Department of Chemistry - Activities & Events in 2022-23


1. session on Tuberculosis was organized on 9th July 2022. The Guest Speaker for the session was Ms Reena Raval, District T.B. Officer. The speaker explicated the various aspects of TB with special reference to its Causes, detection and treatment.Total Participants were 131.

2.A visit was organized to Kandivali Fire Brigade and Borivali West Police Station on  the occasion of Rakhsha Bandhan on 11th August, 2022. The objective this visit was to express the gratitude to the  Fire Fighter and Police officers. Rachis were tied and sweets were distributed to the Fire Fighters and Police Officers.Total Participants were 30.

3.Guest Lecture on “Organic Spectroscopy” was organized on 20th August,2022 . The speaker was Dr. Kiran Jathar, Vice Principal,National College. The speaker explained in detail the various types of spectroscopic techniques for the elucidation of Organic Compounds.Total Participants were 122

4.Awareness Session related to LGBTIQ was conducted on 30th August ,2022. The Resource person was Ms Ujwala Zare, Retired Principal Sheth G.H. College and Social activitist. The speaker made the participants realized that they are an integral part of the society and have to be accepted and given due respect. Total Participants were 124.

A Guest Lecture on LGBTIQ was conducted on 30th August ,2022 by Ms Ujwala Zare, Retired Principal Sheth G.H. College and Social activitist.

5.Industrial visit was organized to IOCL, located at Sewri for M.Sc. students. The visit involved the demonstration of petrol quality testing. The visit was organized on 16TH November, 2022.Total Participants were 39.

Industrial Visit to Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Sewri for M.Sc. learners


6.Yoga Sessions were conducted from 4th Decenber, 2022 to 10thDecember, 2022 for TYBSc (SEM VI) students. The purpose of these sessions was to improve the mental state of the students.Total Participants were 60.

7.Industrial visit was organized to BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards), located at Andheri for S.Y.B.Sc. students. The visit involved the mechanical, electrical, chemical, quality control departments. The visit was organized on 16th December, 2022.Total Participants were 23.

8.Scholars Talk was organized for TYBSc (Sem VI) learners by Ms. Akshata Rao & Ms Honey Oza on 21st January,2023. The speakers specifically stressed on the preparation for the final semester examination. The Speakers explained the learners the planning schedule for the effective performance at the Sem VI examination.Total Participants were 89.

9.Workshop on Stucture Drawing using Chemsketch was conducted from 21st January , 2023 to 25th Febuary,2023 for the PG learners. This software is an effective tool for the online drawing of complicated structures of organic molecules which are an integral part of reactions and Mechanisms.Total Participants 26.

10.Elocution Competition was organized under the Umbrella of “Panch Pran” an initiative by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in the step towards making India a developed country on 28th January, 2023. Various topics related to Economics, Commerce, Science and technology were considered in this competition where Learners of various stream participated. The First position was secured by Mr. Siddharth Dwivedi, SYBMS.The Second position was secured by Mr. Darshit Yadav, FYBAF and the Third position was secured by Dhirti Pandey, SYBSc (IT).Total Participants were 44.

Elocution Competition was organized under the Umbrella of “Panch Pran” an initiative by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

11.An Industrial visit was organized for the MSc ( Sem IV) learners at the Medley Pharmaceuticals , located at Andheri on 30th January, 2023. The purpose of this visit was to get the learners familiar with the several steps involved in the analysis of drug synthesis.Total Participants were 30.

12.Awareness programme was organized on “Benefits of NABL Accreditation” on 1st February, 2023. The Guest Speakers were Ms Mallika Gope, Director NABL and Mr Ram Prasath. The speakers introduced to the audience the need for NABL accreditation, its requirements and the us benefits to the organization.Total Participants were 122 .

13.Guest Lecture was organized on “Applications of Chromatography in Pharmaceuticals” by Dr. Krishna Deshpande, Research Associate, Akum Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Ltd. On 4th February,2023. The speaker explained the various processes involved in drug development and emphasized the use of Chromatography in the qualitative as well as the quantitative matrix involved in drug efficacy.Total Participants were 97.

