WEBINAR REPORT : ‘SAY NO TO CRACKERS'

The Department of Environment Education (Junior College) organized a Webinar to create an awareness about harmful effects caused by bursting of crackers for the Junior College students on 01st November 2021.

Topic : ” SAY NO TO CRACKERS “

Venue : Online Platform (ZOOM) Time : 5:00 PM - 6:15 PM

The Resource person and Speaker for the event was Ms Rashmi Joshi. Her qualifications include M.A in Greek Philosophy and is NET qualified.She has worked as lecturer at Ruparel College , Khalsa Degree College & Government Law College , Mumbai University.

She is working as an Environment Consultant since last 10 Years, focussing mainly on E-waste collection drive, Seed ball making, Composting and Kitchen gardening .

She is recipient of Naari Swashakti Puraskaar,Prasar Bharti award for work in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and has been felicitated by Thane Municipal Corporation as well as by F/North Ward of MCGM. She is involved in various Social work too.

The Webinar was attended by 274 participants varying from both Science and Commerce streams.

Ms. Rashmi Joshi explained the effects of bursting of Crackers which not only creates Noise Pollution but also leads to Air pollution and Water pollution.

She emphasised about the different types of toxic compounds released while bursting crackers which may have heavy metals, and can thus affect the health of people of almost every age group. The effect may be mild to severe and can persist for longer duration also.

Ms Rashmi Joshi sensitised the participants about the impact of Noise Pollution not only on children, old people, patients but on birds and animals too.

She discussed about different Laws and Government bodies which help to control Pollution by introducing various rules and regulations.

She also guided us on how to celebrate Diwali joyfully and safely without using crackers.

At the end a number of interesting questions were asked by participants and convincingly answered by the speaker.

It was indeed an enlightening session for all of us.

OBJECTIVE OF THE ACTIVITY:

  1. Elocutions completion helps build on communication skills:

  2. Elocution plays an important role in the formation, articulation and pronunciation of speech . 3) Elocution competitions help students to develop their self-expression and confidence.

4) Environmental science enlightens us on how to conserve our environment in the face of increasing human population growth and anthropogenic activities that degrade natural resources and ecosystems.

SCIENCE INNOVATION 2021


‘ Changes call for innovation and innovation leads to progress'.


 The Junior Science Department of Thakur College of Science and Commerce organised ‘Science Innovation 2021’ on 4th December 2021 for FYJC and SYJC Science students .

The objective of the programme was to provide a platform to the young enthusiastic students whereby they could showcase their innovative ideas and scientific temper .

This was achieved when 41 exemplary innovative working models were presented by 168 participants which were made under the guidance of their teachers and were visited by around 3000 keen students .

The ceremony commenced at 11:30 a.m by the cutting of the ribbon by our esteemed trustee Shri Jitendra Singh ji and Respected Principal Dr. Mrs.Chaitali Chakraborty who were accompanied by the  judges Dr. Sanjay Shukla, Mr.Vipul Purohit and Dr.Shirley Agwuocha .

The contestants were filled with enthusiasm by the motivating words said by Principal.

The physics and biology labs were stunningly decorated by the students themselves . The photographers were all set with their cameras to click the pictures and record clips of the students , explaining flawlessly and confidently about their projects.

The students and other visitors were inspired by the exhibits and found them very informative and could observe the application of various scientific laws and principles through the displayed working    models .

The judges were all praise to see the determined attempt of the students in making their models future proof and useful .All the participants were congratulated for their great efforts .

OUTREACH AND SCIENCE INNOVATION EXHIBITION

 ‘ Changes call for innovation and innovation leads to progress'



The Junior Science and Commerce Department of Thakur College of Science and Commerce organised Outreach and ‘Science Innovation 2021’ for school students of std .9 th and std.10 th.


On the occasion of 25 Glorious years of TCSC and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav ( 75 years of India’s Independence) this event was successfully conducted on 23rd Dec 2021.

41 exemplary innovative working models were presented by 168 participants which were made under the guidance of their teachers and were visited by 638 std.9 and std.10 students from 13 schools of ICSE and State Board . 40 teachers from various schools accompanied the students.


The objective of the program was to inculcate scientific temper, create curiosity and it provided a platform for young enthusiastic students to showcase their innovative ideas.

The inauguration ceremony was held at 11:30 a.m by the cutting of the ribbon by our esteemed teacher invitees from schools and Respected Principal Dr. Mrs.Chaitali Chakraborty


The students were addressed by Respected Principal Madam, Dr. Mrs. Chaitali Chakraborty. She encouraged students to study well and create a successful future for themselves. Madam guided students about having informed choices, develop skills and pursue higher goals ahead in their lives. The presentation about Career as well as college video was presented to the visiting school students .

The visiting school students were inspired by the exhibits and found them very informative and could observe the application of various scientific laws and principles through the displayed working models.


The students were taken on a campus tour , including the college library.

The school teachers were all praise to see the determined attempt of the students in making their models future proof and useful .All the participants were congratulated for their great efforts


The school students and teachers provided a very positive feedback about their experience at the college.

Webinar: Importance of Shrimad Bhagwat Gita in youngster’s life.

Report

Department of mathematics (junior science) conducted a webinar on “Importance of Shrimad Bhagwat Gita in youngster’s life” on 31/08/2021 from 4pm – 5pm which was attended by 206 participants. The resource person, Dr. Ravikant Balkrishna Sangurde, Member of Senate &Management Council, University of Mumbai brought out the essence of Bhagwat Gita through the different shlokas in various chapters. The ways to see our soul thereby seek God through meditation and study of scriptures was well explained. The composition of the Gross body through five elements: earth, air,water, fire and ether. The God’s energy is visualized in two ways first  as mind, false ego and intelligence as Inferior material energy and second as sat(eternal), cit(full of knowledge and anand( full of bliss) also known as superior spiritual energy. The subtle body is developed by our mind, false ego and intelligence through the experiences gained by an individual.  The imperishable nature of the Soul was also brought out explicitly. Hence it is important for everyone including the students not to get carried away by small achievements or failures but focus on bigger ideals. This was explained on the basis of shlokas 2:20, 3:27 and 6:29, 62, 63 of Gita.

Computer Science And Electronics Department


Event :  Guest lecture on “Gender Sensitization”.

 The department of Computer Science and electronics (Junior Science) of Thakur College of Science and Commerce had conducted a webinar for S.Y.J.C. Science students on the topic “Gender Sensitization" on  1st Sept., 2021 at 4:30p.m. using the Online platform - Zoom . 


The objective of the webinar was to bring attitudinal changes in students to achieve Gender Equality and make society gender friendly.  


Dr. Prachi  Moghe,  who is Ph.D (Ancient Indian Culture ) and Professor (Archaeology), Centre for Extra-Mural Studies, University of Mumbai was the Speaker for the event. More than 200 participants were present for the webinar. Students and Junior Science college teachers attended the webinar.

The webinar started with a welcome address by Ms. Pallavi Bhamre.

She also introduced the Guest to the participants. Thereafter the session was conducted by Prof. Dr. Prachi Moghe wherein with the help of ppt she explained difference between Gender and Sex. She talked about relations between men and women in society and to understand the importance of affording women and men equally opportunities and treatment. Some of the issues of Gender  Equality  discussed with the participants like  

  • Should a housewife get a salary?

  • How will gender equality benefit men? Etc.

Students  actively and  wholeheartedly participated in the discussion .

The session was very interactive, informative and fruitful. The session encouraged students to initiate a thought process among themselves towards 

Gender  Sensitization.

The participants gave their valuable feedback on the session conducted .


A vote of thanks was given by Mr. Satyendra Mishra. The session was concluded with a beautiful poem  by Ms.Pallavi Bhamre.

Webinar on “ Ethical Hacking – New Age of IT Career”

 The department of Computer Science and electronics (Junior Science) of Thakur College of Science and Commerce had conducted a webinar for S.Y.J.C. Science students on the topic “Ethical Hacking – New Age of IT” on  6th Sept., 2021 at 4:30p.m. using the Online platform - Zoom . 

 

The webinar objective was to expose the  students to the basics of  Ethical Hacking , role of  Ethical Hacker and a career in Ethical hacking.


Mr. Vaibhav Khanderao  who is dedicated Educational trainer with 3+ years of experience in training field of Ethical Hacking, Cyber Security, Awareness of cyber crime, conducted the webinar.

The speaker was introduced  by Mr.Satyendra Mishra. A brief introduction of the college and its achievements was given by Ms. Pallavi Bhamre .


The speaker said it is a matter of great concern that more and more organizations are being targeted in cyber-attacks, and it is important that we get to know our enemy if we are to protect  networks. He pointed out that one of the most in-demand positions in the field of technology is that of an ethical hacker. He also gave information about some online learning resources available for hacking.

The talk was attended by more than 200 participants.

The webinar overall provided the audience with a new domain of career in modern world and a wholesome knowledge about Ethical Hacking and its importance.

The last part of the webinar included a questionnaire from the audience about the career in Ethical Hacking

The participants gave their valuable feedback at the end of  the session. 

The session was concluded with a Vote of thanks by Ms. Sadaf Ansari.

Overall the webinar was very interesting and informative.

 “A JOURNEY TO GOD PARTICLE - MY EXPERIENCES AT CERN”


Department of Physics (junior) had organized the webinar for the students and teachers of Thakur College of Science and Commerce on 18th September 2021 from 5pm to 6pm on zoom platform. Nearly 120 people had participated in the webinar.

Resource person for the webinar was Ms. Anupama Kulkarni, Senior Scientist, BARC. 

KEYNOTES OF THE WEBINAR ARE AS FOLLOWS:

  • Webinar was based on LARGE HADRON COLLIDER.

  • Madam briefed us about particle accelerator, types of particle accelerator, meaning of LHC and its use, where it is placed, its working, important elements of LHC, types particle detectors.

  • Highlight of the event was a video depicting the process how charges are accelerated at different stages and separated to set them on a collision course.

  • Precise information of the different apparatus being maintained at a depth of 170 m below ground and at a superconducting temperature by Indian scientists at work was inspiring enough for students as well as teachers as to how each sincere effort taken by scientists and engineers led to this multibillion dollar project

  • Many applications of LHC like medical, industrial , in national security, pharmaceutical research, food preservation, to develop materials  like superabsorbent polymers used in baby diapers and interestingly use of particle accelerator in chocolate factory and wine formation  were discussed by our resource person. 

  • Madam had given the new, broad and positive view to the participants to look at PHYSICS.

Overall it was really a wonderful, interesting and informative session.

IT Department(Jr. College)

 Event : Social Media Security 

The IT department (Junior college) of Thakur College of Science and Commerce had conducted a programme for S.Y .J.C Science students on 29th September 2021 through the Zoom platform at 4:30p.m. 

Social media is a breeding ground for malicious activity. It’s important that everyone  understands best practices for social media engagement and security to avoid getting hacked by a cyber-criminal. The objective of this programme was to acquire information about network security threats and measures to tackle.

Mr. Sachin Dedhia who is a founder of Skynet Secure Solutions, a company headquartered in Mumbai that specializes in CyberSecurity and Digital forensics was the Resource person and Speaker for the event. He is an independent Cybercrime Investigator and also a certified Ethical Hacker(EC-Council USA.) He is also a certified International trainer in the field of Cyber Security, Ethical Hacking, Cybercrime Investigation and Digital forensics.

The programme was attended by 134 participants that comprised of students and teachers of Junior Commerce. The programme started with a welcome address by Mrs. Sujata Poojary followed by prayer and Vice Principal Mr. N Tiwari’s address. The Guest was introduced to the audience by Mrs. Pranita Ambulgekar. 

Thereafter the session was conducted by Mr. Sachin Dedhia wherein he introduced a very useful spy software called Flexispy. This software had many useful features. He also demonstrated various techniques of keeping our confidential data safe from malicious hackers, specially on the mobile phones. He  demonstrated methods to ensure that our personal images uploaded on Social media are not into wrong hands or are not being used for wrong purposes. The involvement and interest of the student participants was remarkable which was reflected when each one of them asked interesting question. The questions from the audience were convincingly answered by the Guest. 

The session was concluded with a Vote of thanks given by Mr. Prashant Hakim, Incharge of IT dept (Jr. College). All the participants were given e-certificates.

Technical aspects during the online event were efficiently taken care by Mr. Pankaj Kathiriya and Ms. Pooja Singh.

Junior College (Science ) Maths department organised a webinar on 08/07/2021

ठाकुर कॉलेज ऑफ सायन्स एन्ड कॉमर्स एवं स्वदेशी जागरण मंच


के संयुक्त तत्वावधान में 'कोरोना महामारी- चुनौतियां एवं समाधान ' इस लघु पुस्तिका का विमोचन गुरुवार, ८ जुलाई २०२१ को  किया गया। इस अवसर पर  मुख्य अतिथि माननीय श्री अरुण कुमार (एसोसिएटेड प्रेसिडेंट , अल्केम लेबोरेटरीज) ने लोगों को कोरोना से लड़ने की कला सिखाई। इसके बाद प्रसिद्ध भागवत कथाकार भुपेंद्रभाई पंड्या जी  ने अपने आशिर्वचनों से सभी को अभिभूत कर दिया। इस अवसर पर इस पुस्तिका के लेखक मा.डॉ. भगवतिप्रकाश शर्मा जी (उपकुलपति , गौतम बुद्ध विश्वविद्यालय) ने बहुराष्ट्रीय कंपनियों द्वारा किए जा रहे कोरोना टीका संबधित अनियमितताओं का पर्दाफाश किया और इस संदर्भ में भारतीय कंपनियों की सेवाभाविता की सराहना की । कॉलेज की प्राचार्या डॉ. चैताली चक्रवर्ती ने भी कोरोना से जुड़े अपने अनुभव साझा किए।

  PHYSICS  DEPARTMENT

GUEST LECTURE: TECHNIQUES AND TIPS FOR PREPARATION OF COMPETITIVE EXAMS

Recent studies have revealed that competitive exams bring in a large amount of fear, stress 

and anxiety in students. Some anxiety or a bit of nervousness is normal. Reasons for excess anxiety or fear can be many but to list a few lack of insufficient preparation, improper study techniques, distraction or lack of focus.  Physics section in IITJEE exams/CET/ NEET exam always scares the wits out of science students. 


