Orientation Program

An orientation program and Guest Lecture was conducted for Learners as well as for the members of WDC on the Topic “Awareness on Online Sexual Harassment And Women’s Right in work Place on 24th July  2015.


Guest Lecture in collaboration with EMCURE pharma “Health and Hygiene for Better Living” By Dr. Sejal Desai

 Development of women also includes their wellbeing. Women ‘s health which includes both nutrition and health services needs to be adopted and special attention should be given to women and the girls at all stages of the life cycle . In view of such approach the WDC organized a Guest Lecture in collaboration with EMCURE pharma “Health and Hygiene for Better Living” Addressed  By Dr. Sejal Desai on 7th August 2015.


“Case study Based Power Point Presentation Competition  on 14th August 2015

We hear about many cases where different form of violence against women , physical or psychological  are committed  to bring about awareness of such case which have been tried in the court and measures taken to reduce or eradicate such incidences WDC conducted a “Case study Based Power Point Presentation Competition  on 14th August 2015 These presentation required that the Case study reflects positive  impact due to the case on the upliftment of the status of women .

Workshop was ‘Gender Sensitization using Theatre Techniques’ in collaboration with LAADLI, a Girl Child Campaign by Population First

 The Women Development Cell of Thakur College of Science & Commerce organized a workshop in collaboration with LAADLI, a Girl Child Campaign by Population First which works on subjects related to population and health issues within the framework of women’s rights and social development amongst others. The topic of the workshop was ‘Gender Sensitization using Theatre Techniques’ on 29th January,2016 which was conducted by the prestigious speaker Ms. Priti Gopalkrishnan, the Project Director for Population First and Ms. Melani Fernandes the Project coordinator.

The workshop helped the students and made them more aware towards gender sensitization by using creative medium as that of 1 Minute movies. It also guided them to carefully and sensibly define the role of a man and a woman in the society and the equal positions they hold, which due to some deep-rooted prejudices are being moulded for someone’s benefits. The students pledged to curb the wrong practices against woman in all possible ways and to strive for Gender Equality at all stages.

Seminar on 'Woman Be The Change' 


On 30th January, 2016 WDC along with Aikatmya organized a seminar on 'Woman Be The Change' 

The workshop was a game-changer for women of all ages, especially young women. Alpana Swarup, the speaker, has been around the world and has worked in multiple capacities – including being a fashion designer, a news anchor on television, has done voice over for Doordarshan. Ancient wisdom is her passion and Aikatmya is her brainchild, through which she has actively changed the life course of people both in India  and abroad. 

 The WDC Workshop awakened the women within and helped young women discover that they too can move mountains. The event was a grand success.

Two Day Self Defense Program For Women on 4th and 5th February, 2016 -Diplomats Professional Services Ltd.

Women Development Cell along with Diplomats Professional Services Ltd. organized a Two Day Self Defense Program For Women on 4th and 5th February, 2016 .The workshop was conducted by Ankita Bane, a self defense instructor, who is qualified in budokan karate, horse riding, military parade, shotokan karate and women's boxing.

Some of the main points of the workshop was :

  • To focus is more on Prevention, Avoidance and Escape against most threats both before, during rather than fist fight or violence.

  • Self-realization of your own physical power – you are ready to survive irrespective of your size, strength or fitness level.

  • Awareness of latest crimes and busting of older well-known myths.

  • Understanding a predator’s game plan and how to defeat it.

Girl students from various streams and courses had participated for the same and the two day event was a grand success.

Sexual Harassment and Gender Sensitivity" by Kamayani Bali Mahabal.


Women development cell, along with Inner Wheel Club of Bombay, Kandivali had organized an awareness lecture on "Sexual Harassment and Gender Sensitivity" by Kamayani Bali Mahabal. On 11th February, 2016 in  Seminar Hall

Kamayani Bali Mahabal is  a  creative, innovative, self-starter and effective advocate of human rights for more than a decade, with special emphasis of gender, health and human rights.

The lecture was addressed to both male and female students of the college to make them understand the issues faced by genders due to gender discrimination. The lecture was a real eye opener to the students and gave them insight into this topic to think about.
