Science Association report for academic year 2021-22

During the Academic year 2021-22, various Activities were organized by Science Association, to enhance the knowledge of students in diverse fields of science and technology. The details of activities conducted are as follows:

On 28thSeptember, 2021 Science Association & Department of botany, organized an Online Gust lecture on "Novel Aspects & Challenges of High demand Medicinal Aloe vera plant and its future prospects " on zoom platform. Resource person Dr. Kiran Patruni, Assistant Professor, Department of Biosciences, Indrashil University Gujrat, addressed the teachers and F.Y. B.Sc., SY. BSc., T.Y. B.Sc. & M.Sc.(Botany) students. More than 350 participants attended the session.

Science association organized one day field visit to Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Borivali (E), for F.Y. B.Sc. S. Y. B.Sc., T.Y. B.Sc. and M.Sc. learners on 27th February, 2022.The students learnt about the concept of Biodiversity and its conservation, as well as importance of Borivali National Park. Total 119 students from F.Y. B.Sc., S. Y. B.Sc., T.Y. B.Sc. and M.Sc. Participated in the visit along with the Members of Science association.
Science Association celebrated National Science day on 28th February, 2022 in Pandit Devprabhakar Shashtri Studio of Thakur College of Science & Commerce. Documentaries related to Science were screened. Total 73 Students fromF.Y. B.Sc. S. Y. B.Sc., T.Y. B.Sc. and M.Sc. class participated in the event.
On 11th March, 2022, Science association in Collaboration with Department of Mathematics & Statistics, organized one Day visit to Nehru Science Planetarium for F.Y. B.Sc. S. Y. B.Sc. & T.Y. B.Sc. Learners. 28 Students along with teachers participated in the visit.
Science association, in Collaboration with Department of Physics, organized one day visit to Nehru Science Centre, Worli, Mumbai for F.Y. B.Sc. S. Y. B.Sc., T.Y. B.Sc. on 12thMarch, 2022. 36 students from F.Y. B.Sc. S. Y. B.Sc. and T.Y. B.Sc. Participated in the visit along with the Members of Science association.

On 24thFebruary, 2022 Origin-2022, an Intra-Collegiate Science Exhibition, was Organized by Department of Zoology in collaboration with Science Association, Thakur College of Science & Commerce (Autonomous). Approximately 119 exhibits and 287 students Participated and presented their exhibits comprising of Undergraduate and Post Graduate learners of Degree College, Science competed simultaneously under seven different tracks. Student’s presentations included theoretical and experimental aspects which foregrounds their subject content. The event was Judged by the subject experts from different academic Institution as well as Industry.Dr. Vishal Patil, State Key Laboratory of Environment and Ecology, Xiamen University, Fujian, China., was the judge for Life Science (Botany, Zoology & Biotechnology). Dr. Vinod Panchal Assistant Professor, Royal College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Mumbai, for Physics, Mathematics & Statistics. Mr. Amarjit Chaurasia VJIT, Barclay’s, Pune, for computer science and Information technology and Dr. Mustaqeem Mohammed Abbas, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry Royal College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Mumbai for Chemistry. They lauded the efforts of the budding researchers and declared three winners each from the departments of Chemistry, Physics, Zoology, Botany, Biotechnology, Mathematics. Statistics, Computer Science and Information Technology. Origin 2022 provided an excellent opportunity for the participating teams to offer their scientific research approaches. entrepreneurial skills and innovative solutions to solve real time problems.