A guest lecture guiding the students about different techniques and tips for solving mcq was well explained by Mr. Hemant Ramakant Dongre, In charge, department of physics, Annasaheb Vartak junior college, Vasai was arranged on 28.06.2021 from 4pm to 5:45 pm.  The session was attended by 190 participants. The session‘s takeaway was differentiating application of formula for two questions looking very similar. Application of centripetal acceleration using an animated video brought the right essence of the concept.

Chemistry Department

 Event : Virtual tree plantation “Go Green Plant Trees". 


The Chemistry department (Junior college) of Thakur College of Science and Commerce had conducted a programme for S.Y .J.C science students on Virtual Tree Plantation “Go Green Plant Trees” on 10th July 2021 through the Zoom platform at 6:00p.m. The objective of the programme was to create awareness towards environment by planting more trees with the correct technique . Mr.Mukul Bandiwadekar (M.Sc Botany) who is the founder of Greenometric Solutions and is a Landscape Designer and Consultant was the Guest for the event. The programme was attended by 194 participants that comprised of students and teachers of Junior Science. The programme started with a prayer and a welcome address given by Mrs.Seema Rai faculty in the Chemistry department Jr. Science. The Guest was introduced to the audience by Dr..Harshal Keer faculty in the Chemistry department Jr. Science. Thereafter the session was conducted by Mr.Mukul wherein he demonstrated the correct technique to be adopted while sowing a seed and planting a sapling of a tree . Forty enthusiastic student participants after learning the technique from the expert planted saplings of various plants like Tulsi, Hibiscus, Papaya, Lemon, Ginger ,Rose etc and also sowed different grains like, wheat, bajra in the pots at their homes with their cameras on which was seen live by the audience . The involvement and interest of the student participants was remarkable which was reflected when each one of them spoke about their plants . The questions from the audience were convincingly answered by the Guest. The session was concluded with a Vote of thanks given by Mr.Mithilesh Tiwari faculty in the Chemistry department Jr. Science. The 40 students who planted saplings were given e certificates.

Event :  Guest lecture on “Olefin Metathesis”.

Department of Chemistry Junior College 2021-22 Event : Guest lecture on “Olefin Metathesis”. The department of Chemistry(Junior Science) of Thakur College of Science and Commerce had conducted a Webinar for S.Y .J.C Science students on the topic “Olefin Metathesis" on 19 th July 2021 at 6:00 p.m using the Online platform - Zoom . The objective of the webinar was to make students aware about the Olefin metathesis reaction and its application. Dr.Prasenjit Ghosh , who is a PhD from Columbia University New York and Professor in Department of Chemistry IIT Bombay was the Resource person and Speaker for the event. The Webinar was attended by 290 participants that comprised of students and teachers of Junior Science and Degree Chemistry. The programme started with a Welcome address by Ms.Anju Singh followed by Ganesh Vandana by Ms. Seema Rai . A brief introduction of the college and its achievements was given by Ms.ReshmaTendulkar . The Guest was introduced to the audience by Mr. Vinod Pandey . Thereafter the session was conducted by Prof. Dr.Prasenjit Ghosh wherein he talked about the use of Carbon and its compounds as source of energy since the 18th century and its harmful effects on environment .He deliberated on the need and use of other clean and renewable sources of energy, eventually minimizing Carbon footprints.He talked about the importance of Olefin metathesis reactions which have less undesired by products and hazardous wastes, and its applications in synthesis of perfumes, pharmaceutical drugs etc. The students thoroughly enjoyed the session which was very informative and enlightening. Dr.Ms..Rashmi Jadhav took up the questions from participants which were convincingly answered by Dr. Prasenjit Ghosh. The session was concluded with a Vote of thanks by Dr.Harshal Keer.

Biology Department

Event :  Guest lecture on “Green initiative for healthy life”

Biology Department had organized Guest lecture on the topic “Green initiative for healthy life” on 1st July 2021 at 4.00 PM on Zoom platform.

Speaker was Ms Rashmi Joshi (Environment consultant)

Total participants were 254.

The objective was to make students aware about green initiatives for healthy life. 

To create awareness among students regarding water conservation. 

To encourage students to adapt healthy lifestyle and follow the recycle and reuse principle so as to live sustainably.

The speaker threw light on wide range of conservation strategies, steps to adapt well for healthy lifestyle

The participants were spell bound with the indepth knowledge of the speaker on the topic .

It was an interesting presentation which gave an impetus and encouragement to science students for adopting healthy lifestyle and also directions for future research.

The speaker answered convincingly to many questions raised by the participants .

The participants gave their valuable feedback on the session conducted .
