich heritage and evolution of the Indian film industry, providing them with a deeper appreciation for the cultural and historical significance of cinema.

Palasdari Trek

The academic year also saw significant social and cultural milestones. On 15th August 2024, students participated in a heartfelt ceremony to celebrate India’s Independence Day, paying tribute to the country’s history and patriotism. Seasoned Filmmaker Vishal Chaturvedi conducted a guest session on Agenda Setting in Cine World on 25th September 2024 which was attended by 86 learners. On October 17th, a total of 105 students visited Neeta Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (Jio World, Bandra) for the launch of the film Singham again in the presence of the star cast. 16th November 2024 hosted the gracious presence of Supratim Bhol for a STEP Workshop on Mastering in Cinematic Art from 2:00 to 6:00 PM with 38 learners. Then, on 21st January 2025, students gathered in support of LGBTQIA+ rights, participating in a Pride Parade. They expressed solidarity through vibrant slogans and attire, celebrating inclusivity and diversity. The department also conducted a guidance session on IELTS Examination on 27th January 2025.

In January 2025, the students also took part in the Third Eye Asian Film Festival, which took place from 10th to 16th January. Over 40 films were screened during the festival, which was organized by the Asian Film Foundation and patronized by the Government of Maharashtra. More than 50 volunteers, along with a dedicated faculty team, contributed to the success of the event. The academic year culminated in the 13th edition of Cortokino… Unleashing Global Cinema, the department’s annual international short film festival, which celebrated global filmmaking diversity under the theme ‘Kage No Sekai’. This festival was supported by esteemed partners, the event offered a global platform for student filmmakers to showcase their work.


                       



The academic year closed on a high note with the Farewell Party on 15th March 2025. The event, themed ‘Mumbai Mafia: Khel Khalaas’, was a dazzling celebration that allowed students to reminisce about their cherished memories. As the students bid farewell, it was clear that the bonds formed during this unforgettable year would continue to shape their personal and professional journeys.


This academic year, marked by creative exploration, academic workshops, cultural milestones, and social engagement, provided the students with a rich and diverse experience that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact.



THE INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FEST: CORTOKINO’S ASCENSION


The 13th edition of CortoKino, the Annual International Short Film Festival organized by the Media Department of Thakur College of Science and Commerce in presence of 202 students, commenced with grandeur on January 28th and continued to reach its zenith till the dusk of 29th January. The festival was shrouded in the twinkle of this year's captivating theme "Kage No Sekai" (where shadows whisper secrets and the unseen awaits).


The inaugural ceremony presented the lamp lighting performed by Ms. Kanupriya Pandit and featured the screening of "Kasadaru", a masterfully crafted short film directed by T. Ravichandran. A captivating array of International and Animated short films from around the world captivated the discerning audience at the flagship CortoKino event. These masterpieces were analysed by the skilled experts in the art- Mr. Gurmmeet Singh and Mr. Tarun Keswani respectively. 


The poetry event "Chant with Chudail", was guided by the literary wizard Ms. Harshada Borkar. Further, the other events of the day- "Nark Shastra'' judged by the seasoned Ms. Pallavi Rao, "Dar Ka Shaher" judged by Siddharth Mali,  "Demons Mantra" judged by the famed Rapper MC Benn, "Ctrl+Curse'', the trailer-making event critiqued by the versatile creator Mr. Aditya Desai, the debate event "Tark Tantra'' guided by Ms. Harshita Babele, the poster making event "Mrutya Chitrakala" judged by the o so talented Mr. Ashish Padlekar and the stand-up event "Laugh With Lucifer" captained by Mr. Faizal Khan. The highlight of the day was the TVC event "Soul Ka Sauda" judged by Anurima Chakraborty and a mesmerizing fashion show "Graveyard Gala" graced by gradual personalities Mr. Tushar Khanna and Ms. Leena Jumani, which brought the day to a splendid close. Day 1 of CortoKino'25 stood as a testament to the enduring allure of film artistry and the creative spirit that unites enthusiasts and professionals alike. 


Alongside these events, day 1 was graced by the star-studded cast of Loveyapa, Khushi Kapoor and Junaid Khan for the trailer launch of their latest Bollywood venture, which took all of our hearts away.

