Induction Programme
Induction Programme “Aarambh- 2023” was organised to welcome the students of First Year Junior College, Commerce and First Year Junior College, Science on 10th August, 2023 and 12th August, 2023 respectively. Dr. (Mrs.) C.T. Chakraborty, Principal, TCSC addressed the newcomers and warmly welcomed them. She briefed them about TCSC’s vision and mission and the importance of human values and ethics in a student’s life. A PowerPoint Presentation was shown introducing the learners to the teachers, departments, examination system, library resources, curricular and extra-curricular activities conducted by TCSC. Aarambh- 2023 helped the teachers and students to set the pace for a fruitful teaching-learning experience.
International Organ Donation
On the occasion of International Organ Donation Day, Rotary Club of Bombay Kandivali in association with TCSC organized a joint awareness drive on “An Awareness Drive on Eye, Skin and Organ Donation” on 12th August, 2023. The event was presided by Rtn. S. Ravichandran, President, Rotary Club of Bombay Kandivali, Rtn. Shakti Avasthi, Secretary, Rotary Club of Bombay Kandivali and other eminent Rotarians. The session was addressed by Rtn. Tribhuvan Kapadia on Organ Donation, Dr. Girish Trivedi on Eye and Skin Donation. The learners were also administered an oath for organ donation at this event which was well attended by 500 junior college science learners.
Department of Physics
“Wonder Gallery” was the demonstration of experiments conducted on 14th August, 2023 based on optics which included formation of images with inclined mirrors, spectrometer, total internal reflection etc. The dynamics of light and darkness demonstrated by the in-house faculty mesmerised as well as helped the learners to understand various concepts in optics. The event was attended by 52 FYJC Science learners.
On the theme of “Sustainable Development”, the department organised a series of activities to sensitise the learners about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A Poster Making Competition showcasing the creative expressions of the learners underlined the importance of the SDGs as well as its impact on the lives of the people. The activity saw an enthusiastic participation from thirteen learners on 26th February, 2024. “Paper Bag Making Activity” was the second activity organised on 27th February, 2024. The activity titled “Empowering Students for Responsible Consumption and Production” saw participation of 53 learners which created awareness about the importance of reducing the usage of single use plastic bags. A sensitisation-rally about SDGs was also organised in the college campus on 29th February, 2024 with 36 learners.
A Skill Development Programme on “Basic Electrical Circuit Designing and Building” was organized wherein 10 sessions were conducted over a period from 17th February to 3rd March, 2024. A total of 26 FYJC Science learners were provided hands-on training on various aspects of electrical and electronic circuit designing to enhance their practical and technical skills. The participants learnt to identify various components like switches, its’ various types, connecting wires, bulb holders, etc. and drew circuits while also building household circuits and electrical extensions.
Department of Chemistry
“CHEMFEST”, the Intra-Departmental Fest of Department of Chemistry and Science Association was organized on 28th July and 3rd August, 2023 based on the theme “Action and Reaction with Chemical Unity”. The objective of the event was to inculcate scientific temper in FYJC Science learners and teach them the importance of Chemistry in their day-to-day life. The event included following activities:
Workshop on Soap Making “Saponification” was organized on 28th July, 2023. A total of 64 learners were involved in making colorful skin friendly soaps using different oils like coconut oil, castor oil etc. On the successful completion of the workshop the Chemistry learners were able to create an assortment of soaps formulated in the Chemistry lab after learning the saponification process on a molecular level.
Testing of pH of Food Samples was conducted on 28th July, 2023 where the learners checked the pH level (acidity and alkalinity) of the different food samples like milk, aerated drinks, lime juice etc. using Universal Indicator and compared their results with the pH chart. A total of 32 learners where taught and demonstrated the theory of pH scale to judge whether a substance is acidic or basic.
Poster Making Competition was held on 3rd August, 2023 for 26 FYJC Science learners based on the themes of Fascinating World of Carbon and Purification Techniques for Organic Compounds. From the colorful and intuitive posters made by the learners the following were adjudged as winners:

A Skill Development Programme of 10 Hours on “Basic Analytical Techniques and Purification Techniques” was conducted for the FYJC Science learners in the month of January and February, 2024. A total of 55 leaners were helped to develop a strong sense of scientific temper and inculcate the research attitude. The learners enthusiastically participated in various analytical and purification methods namely water analysis, solvent extraction, distillation, saponification of oil and preparation of bio plastics. Subsequently, learners were evaluated through an online test and were awarded certificates.
Department of Biology
An activity on “Water Conservation” was organised on 30th August, 2023 which included Poster and Slogan Writing and Awareness Drive in Laboratories and Classrooms. The objective of the programme was to create awareness to minimize water pollution, reduce wastage and improve public health. A total of 57 learners of SYJC (Science) participated in the event.

A Skill Development Programme of 10 hours on “Best Out of Waste” was conducted from 1st March, 2024 to 5th March, 2024 for 26 FYJC (Science) learners. The programme aimed at reusing wastes like wax, wastepaper, ice cream sticks etc. to make lanterns and candles.
Department of Computer Science and Electronics
The Department of Computer Science and Electronics organized a Seminar on “Fundamental Concepts of IoT” on 6th October, 2023 at Thakur College of Engineering & Technology (TCET), Mumbai with 38 participating learners from F.Y.J.C. and S.Y.J.C. Computer Science Department, TCSC. The Resource Person Dr. Sujata Alegavi, Associate Professor and Head of Department- IoT, TCET provided a glimpse into the future of IoT by highlighting the emerging trends, innovation and potential advancements in this rapidly evolving field. The learners presented their academic projects and visited the IoT lab at TCET for a hands-on training.
A Power Point Presentation Competition was organised on 15th October, 2023 on the topics of Bullying and Cyber Bullying and Virtual World: A Curse or Boon. A total of 22 FYJC and SYJC (Science) teams participated in this competition and the following winners were declared:

A Skill Development Programme was conducted on “Python for Beginners” from 5th to 10th February, 2024 for FYJC (Science) learners. A 10-hours Online Workshop on Python was undertaken. Through the process of learning Python as a compatible programming language for machine learning, data science and artificial intelligence, the learners strengthened their skills and abilities which can be utilized in other academic disciplines like Mathematics, Languages etc. The Course was successfully completed by 41 learners.
Department of Information Technology
An Event on “Website Designing using HTML5 and CSS” on topics such as Environmental Issues and Protection, Enterprise, Company, Business Ideas and Future of AI was held on 28th October, 2023 for SYJC (Science and Commerce) learners. The objective of the event was to inspire the learners to test their knowledge and skills in Web Designing. Web designing being a promising career option, this event also aimed to prepare the participants for an exciting future ahead. A total of 25 participants were shortlisted for the event.

Competition on Presentation Using Libre Office Impress on topics such as Artificial Intelligence: It’s Pros and Cons, Save Earth- Save Life and Business Proposal Presentation: A Product Launch and Presentation on any Company Profile was held on 23rd December, 2023 for FYJC (Science and Commerce) learners. The objective of the event was to enhance the presentation skills of the learners for developing their soft skills. A total of 29 participants were shortlisted for the event.

A Skill Development Program on “Impressive Web Designing” was organized for 30 FYJC (Science and Commerce) learners from 23rd February to 1st March, 2024. The 10- hours program aimed to empower learners by offering necessary skills and practical training in Website development using HTML5 and CSS. The program covered HTML and CSS coding skills at a basic level to help candidates gain proficiency for Website Development.
Department of Mathematics (Science)
Department of Mathematics (Science) and Science Association jointly organised “Maths Week” from 25th to 30th September, 2023. The objective of the competition was to help the participants apply a variety of problem-solving techniques to improve their analytical skills and develop positive inclination towards the subject. Problem Questions and their solutions were uploaded by the 208 participating learners on the designated link followed by discussions on the same.