14.Guest lecture was organized on “Importance of Millets” By Dr. Prajakta Badve, Senior Dietician, H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital on 8th February, 2023. This lecture was organized as part of the declaration by WHO to observe 2023 as the international year of Millets. The speaker pointed out the importance of millets for an healthy life with suitable nutritional information.Total Participants were 93.

15.An Industrial visit was organized for the TYBSc ( Sem VI) learners at the P.D. Hinduja Hospital on 15th February, 2023. The purpose of this visit was to get the learners acquainted with the various Post Graduate Job Oriented Courses organized by the organization. A Visit to P. D. Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai for T.Y.B.Sc. learners

16.Interdepartmental Chemistry Festival ( Chemtastic-2023) was organised on 24th and 25th February 2023.Various events were organised under this Festival wherein 14 Contingents participated. The Seven events were 1. Mind Scribble.2.Experimenting with thoughts. 3. Be a Bibliophile 4. Picasso alert 5.Talkology 6. Clueminati 7.Scientist got Talent. The Contingent Lithium of FYBSc (Biotechnology) won the award of the Best Contingent. Total Participants were 332.

17.Laboratory Visit was organized to NMIMS School of Sciences for TYBSc Sem VI learners on 4th March, 2023. The learners were demonstrated with the working of Various instruments such as FTIR, NMR, UV, GC and many more. Total Participants were 34.

18.Guest lecture was organized on “Women Empowerment Through Education” by Dr. Zarin Sethna, Head, Department of Psychology, Patkar College on 23rd March, 2023. The Speaker spoke about the importance of education in molding the personality of women in the modern era. Total participants were 52.

19.Online Chemistry Aptitude test –“National Chemistry Proficiency Test- Rasayan” was organized on 17th April, 2023 at the Under-Graduate as well as Post-Graduate level.Total Participants at UG level were 93 and  at PG level were 46

1.Chinmay Chavan and Rohit Rai of TYBSc attented Youth Convecation dedicated to Swami Vivekanand at Ramkrishna Mission, Mumbai on 30th July 2022. 

2.Varsha Chobisa (TYBSc) secured Second Runner Up position in Basketball (Girls) at Yuva Premier League held on 18th& 19th November,2022.

3.Shakti Singh (TYBSc) and Honey Parmar (TYBSc) secured Second Position in Janjatiya Gaurav Divas, a PPT competition organized by the department of Commerce on 19th November,2022.

4.Tanu Singh (TYBSc) participated in the District Round of Jigyasa to celebrate 75 years of Independence.Secured Third Place in “Nana Rup Nana Bhasha” Bhasha Divas on 12th December,2022.

5.Manish Devasi (TYBSc) successfully undergone internship training at Waycool Foods & Products Pvt. Ltd.  from 7th February,2023 to 10th April,2023.

6.Amaan Ghanchi (TYBSc) successfully undergone internship training in CRD – Synthesis department of IPCA laboratories from 20th February,2023 to 19th April,2023

7.Bhagyashree Choudhary (TYBSc) secured the First Position in “Millets Magic” cooking competition organized by the department of Commerce on 28th February, 2023.

8.Sanket Dhadve (TYBSc) successfully undergone internship training in CRD – Synthesis department of IPCA laboratories from 13th March, 2023 to 12th May,2023

9.Esha Taare of TYBSc won the consolation prize in the State Level online Chemistry Quiz Competition organized by ASC’s College, Pune on 27th March,2023.

10.Vivek Gupta Cleared IIT JAM Chemistry, 2023 and securing the All Indian Rank of 787 .

11.Ms Sana Kazi and Mr.Sagar Sharma (MSc, Organic Chemistry) successfully undergone internship training in the food and water department,Testex Laboratories.

12.Mr Jayesh Mahagaonkar was selected as a Summer Trainee in Application lab,Perstorp Chemicals India Private Limited.