The second day of CortoKino'25 began with National Movie Screenings judged by Mr. Lovesh Nagar, featuring films from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, and Delhi, showcasing diverse expressions of creativity. Following this, a series of engaging events unfolded, starting with the Journalism competition "Sach Ka Search" evaluated by Mr. Shashikant Singh and the Make-Up and Hairstyle event "Phases of Ganji Chudail" under the seasoned eye of Ms. Neha Varma, which explored the artistic aspects of beauty. The day continued with the CC Short Film Event "Shoot The Bhoot", where participants showcased compelling stories under the guidance of the talented judge Mr. Ahmed Faizal Inam,  the Scriptwriting and Storyboarding event "Daanvo Ki Kahaani- Kino Ki Zubani" and the Monoacting event "Kyuki Picture Abhi Baki Hai" showcased talents under the supervision of industry experts- Ms.Sangeeta Verekar and Mr. Adil Khan respectively. Ms. Durva Chavan lent his expertise to "Market of The Cursed Antiques'', the shark tank event, and DJ Raj judged the Bolier Room competition "Boiler of Souls", adding to the beat fervor of the day. The Dance event "Bhooto Ki Baarat”, judged by the X1X Crew and Saurabh Prajapati, highlighted captivating visual storytelling, leading up to the electrifying Band event "Witches Night Out" evaluated by Mr. Anish Chhabra.


Day 2 became a spectacle of epic proportions with the iconic choreographer and director Ganesh Acharya making an appearance at the event to launch his much-awaited directorial magnum opus, Pintu Ki Papi. His larger-than-life presence charged the air, leaving the crowd in wonder and expectation for what was going to be a cinematic spectacle!

The culmination of CortoKino'25 was marked by the much-anticipated award ceremony, where outstanding participants were honoured.

3) Waves 2025– Young Filmmakers Challenge hosted by Whistling Woods International on 7th & 8th March 2025, a talented team of young creatives made their mark by securing a spot among the Top 10 Finalists in senior category out of over 1200+ entries from more than 80 cities across India. Representing Mumbai as the only selected team from the city, the group created a powerful 60-second short film centred around the theme "Humanity & Technology." Their selection earned them the opportunity to participate in an exclusive two-day filmmaking workshop with acclaimed filmmaker Amol Gupte. The team featured Herram Rajwaniya, Ayush Singh, and Manish Bhagat from [FYFTNMP], along with Vidit Singh [TCET], showcasing the emerging talent and creative spirit of young filmmakers.


4) Vansh Kapil Shethia [FYBAMMC] secured Bronze Medal in Gen AI Digital Comic at Maac 24FPS International Animation Awards 2024 Sahara Star.



5) Kashish Guru [SYBAMMC] secured 1st Place in Hunar Ratna Bridal Contest
at Bandra on 29th May 2024.


6) Ayush Saxena [TYBAMMC] Played a Role of Vivek in the Disney+ Hotstar web series Rudrakaal and has appeared in television shows such as Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. He also played a notable part in the Bollywood film Khajoor Pe Atke. Ayush recently bagged a role in Ranju Ki Betiyaan on Dangal TV and is currently shooting for an upcoming web series for Amazon Prime Video.


7)Kaladi Films’ latest short film “Saahasi” made a remarkable impression at the prestigious Olive Wreath Awards 2025, hosted by the Silver Screen Film Society of Patkar-Varde College. The film took home accolades for Best Short Film, Best Editor, and a Cash Prize, standing out for its gripping storytelling and technical brilliance. Directed and written by Shagun Keshari [SYFTNMP], the film showcased a strong creative vision, while Aditya Shelke [SYFTNMP] impressed in his multifaceted role as Assistant Director, Assistant Cinematographer, and Editor. The visual storytelling was further elevated by Lopesh Karki [SYFTNMP], who served as the Cinematographer and Colourist.


8) Divyaansh Upadhyay [TYFTNMP] was awarded Best Fashion Influencer at IIT Bombay’s E-Summit – Influencer Fest in February 2025. His unique style and digital presence earned him standout recognition at this prestigious event.


