Best Practices of College - Academic Year 2021-22

Practice No. 1: Skill and Talent Enhancement Programmes (STEPs)

Objectives:

  1. To ensure enough, high quality bench marking of globally acceptable qualification standards.

  2. To train the students to understand with experiential learning and practical approach.

  3. To enhance skills of the students to be able to apply their knowledge to face and resolve real time challenges.

  4. To undiscover and hone the hidden talent of the students by knocking them against various tasks.

  5. To expedite decision making ability of the students across various sectors with speed and standards.

Context:

  1. Skills and talent are the driving forces of economic growth and social development of the country.

  2. In today’s global scenario, it is extremely important for the learners of any Institute to acquire extra knowledge over and above the regular course of study as prescribed in the curriculum.

  3. All the students need to work further to enhance their talent to be not only the part of the race but to win it.

  4. In this process of enhancement, the students need to acquire various types of skills and techniques to deal with day to day life challenges to get ready for the job market.

  5. Hence, in tune with the Vision and Mission of the College, we have decided to go ahead with the progressive STEPs.

Practice:

  1. All the Departments of the College have designed various certificate and skill development courses to bridge the gap between the curriculum and requirements of industry and corporate sectors. This provides extra knowledge to the students.

  2. Apart from that, every Department organizes various types of events at the Departmental, inter – Departmental, inter – Collegiate, University, State, National and International levels to provide requisite platform to the students.

  3. These events are organized in accordance with the vision and mission of the college along with maintenance of harmonization with aims and objectives of the Department.

  4. These events are structured and executed for active participation of the students at every level whereby students can learn through real time situations.

  5. The guidelines are issued by the Principal regarding such kind of events, which are planned out and executed at the departmental levels.

  6. There is organizing committee of the teachers and students working under able guidance of the respective Head or Coordinator along with a group of the students who participate it the event.

  7. Various types of events such as Invited Talks, Role Play, Quiz, Essay Writing, Elocution, Aptitude Test, Innovative Concept Presentation, Research Paper Presentation etc. are organized.

  8. The PR activity of the event is carried out to reach out to the targeted audience within and outside the College.

  9. The participating students are instructed well in advanced about the format, conduct and assessment methodologies during the events.

  10. The participants are appreciated, and winners are felicitated with certificates, medals, trophies, cash prizes or gift vouchers.

Evidence of Success:

  1. All the records in the form of application letter duly signed by the Principal to grant the permission, notices of the programmes, attendance records of the participants, reports of the events and geo – tagged photographs are maintained in chronological order.

  2. There is increase in the entrepreneurial activities of the students in the form of startups.

  3. There is increase in the number of the student’s placement in various industries and corporates.

  4. There is increase in the salary packages of the students.

  5. There is demand of the students from a particular sector in the industry and corporate.

Problems Encountered and Resources required:

  1. Restructuring of formats to keep pace with innovations and creativity.

  2. Maintenance of standards and level.

  3. Continuous supply of funding to plan and execute events.

  4. Space crux to organize grand level events.

  5. Motivation of Non – Teaching Staff and students.

Practice No. 2: Connecting All to Respect and Recreate Environment (CARRE)

Objective:

  1. Preservation of existing greenery in the College campus and surrounding area.

  2. Development of new green zones wherever possible, primarily in the College campus and surrounding area.

  3. Reduction in the amount of pollution in and around Kandivali.

  4. Minimization of use of plastic by using 3 R as Refuse, Reuse and Recycle.

  5. To promote environmental consciousness among all the stakeholders of the College and the society, at large.

Context:

  1. In today’s world of science and technology, where population and pollution have gone beyond control; there is utmost need to understand our blue planet, preserve it and rejuvenate it for survival of the future generations and human race, as such.

  2. We all are aware of various hazardous effects and problems faced by our environment due to intervention of human beings.

  3. We all talk and discuss about it but do not do efforts to understand it, make others aware of it and the most important do anything to actively participate do anything to preserve and enhance it.

  4. Hence, it is required that we should be committed not only to talk and discuss about environment at homes or in the classrooms but have feasible policy decisions, workable strategic planning and effective execution of the same.

  5. At TCSC, we are committed to create work force of students in the form of “Green Militia” to contribute in this mission.

Practice:

  1. The Departments, Committees and Associations are selected by the Principal and IQAC to perform this task in the beginning of the academic year.

  2. The instructions with a perspective planning are given to the concerned Heads, Coordinators, Convenors and In-Charges.

  3. The designated authorities make the plans of execution with various kinds of activities such as guest lectures by renowned environmentalists, awareness programmes, collection and distribution of tree saplings to the students, tree plantation drives, anti – plastic activities, events to promote ecofriendly articles etc.

  4. These authorities allocate the work to the teachers and students by making necessary groups as per the requirements and instructing and / or training them accordingly.

  5. Teachers along with decided students execute the activities as per the plan and timetable and results are recorded.

Evidence of Success:

  1. Tree plantation drives organized at various places in and around Mumbai have given the reports of survival of 90% plants in good condition, which is an incredibly good rate of success.

  2. Development of new green zones on the bare land by the process of systematic afforestation in association with NGOs.

  3. Lowering of temperature in the planted area by around 5 to 6º C as compared to the surrounding area.

  4. Increase in the level of ground water to support the other wild plantation in and around worked area.

  5. Availability of water and increase in its level in bore wells and open wells with decrease in soil erosion.

Problems Encountered and Resources required:

  1. Survey of various areas in and around Mumbai for tree plantation drives.

  2. Availability of saplings of indigenous plants for plantation drives.

  3. Non-cooperation and hinderance of local people in the activities.

  4. Motivation of the students for on field activities.

  5. Casual approach of the people towards environmental activities.
