Essay Writing  Competition

College Women Development cell started its activity for the academic year 2014-2015 by conducting  an In house Activity – Essay Writing  Competition on 25th July 2014  for all the learners of the degree college was conducted on the topic related to creating awareness in amongst students like Women’s role in society, Women and Education, Women as Entrepreneur , Women in Politics , Women’s Rights. Priya M. Singh of F.Y.B.M.M secured First position  for this event  

Guest Lecture on “Awareness of Organ Donation”  

A guest Lecture on “Awareness of Organ Donation”  on 6th August 2014, In collaboration with Inner Wheel Club of Kandivali (E) was conducted   to create sensitization amongst the learners on this topic which is the need of the hour . The guest Lecturer Mr. Navin Vazirani deeply motivated the learners to spread the awareness of organ donation amongst other learners.

Poem /Slogan writing Competition

On 7th August 2014 Poem /Slogan writing Competition was conducted by displaying it in the quadrangle. Various topics relating to creating awareness of Health and Hygiene, Women’s rights, Women’s Role in society, Women and education were chosen for the competition 

Anikta Singh of T.Y.B.Sc secured First position in the Slogan Writing Competition and Priyanka Kasar of S.Y.B.F.M secured First Position in Poem writing competition.

Health Awareness Guest Lecture on “Awareness on Cervical Cancer and Breast  Cancer”

WDC in collaboration with Inner Wheel Club  Kandivali (E)  conducted a Health Awareness on “Awareness on Cervical Cancer and Breast  Cancer” By  Dr. Vrunda Karanjgaokar on 17th September 2014. This awareness Campaign has brought about clear understanding amongst the students about medical issues related to women and that health is utmost importance. 187 students attended this event.

Guest lecture “Acne Valgaris-Skin care Awareness”

A Guest lecture which was for all the students of Degree college and teaching staff on “Acne Valgaris-Skin care Awareness” on 20th September 2014,  By Dermatologist Dr. Ruchi Gupta in collaboration with Johnson and Johnson. The aim of the event was to bring awareness about skin care and ways to avid Skin Diseases.  186 students attended this event which was very interactive.

Three-day Workshop on Self Defense

Women Development Cell along with Sports Department of Thakur College of Science and Commerce and Ground n Pound MMA Conducted a Three day Workshop on self Defense with the view that it is imperative for the girl students to prepare themselves to face the menace of the society.

Professional Instructors for ground n Pound MMA and Judo Instructor of the College  Ms. Darshan  Lakhani  taught girl students different techniques of self defense. The Learners who Completed the three day training were given the Certificate of Appreciation.

Guest Lecture “Female  Health Awareness  Program On Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome”

 The second term started with  a Guest lecture organized by Inner Wheel Club of Kandivali (E)  and Sponsored by Sun Pharmacy  on the topic “Female  Health Awareness  Program On Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome” on 20th December 2014.Around 100 students and  female teachers also attended the event . Dr. Ashima Malik spoke on the topic in a very lucid manner she involved the student by her interactivity. She showed a PowerPoint presentation on PCOS and some other clippings to throw light on various aspects of this Syndrome and discussed various approaches for dealing with such situation.

Guest Lecture on “Common Endocrine Dysfunctions the Youth Face”

A guest lecture on “Common Endocrine Dysfunctions the Youth Face” was organized in collaboration with Siddhi  Life Health Foundation on 16th January 2015. The speaker Dr. Kaustabh Kulkarni  .About 150 students participated in the event .Members of  Siddhi Life Health Foundation   were also present on the occasion . the Students  appreciated the way in which the speaker was able to make students understand the different types of  Endocrine Dysfunctions faced by them  in their life and hence take care about what they eat and appreciate the need of regular exercise. 

A Motivational and inspirational   Guest Lecture on “Grabha Sanskar”

Along with Student Council the CWDC organized a Motivational and inspirational   guest lecture on “Grabha Sanskar” on 5th Feb 2015. The Speaker Preeti Jhaveri addressed the huge gathering of Girl Students which was very impressive and thought provoking. She brought about her experience as women. She stressed on the importance of good , healthy and spiritual lifestyle  to be led by each one of us. Her advice would definitely give a new approach to the students in their lives as well as their studies.

The college WDC Notice board is regularly updated by the students with issues, their pro and cons or awareness creating messages regarding the above topic.

WDC(TCSC) Along with Women Development Cell of University of Mumbai organized One day workshop on “Gender Sensitization and Sexual Harassment” on 14th February 2015 .  

The Women Development Cell of Thakur College of Science and Commerce Kandivali(E)  along with Women Development Cell of University of Mumbai  organized One day workshop on “Gender Sensitization and Sexual Harassment” on 14th February 2015 .  The primary objective of this workshop was to develop greater sensitivity towards Gender Equality and understand the Role of CWDC for its Conveners and Members.

The workshop was conducted in three sessions1) Understanding gender and How it operates in society  Sexuality- Personal Boundaries . 3) Redressal of Complaints of Sexual Harassment and Law 

The workshop started with the inaugural function .DCP Ms. Sharada Raut was the chief Guest of the Occasion , Chairperson of Women development cell of university of Mumbai , Dr. Mrs. Kranti Jejurkar , Principal  Dr. Mrs. C.T. Charkaborty  of Thakur  College of Science and Commerce  and Convener of the College Women Development cell Mrs. Reshma Desai  were the other dignitaries 

Dr. (Mrs.) Kranti Jejurkar informed  about various forms of Sexual Harassment and  Role of the College Women Development Cell  in case they are  faced with the complaints of Sexual Harassment. She also highlighted the procedure to Redress the complaints of Sexual Harassment received from female students, teaching and non teaching women staff.

The workshop was attended by 63 participants from various colleges of Mumbai. The workshop provided a platform to academicians, activists and students to share experiences of engaging with gender issues in their institutions. 

 This workshop was able to provide opportunities to identify areas where which needed to make educational institutions more gender-sensitive. 

 This Academic year saw the students and teachers participate in the Women Development Cell’s informative, innovative and inspiring events whole heartedly and actively.