9) Adnan Shakeel [TYBAMMC] was invited as a special guest at Coscon 2024, hosted by the Nagpur Anime Club, in recognition of his remarkable journey from fan dubbing to becoming a professional voice artist. With an impressive portfolio of dubbing for popular anime like Kaiju No. 8, Code Geass, and Dr. Stone, as well as live-action series including The Summer I Turned Pretty, Crown, Hierarchy, and Cassandra on Netflix, Adnan captivated the audience with his insights, journey, and voice acting skills. His dedication to the craft earned him the Best Voice Actor Award and recognition for inspiring the next generation of dubbing artists.


10) Gauri Krishna Kumar brought great pride to Thakur College by winning the Gold Medal in the Indian Classical Dance category at both the Zonal (Thakur College of science and commerce) and Final Rounds (Anna Leela College of commerce and economics) of the 57th Mumbai University Youth Festival. Competing with top dancers across institutions, Gauri’s grace, discipline, and classical mastery shone through in each performance. This remarkable achievement not only celebrates her individual talent but also highlights the rich cultural spirit of our college.


11) Pallavi Jha [FYBAMMC] represented Maharashtra at multiple prestigious MMA National Championships, securing four national medals- Gold, two Silvers, and a Bronze—in Strawweight (-52 kg) and Flyweight (-56 kg) categories in amateur MMA fights. Competing against top athletes from across the country, I demonstrated resilience, discipline, and fighting spirit. These victories reflect my journey from a youth MMA champion to a consistent national-level athlete, and I am honoured to bring pride to Thakur College of Science and Commerce.


12) Manas Prabhu, Arnav Ojha, Dhruv P. [FYBAMMC] along with his team secured 2nd place in Narqubis Gaming Competition in Thakur College of Science and Commerce and showcased excellent strategy and teamwork in the launch event of Narqubis' new "Mineral Hunt" game mode. With the CEO of Narqubis present, it was a high-energy, interactive experience. 


13) Divya Kadam [SYBAMMC] secured Gold Medal in Kumite (Fight) in National Open Karate Championship 2024 at Dahisar Sports Foundation on 4th August 2024.


14) Arnav Ojha [FYBAMMC] represented Mumbai (FAM) in the National Futsal Championship (FAI) on 13th sept- 16th sept 2024 in Nashik. He completed his "All India Football Federation" AIFF D license course in Palghar on 23rd- 27th sept 2024.He secured Runner up position in Senior U20 State level Tchoukball Championship 2024. He also secured 1st place in Jalgaon Football District Championship 2025 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Stadium Jalgaon on 20th Feb-22nd Feb 2025.

15) Shreya Ganesh Acharya, a second-year MAEMA student, has excelled in athletics with impressive achievements. She represented Mumbai University at the All-India University Games. At the Ashwamed State Meet, she won gold in the 100m relay and silver in the 400m relay. At the Interzonal Meet, she bagged golds in the 200m and 400m, along with silvers in the 100m relay and 100m mixed relay.


16) Kevin Patel, a FYBAMMC student, worked as the paint lead VFX artist for Hisab Barabr, Match Fixing, and Pintu Ki Pappi, showcasing strong skills in visual effects early in his journey.



17) Sameer Shekhar [TYBAMMC] built and managed meme pages that have collectively generated over 300 million+ views on Instagram. Additionally, He also created viral content for brands such as Amazon Mini TV, Filter Copy, and Ola. These campaigns have contributed to brand visibility, youth engagement, and digital reach.


18) Divyaansh Upadhyay [TYFTNMP] founder of Undhiyu Creation, was recently invited as chief guest at ITM Institute of Design and Media. He shared his journey, insights on creativity and media trends, and thanked ITM for empowering aspiring designers.


19) Kimaya Rele [TYBAMMC] starred in Zee Marathi's TV show: Chal Bhava Citith.


20) Shristi Dubey [FYBAMMC] has made notable achievements across various platforms. She earned a $1000 scholarship from Saint Louis University, USA, and won 1st place in the “Talk It Out” Debate Competition. She also secured 3rd place in an Extempore Competition at Shivotsav Fest and was part of the Executive Board at the Government Law College MUN. Additionally, she was crowned Ms. Thakur in December 2024.


21) Aarna Sawant, a FYBAMMC student, competed in the Zone-2 Intercollegiate Yogasan Competition on 7th December 2024 at VIVA College, Virar West. Representing Thakur College, she helped her team win a gold medal and ranked 7th individually. 


22) Sandhiya Gupta [TYFTNMP] has worked in the PCR department for top Marathi TV shows.