Department of Mathematics (Commerce)
An Intra-Collegiate Competition titled “Mathematics Collaboration Carnival” was organized on 23rd October, 2023. The competition included Solving Rubik’s Cube, Number Games, Diagonal Move and a Mental Ability Test. The objective of the competition was to encourage students to take ownership of their learning, working as a team besides improving their problem-solving skills, concentration levels and cognitive ability. A Career Guidance Seminar on “Data Science” was conducted by the Department of Mathematics (Science and Commerce) on 29th January, 2024. This seminar was organised in the light of the rising prospective career choices in predictive analytics, machine learning, data visualization, recommendation system, fraud detection, sentiment analysis and, decision making in the field of healthcare, finance, marketing, technology etc. A total of 136 learners of FYJC (Science and Commerce) were benefitted from this career guidance session.
SilverZone Foundation in collaboration with Thakur College of Science & Commerce (Autonomous), Mumbai had organized the International Olympiad of Mathematics (iOM) on 2nd December, 2023. It provided an opportunity to ignite the imagination of the 23 participating students by enabling them showcase their true potential. The objective of this competition was to enhance the student’s logical reasoning, analytical and problem-solving skills to succeed in an increasingly competitive world.

A Skill Development Programme on “Competition Management and Analysis” was organised by Department of Mathematics (Science and Commerce) from 17th to 29th February, 2024. The 10-hours series of sessions by Mr. Jainish Gotecha, Founder CEO Manzil, TCSC Alumni and Faculty at Joshi Bedekar College, Thane and L.N. College, Borivali aimed at empowering the learners with skill sets which are required to be relevant and productive in today’s competitive environment. FYJC (Science & Commerce) learners were given insights on competition management and analysis along with developing their job interview skills, leadership qualities, time management, resume writing, elocution and debating skills to excel at the work place. The course was successfully completed by 40 learners.
Department of Book-Keeping and Accountancy
Career Guidance Seminar for “Chartered Accountancy (CA)/ Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)/ Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Courses” was organized on 27th October, 2023 for approximately 200 SYJC Commerce learners. The Resource Person for the session, CA Nisarg Desai guided all the learners about various career prospects after class 12th standard. He also gave detailed guidelines about the eligibility, registration, exam pattern, and time duration for completion of CA, ACCA, CFA courses.
A Seminar on “Various Course Options after HSC” was organized on 24th February, 2024 for the FYJC Commerce Learners. The event was well received by 150 learners as the Resource Person provided insights about various career options, courses and professional Undergraduate programs like BMS, BAF, BBI etc. A comprehensive review was given to the participants regarding choosing the right career path and excelling in the chosen field of interest.
Skill Development Programme on “Accounting Package” was conducted from 15th to 29th February, 2024. The objective of this 10-hour programme was to increase the proficiency of the learners in practically using the Tally ERP Software for business management and accounting. A total of 25 students attended the sessions and successfully cleared the exam.
Department of Economics
“Short Film Making, Power Point Presentation and Skit Competition” on the theme “Inclusive Development- Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas” was organized on 1st September, 2023 where the learners creatively expressed themselves on issues concerning the socio-politico-economic landscape of the country and the role of youth in fostering the spirit of nationalism and brotherhood amongst the people. The competition was successful in fostering the feeling of creativity, patriotism, unity and integrity among the 100 participants. Skill Development Programme of 10 hours on “Soft Skill, Professional Skill, Communication Skill, Management Skill and Personality Development” was organized from 27th January to 1st February, 2024. The sessions aimed to create an enhanced awareness and development of soft skills in professional and inter-personal communications to facilitate all-round personality development of the participants. These interactive and activity-based think tank sessions were well attended by 60 students who completed the course after clearing the test.

With India taking the Presidency of 2023 G20 summit, aiming to work together with G20 countries to bridge gaps in quality education and skilling under the theme of “One Earth One Family One Future”, Department of Organisation of Commerce and Management and Department of Secretarial Practice jointly conducted the following events:
A Poster Making Competition on the theme “G20 Nations” was organised on 14th August, 2023. The session aimed to showcase the creative prowess of the learners and highlighted the importance of each member nation. The following winners were declared:

As a part of the experiential learning, the “G20 Summit” was conducted on 22nd August, 2023 with 21 Delegates representing G20 members countries and a guest country. The event was inaugurated and judged by Mrs. Beena Charan, Principal, Bal Bharati’s M.J. Pancholia College of Commerce, Mumbai and Dr. Pratibha N. Jha, Principal, NSM Trust’s Nitin Godiwala Junior College of Commerce, Mumbai. Highlights of the G20 Summit included Power Point Presentations by the respective delegate countries representing their economic issues and combat strategies, matters of sustainability, impact of climate change, role of international trade in economic growth and development, poverty reduction and reduction of inflation. This was followed by a Question-and-Answer Session by the judges and fellow delegate members. The thought-provoking and intellectually stimulating session saw following delegates being adjudged as winners:

Three days Skill Development Programme on “Scope of Entrepreneurship” was organized from 7th to 9th February, 2024 to nurture the talent of the students by enlightening them on various aspects of industrial and business activity and to develop their entrepreneurial abilities. A total of 96 students benefitted from this programme.
Department of Secretarial Practice
Career Guidance Guest Lecture on “Company Secretary: Explore your Wings through CS Profession” was jointly organised by the TCSC Counselling Cell, Department of B.Com (Accounting & Finance), Degree College and Department of Secretarial Practice and Department of Organisation of Commerce and Management, Junior College on 7th December, 2023. The Resource Person Ms. Vimala Valji Jogadia, Senior Executive Assistant, The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), The Western India Regional Council (WIRC), Mumbai gave detailed information about the Company Secretary (CS) course, its eligibility criteria, scope and career prospects. She apprised the 110 participating students about the CS’s Strategic Key Managerial Personnel (KMP) role who is entrusted with the responsibility of the company’s Corporate Governance.
Skill Development Programme on “Introduction to Securities Markets and Mutual Funds” was conducted from 13th to 15th February, 2024. The 10-hour sessions were engaged by industry experts and were successfully completed by 103 students. The Resource Person for Day 1 and Day 2, Mr. Varad Kulkarni, Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) Trainer, Ambition Learning Solutions, Mumbai oriented the participants about Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), Follow-on Public Offer (FPO), Application Supported by Blocked Amount (ASBA) scheme and Mutual Funds. Mr. Smit Somaiya, State Head for Partnership Distribution and Emerging Vertical Channel, Shriram Life Insurance, Mumbai was the Resource Person for Day 3. He enlightened the participants about the process and benefits of Dematerialisation and demystified the Stock Market to make the most strategic trading decisions. The sessions concluded with a test that was successfully undertaken by the participants.
Department of Environment Education
Department of Environment Education (Science and Commerce) jointly organized an outdoor activity “Tree Plantation by Sowing Seeds” with 57 SYJC students at Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), Mumbai on 26th August, 2023. The aim of this activity was to orient the students about the rich natural biodiversity which provides a safe habitat for several indigenous plant and animal species at SGNP. The motivated group of students were also sensitized about environmental conservation while they planted different varieties of seeds and saplings of various fruits and flowers.
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India had organized National Students Paryavaran Competition 2023 (NSPC) under the aegis of Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi (PSG). In this context, the Department of Environment Education (Science and Commerce), Junior College and Department of Environmental Studies and Foundation Course, Degree College jointly organized an Online Quiz Competition. It was conducted for Degree College learners on 2nd August, 2023, for FYJC (Science) learners on 4th August, 2023, for SYJC (Science) learners from 6th to 8th August, 2023 and for FYJC and SYJC (Commerce) learners on 7th August, 2023. The quiz aimed at creating an awareness amongst the students regarding environmental conservation and to comprehend the complexity of the looming dangers of uncontrolled climate devastation. A remarkable number of 4,013 learners from Thakur College of Science & Commerce (Autonomous), Mumbai participated and were duly awarded with e-certificates on 27th August, 2023.
It was a proud moment as Thakur College of Science and Commerce (Autonomous), Mumbai secured 5th Position at the All-India Level in the National Students Paryavaran Competition 2023 (NSPC). Dr. (Mrs.) C.T. Chakraborty, Principal, TCSC was felicitated by Shri Rakesh Jain, Akhil Bharatiya Seh Sanyojak, Paryavaran evam Jal Sanrakshan Gatividhi, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh on 12th September, 2023 for this outstanding achievement. The felicitation ceremony was followed by Mr. Rakesh Jain’s mesmerizing talk on possible solutions for the environmental problems and the importance of planting and preserving trees.
Department of English
An Elocution Competition was organized on 9th November, 2023 to test the oratory skills of the Junior (Science and Commerce) learners on various contemporary topics affecting the society. A total of eighteen participants voiced their opinions and the following learners were adjudged as winners:

“The International Olympiad of English Language (iOEL)” is an annual examination which tests students’ skills and knowledge of the English language. Over the years the Department has been actively promoting this examination which is conducted in association with Silverzone Foundation. This platform enabled the students to enhance their reasoning, logical, analytical and problem-solving skills in a highly competitive and global environment with a view to build a solid foundation for National and Competitive Examinations. This year too, the department saw participation from 22 FYJC and SYJC learners on 30th November, 2023. The following were adjudged as the winners at different levels.

“Search for Researcher” was the event jointly organised by Department of Physics and Science Association to explore and develop the research aptitude amongst the learners on 14th August, 2023. The session witnessed 52 FYJC learners conducting a variety of experiments on different concepts of Physics. The session sparked curiosity amongst the learners in the exciting field of Physics.
Department of Biology and Science Association jointly organized a field visit to Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), Borivali for 41 learners of SYJC (Science) on 27th August, 2023. Under the initiative “Tree Plantation: Save Mother Earth” 40 saplings were planted, and fencing was done for the trees at SGNP. This visit aimed at promoting awareness about the importance of saving trees and Mother Earth.
A Seminar on “Trends and Technology” was jointly organised by the Department of Computer Science, Electronics & Information Technology and Science Association on 9th January, 2024. The Resource Person Mr. Rohit Beohar, Vice President of Strategic Sales, Expertrons Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai in his Keynote address spoke in detail about the latest technologies and its applications to the 387 FYJC (Science and Commerce) learners in attendance.

Nature Club
A “Nature and Wildlife Photography Competition” was conducted on 21st October, 2023 to celebrate this genre of photography. A total of 194 student photographers showcased their creativity and skill as they unveiled the hidden beauty of nature through their visual images.

A Talk show on “Herpetofauna” was organized on 30th January, 2024 to understand its importance as important indicators of an ecosystem’s health and its contribution to biodiversity. The resource person explored various topics like reptile identification, reptile adaptations and their survival strategies. The speaker vividly described about the amazing species of reptiles and busted various myths associated with snakes. The session was well attended by 144 students who got an opportunity to enjoy a hands-on learning experience with an Iguana and baby cobra.
Swami Vivekananda Committee
“A Thought of Swami Vivekananda that Inspires Me” was an exciting short speech competition organized on 4th October, 2023. A total of 22 participants selected a quote of Swami Vivekananda that inspired them and expressed their views on the same. The aim of the competition was to generate interest among the students regarding the life, teachings and philosophy of Swami Vivekananda who was a testament of the transformative power of education.

As a part of the National Youth Day Celebrations, a visit to the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Khar, Mumbai was organized on 12th January, 2024 to celebrate Swami Vivekananda’s thoughts and contributions. A team of 30 students visited the Math and participated in the day-long celebrations on this occasion to celebrate the Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda who impacted the Indian consciousness both in his time and thereafter. Highlights of the event included sessions on Bhagavad Geeta, Nation Building, Incredible Bharat, Indian Spiritualism and Swami Vivekananda’s Perspective on Yoga.

Junior College (Science and Commerce) organized a Faculty Development Program TEACH -TECH # Empower, Enhance, Enable, Engage on 15th April, 2024. Thw Chief Guest was Dr. Ghansham Giri, Principal, Thakur Shyamnarayan Degree College, Kandivali.
The FDP comprised of 3 sessions viz. Session 1 ‘Understanding the Psychology of students’ by Dr. Eshita Mandal, Psychologist and Behavioral trainer. Session 2 ‘Inclusive Education - the need of time’ by Mr. Thomas Adaikalam, Senior Manager, Kotak Education Foundation, Mumbai. Session 3 ‘Innovation in Teaching’ by Mrs. Sabiha More, Associate Professor, Gandhi Shikshan Bhavan's Surajba College of Education.
