Department of Zoology - Activities & Events in 2022-23

1. On the occasion of world Environment Day Department of Zoology has organised online Guest Lecture on Climate Change and our Sustainability by Dr. Prakash D. Raut, Former Head, Department of Environmental Science, Shivaji University, Kolhapur on 6th June 2022 at 12.00 noon. Around 35 students have participated in the lecture.

2. Department has organised Guest lecture on Herpato-fauna: Awareness on 20th July 2022 at 12.00 noon by Mr. Jagdish vakhale and Mr. Kerry D’souza, faculty of Junior  College. 26students of T.Y.B.Sc. Zoology and M.Sc. Zoology has attended the session.

3. Zoology Department in Collaboration with Nature Club Tree Plantation drives in Sanjay Gandhi National Park on 07.08.2022. Three Faculty members and 15 students have participated in the Tree plantation drive in the National park in collaboration with Mumbai March and SGNP. 

4. Zoology Department and Equal Opportunity Cell in Collaboration with Brahma Kumaries   has organized Guest lecture on “ Positive in and Out” by Mr. B.K. Srnidhi Bhai, Deputy Manager, Training and Development, Global Hospital Research Centre on 30th July 2022 at 9.30 a.m.. 490 students from S.Y./T.Y. B.Sc./ B.Com and self-Finance Courses have attended session. Speaker has given ideas how to think positive during the different emotional conditions in our life. If we start thinking positively from our mind definitely our action becomes positive.

5. On the occasion of 75th Year of our Independence we are celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav the Zoology Department in Collaboration with Botany and Physics Department has organized Poster making Competition on  the 10th August 2022. We have received 70 posters on the theme. Judges Mr.  Jagdish Vakhale and Mrs. Lalitha Kamat from Junior College. 

6. On the occasion of Swachhata Pakhwada declared by UGC, New Delhi Department of Zoology in Collaboration Department of EVS, FC and Department of Botany organized a guest Lecture on Swachhata Abhiyan on 15th September 2022 by Mrs. Rashmi. 290 students participated in the Guest lecture.

7. Guest lecture by Dr. Deepak Apte in collaboration with Nature Club and Srushti Foundation on dated 26 Aug. 2022 at 05:00 PM. 46 students have participated in the meeting.

Guest lecture by Dr. Deepak Apte in collaboration with Nature Club and Srushti Foundation on the occasion of “World Wildlife Week” dated 01 Oct. 2022 at 04:00 PM. 60 students have participated in the meeting. The resource person delivered talk on Endangered species and conservation programs of the Government of India.

10. On the Occasion of International Tiger Day Zoology  Department in Collaboration with Nature Club Organized online Guest Lecture on “ Man Wild Conflict” by Mr. Jaydeep Patil, Research Fellow, Wild Life Institute of India( WII), Dehradun on 20th July 2022. 75 students has participated from degree Science and Commerce.

     

Field Visits

1. BNHS Visit: Department of Zoology conducted visit on 16th Dec. 2022 of TY B. Sc. students to BNHS, Mumbai for the. Dr. Rahul Khot (Deputy Director) guided to the students regarding importance of preservation of specimens and spoke about the role of students in the conservation of Biodiversity. Total 18 students were actively participated in the same visit.

2. Sassoon Dock visit: Department of Zoology conducted visit on 19th Nov. 2022 to Sassoon dock, Mumbai. Dr. Rupesh Yadav guided to the students regarding importance of fish markets, Fish capturing, Fish processing. A positive interaction was made between students and fisherman regarding modern capturing techniques. Total 10 students were actively participated in the same visit

1. Department has organized India-US International Climate Change Conference on International Conference on ‘Impact Study of Climate Change and Air Quality for Sustainable Goals" on Date : 13th January 2023 In Collaboration with  Bronx Community College (BCC) of the City University of New York (CUNY) City College of New York (CCNY) of the City University of New York (CUNY) And  Indian Peninsular River Basin Council, SKECT's WWW Jalsanjeevani  Chief Guest was Dr. Randa Risk. 305 delegates have participated from different countries like United States of America, Australia, Egypt, Russia, and all over the country.

