17.  Report on ‘DESIGN, THINKING, INNOVATIONS & ENTREPRENEURSHIP’ FDP

(28th August – 1st September 2024)

The five day Faculty Development Program (FDP) on ‘Design, Thinking, Innovations & Entrepreneurship’ provided participants with a holistic approach to problemsolving, ideation, and entrepreneurship, empowering them with essential tools to think creatively and develop entrepreneurial solutions.

Day 1: Inauguration & Program Introduction

The first day started with a formal inauguration followed by an overview of the five day program. Participants received common instructions about the campus. A campus tour helped familiarize everyone with the layout, providing inspiration for creative thinking.

Day 2: Scattered Dots Design Thinking

The second day introduced the concept of Design Thinking. Participants explored various problemsolving methods using the Scattered Dots Design Thinking approach. They engaged in interactive group activities to identify and list problems across different categories. A key part of the day was selecting the top three problems, drilling down to their root causes, and presenting their findings.

Day 3: Empathy and Problem Definition

On the third day, the focus shifted to Empathy and Problem Definition. Participants were introduced to tools like the Miro Board for collaborative thinking. A group field visit allowed them to observe real world challenges, which they used to define problems and propose initial solutions. The concept of Ideation was introduced, where teams brainstormed possible solutions.

Day 4: Journey of Innovation – Akxy Composter

The day started with an inspiring talk by Sunil Bhondge on the journey of the Akxy Composter Machine developed at Vigyan Ashram, Pabal. The focus was on Prototyping and Entrepreneurship Development, demonstrating how to translate ideas into viable business models. The day concluded with an engaging Octopus Tank session, where participants pitched their ideas and received feedback.

Day 5: Social Entrepreneurship and Feedback

The final day featured Kalyani Chavali, who shared the inspiring journey of Sahrudaya, a social enterprise. Another session on Social Media for EDP by Yogesh Omkar highlighted the role of social media in entrepreneurial development. The program concluded with feedback and suggestions from participants, ensuring continuous improvement for future programs.

ACTION PLAN:

1. Problem Identification & Research:

We will encourage students to identify at least three real world problems within their communities, campuses, or industries.  We will assist them in conducting thorough research to understand the problem, its stakeholders, and its broader impact. We will support students in formulating clear Problem Statements based on their observations, interviews, or surveys.

2. Empathy & Ideation:

We will organize group discussions to help students empathize with the people affected by the problems they’ve identified. We will provide platforms like Miro Board to facilitate brainstorming sessions where students can explore innovative solutions. We will guide students to develop at least 10 potential solutions for each identified problem.

3. Prototyping & Testing:

We will help students select one solution per group for prototyping. We will provide access to materials and resources for building low fidelity prototypes. We will arrange real world testing opportunities and help students gather feedback from actual users, ensuring iterations are made based on the feedback.

4. Entrepreneurship Development:

We will assist students in developing a basic business plan, focusing on market research, pricing, and customer value. We will connect students with mentorship opportunities and local incubators to further refine their entrepreneurial ideas. We will organize Entrepreneurship Development Program (EDP) sessions to help students understand the basics of marketing, finances, and scaling their ventures.

5. Social Media & Outreach:

We will guide students in creating an effective social media strategy to promote their ideas and attract interest. We will encourage students to regularly publish content about their progress, engaging with users and potential investors online. We will provide support in building online communities to gather feedback and support for their projects.

6. Continuous Improvement & Collaboration:
