STUDENTS’ COUNCIL- ACADEMIC YEAR 2022-2023
Students’ Council started this Academic year by nominating lady representatives. The council was formed with academic toppers from different department and representatives from sports, NSS, NCC and cultural. GS was elected from among them. The first activity of the year was YOUTH PARLIAMENT which was conducted under the aegis of Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. In this mock parliament, the real parliament was mimicked with absolute precision as mentioned in the portal of parliamentary affairs. Each participant received certificate of appreciation from the Ministry. Due to popular demand by the students, LIVEMINT was conducted thrice and was participated enthusiastically by the students. This year, as per the direction given by UGC, Students” Council organised BHASHA DIVAS. It was fun to watch students going back to their roots and presenting a play, a poem or a song in their mother tongue. We even got Manipuri student teaching his language to us. Apart from above, regular events like MR AND MISS THAKUR, CHRISTMAS FERVOUR, COOKIE AND CHOCOLATE DAY, TRADITIONAL DAY etc were celebrated with lots of zeal and enthusiasm.
YOUTH PARLIAMENT:
YOUTH Parliament was conducted on 22nd August, 2022. Registration for the same was done with Ministry Of Parliamentary affairs under TARUN SABHA. Following all the procedure given by the Ministry, Youth Parliament was conducted with lots of enthusiasm. Entire procedure were filmed and uploaded in the portal of Ministry of Parliamentary affairs. 74 Students registered for and against the topic and debated and deliberated on topics of National importance which were given beforehand. LIVEMINT:
On 10th August, 2022, the first LIVEMINT of this academic year was organized by the Students’ Council of Thakur College of Science and Commerce. LIVEMINT provides platform to the students to discuss and deliberate on current affairs. Students are asked to choose and prepare on topics ranging from Political; Economic, Environment, Educational, Technology, Medical, Legal, entertainment and sports. In the 1st LIVEMINT, 48 students mostly from BMS and BScIT participated in the event. The students research and gather news from newspaper and other online medium. Many students join as the audience and give their inputs in the discussion. Students participating in this event become aware of the current affairs around the world and learn to express themselves on a platform.
Livemint 1: 10th August, 2022
Livemint 2 : was conducted on 22ND September, 2022 by BAF students. 21 students participated in the event. They collected news under different heads and discussed and deliberated on them.
LIVEMINT 3 was conducted on 9th Jan, 2023. 72 students from BCOM and BSC joined to discuss news and views of the world. The discussion was well conducted and a student from LGBTQ community brought forward few insights of the plight faced by them in the society with example of some instances.
CAKE AND COOKIE DAY
With lots of enthusiasm CAKE AND COOKIE DAY was celebrated on 18th November, 2022. 6 teams of bakers and chocolatiers were selected to put up stall and showcase their talent. Students enjoyed cookies and cakes and all the stalls finished their supplies before the day could end. This is also an attempt to encourage students to showcase their entrepreneurial skills. BHASHA DIVAS
Bhasha Divas was celebrated on 12th December, 2022 at 11am in the Seminar Hall. The event was organized to appreciate the diversity of Indian languages and encourage students to represent their culture and languages. Bharatiya Bhasha Divas is celebrated on 11th December, 2022 to commemorate Janma Jayanti of Mahakavi Subramania Bharati, a multi linguist and freedom fighter, the Students’ Council of Thakur College of Science and Commerce (TCSC) organized a competition on 12th December, 2022 on the same theme. Ms. Maushomi Pal, who has extensive work experience in firms such as IBM, Wipro, Mitsubishi and is currently the founder and CEO of Woodpecker Media, was invited as chief guest to judge the competition.
There were total of 49 participants in 31 groups with an audience of 262 students. Participants represented their languages through various art forms such as dances, songs, poetry, monologues, speeches, etc. The various languages represented were Marathi, Malayalam, Hindi, Sanskrit, Tulu, Tamil, Marwari, Maithili, Sindhi, Bhojpuri, Oriya, Gujarati, Bengali, Urdu, Telegu, Konkani and Kutchi. An online quiz competition was also conducted in Bhasha Divas to test students’ knowledge on different Indian languages. 426 students responded to the online quiz.
The winners were
1st place Mr. Omkar Ravindran( SYBSc IT).
2nd place Mr. Surya Singh (SYBSc IT).
3rd place Mr. Om Gaikwad ( TY Data Science)
and Ms. Tanu Singh T Y BSc ( Chemistry). The performances deserving special mentions were Ms. Gauri Newalkar, Ms. Vaishnavi and Ms. Priyanshi, Ms. Mirthula Naidu and Mr. Sangameshwar.
Campaign for Plastic free Campus: Students’ Council organized a campaign on 8th and 10th DEC, 2022 to make students aware of negative impact of plastic in the environment. Students targeted plastic water bottles and urged them to bring their own water in their own bottles. This will discourage them to buy water which is sold in cheap plastic bottles. These plastic bottles have huge impact on environment as well as health. Water from plastic bottles carries micro plastics which are not good for health and these plastic bottles pile up and create nuisance for the environment. Students were also urged to carry their own water in steel bottle and not in plastic bottle.
6. CHRISTMAS FERVOUR was celebrated with lots of enthusiasm on 23rd December, 2023 by the members of Students’ Council. Secret Santa was played and students were elated to get surprised gifts from their friends. A Christmas tree was decorated and students sang Christmas carol with absolute glee. There was a message board where students put forward their message and posted.
TRADITIONAL DAY was celebrated on 15th December, 2022 along with FUN and FAIR, 2022. On the day, all students, boys and girls dressed in their traditional best celebrated the day with gusto.
Mr and Miss Thakur were conducted on 20th Jan, 2023 in the Auditorium. All the department heads were required to send Mr and Miss Fresher from their department from among whom Mr nd Miss Thakur were selected. It is a prestigious Title of the college and the winner are felicitated in the TRISHNA platform by the trustees of the college. Alumni and ex GS of the college Mr Aditya Joshi and ex LR of the college Ms Radhika Sharma were called to judge the event. The event took place in three rounds. In the first round participants introduced themselves in front of the audience. In the second round they showcased their talent and selected few in the third round, answered questions asked by the judges. The winner of the Title Mr Thakur, 2023 was Mr Kartavya Yadav ( FYBMS) and Miss Thakur was Samriddhi Senga ( FYBCOM)
DONATION DRIVE: A donation drive was conducted in the college by members of Students’ Council on 29th March, 2023, to raise money for the victims who lost everything in the major fire that broke out in Appa Pada. Rs 40,520 was collected from first year and Third Year students of the college who donated generously for the cause.