2. Department has Organized Two Days National Conference on Environment and Biodiversity (NCEB – 2023) on in Collaboration with Academy of Environmental Biology, The National Institute of Wind Energy (NEWE) , Chennai and Bio Vision Charitable Trust on dated 27th and 28th January 2023.

3. Department has organized Online meeting of  renowned Heads, Department of Zoology on Zoom in Zoology-2022 on dated  17.12.2022 at 4.00 pm. Heads from different collages participated in the meeting and shared recent updates  in the subject of Zoology.Dr. Shantaj Deshbharater Dr. Manda Mhatre, Dr. Vinod Narayane, Dr. Sushil Choudhari, Dr. G.D. Suryawanshi, Dr. Sanjay Kumbhar, Prof. Vitthal Dandawate  Dr. Rupali Vaity has participated in the meeting.

11. Department launched Biodiversity calendar for the year 2023. All eleven phylum’s  month wise is been included with 365 species. Department is coming with the copyright and Patent of the same.   

Students Achievements

1. Purva Thumbe Has Been Selected for M. Sc. Oceanography, at university of Southampton in UK for 2022 -2023.

2. Mr. Ayesh Kandri M.Sc. Zoology (Oceanography) has won Gold Medal in Indian Open world cup chess Boxing Competition  held at Calcutta, India dated 12th to 15th of August 2022.  

3. Mr. Ayesh Kandri M.Sc. Zoology (Oceanography) has won west Zone National Gold chess Boxing Competition held at Salem, Tamil Nadu on dated 9th to 12th May 2022.

4. Miss. Saniya Shaikh Won Gold medal at University Level for Judo tournament on dated 1st Octo. 2022. And Bronze medal at Zonal level on 7th Oct. 2022.

5. Mr. Manas More of S.Y.B.Sc. CZ has own Kike Boxing Bronze at National level held at Jodhpur, Rajasthan  on dated March 

6. Mr. Manas More of S.Y.B.Sc. CZ  has own Gold Medal at district level held at Goregaon E, on dated.

7. Juhi and Piyush of T.Y.B.Sc. Zoology won Gold and Silver medal in Zonal and Inter Zonal level Yoga Championship of University of Mumbai. Held on 12th December 2022. At

8. Department has conducted offline parents meeting for the T.Y.B.Sc. Zoology students on dated 19.11.2022 at 10.30 am. 21 parents have participated in the meeting.

1. 10 Students of M.Sc. part –I and M.Sc. Part-II Zoology (Oceanography) has participated in Chala Januja Nadiala on dated 04th and 5th of January 2023.

2. Students from F.Y. / S.Y. T.Y. B.Sc. Zoology and M.Sc. Zoology ( Oceanography) part-I and Part-II have participated in GIS mapping and river marking of Mithi river in Collaboration with MPCB, Forest Department, Solid Waste management Team and SKECTS  WWW Jalsanjivani on dated 10.02.2023 and 11.02.2023. 41 students have participated in the GIS mapping.  

Marine Museum

1. Marine Fish Museum: To enhance student’s interest and to impart awareness about importance of marine fauna, department of Zoology initiated the practice of scientific preservation of fishes. During this attempt, learners of M. Sc. – II were actively participated and successfully preserved more 30 marine fish specimens under the guidance of Dr. Rupesh Yadav.

2. Bird Photography Wall: To enhance student’s interest and awareness about the bird fauna and Herpato fauna, Department of Zoology displayed Bird photography wall in Zoology practical lab. Students from junior college, Senior College as well as faculties from college and outside are taking the benefits of the same activity.  In photography wall, more than 100 birds and Herpato fauna have been displayed captured in Western Ghats of India. All photography done by Dr. Rupesh Yadav and QR code  made by M. Sc. II year students.
