In the Academic year 2022-23, various Activities were organized by Science Association, to enhance the knowledge of students in diverse fields of science and technology. The details of activities conducted are as follows:
On 19th and 20th August, 2022 Science Association, organized Gust lecture on "Responsible e-Waste Management" for Degree Science and Degree Commerce separately. Resource person Mr. Omkar Ganu, from Karo Sambhav, addressed the168 students from science and 177 from commerce streams and made them aware of the environmental problems related to e-waste, and also suggested the use of modern technology to deal with e-waste disposal and recycling of the e-waste materials.
Science association in collaboration with department of Physics, organized one day field visit to Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai for F.Y. B.Sc. (PCM), S.Y.B.Sc. & T.Y. B.Sc. Physics, on 3rd February, 2023.The students learnt about the concept of Biodiversity and its conservation, as well as importance of Borivali National Park. Total 58 students from F.Y. B.Sc. & S. Y. B.Sc., Participated in the visit along with the Members of Science association.
Science association in collaboration with department of Mathematics and Statistics, organized one day field visit to Nehru Planetarium, Mumbai for F.Y. B.Sc. (PCM), T.Y. B.Sc. Maths, on 5th February, 2023.The students learnt about the concept of Biodiversity and its conservation, as well as importance of Borivali National Park. Total 13 students from F.Y. B.Sc. S. Y. B.Sc., T.Y. B.Sc. and M.Sc. Participated in the visit along with the Members of Science association.
Origin-2023: International Year of Millets
On the eve of National Science Day, 28th Feb 2023, an Intra-Collegiate Science Exhibition, Origin- 2023 was jointly organized by the Science Association (Degree College) and Department of Botany, in Collaboration with on the theme International Year of Millets (IYM), according to the declaration of United Nations General Assembly dated 5th March 2021 that Year 2023 will be celebrated as IYM, to harness the untapped potential of millets for food security, nutrition and sustainable agriculture. About 267 enthusiastic research teams comprising undergraduate and Post graduate learners of Degree College (Science Stream) from different departments participated and presented theoretical and experimental aspects of their exhibits / working models based on sustainable agriculture, nutritional values of millets as well as other conventional crops, climate change, pollution etc. and the best 3 exhibits from each department were given first second and 3rd prizes and overall 3 exhibits/models were selected from all the department and awarded first second and third prizes. Dr. Balkrishna Gore, Head, Department of Zoology, Bhavans College, Andheri (West) Mumbai, was on panel of judges for Botany & Zoology. Dr. Abdul Kayum Karam Hussain Chaudhary, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Royal College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Mira Road (East) Thane, was invited to judge the Physics, Mathematics and Statistics exhibits. Dr. Abhijit Kadam, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Wilson College, Chowpati, Mumbai, was invited for Chemistry and Biotechnology exhibits and Mrs. Vaishali Mishra, coordinator, Department of Information Technology and Computer Science, Nirmala College, Kandivali was invited for Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science and Animation Exhibits. All the judges appreciated the efforts of the participants and encouraged them Origin-2023 provided an excellent interface to the participating teams to unleash their creativity.
Science Association celebrated National Science dayon 2nd March, 2023 in Pandit Devprabhakar Shashtri Studio of Thakur College of Science & Commerce. Documentary on Honorable Ex President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was screened. Total 115 Students from F.Y. B.Sc. S. Y. B.Sc., T.Y. B.Sc. and M.Sc. class from various subjects of Science participated in the event.
