WDC Report for Academic Year 2016-17

Orientation Program

 The Women Development Cell started the Academic Year with Registration Drive for registering students as members to the Committee in the month of July –August 2016. This year 177 learners enrolled themselves to the Committee. An Orientation Program of the learners was also conducted. This program was create awareness among learners about  the working of  WDC and it’s the kind of awareness program  which can to held in the college campus  of better working environment. 

Guest Lecture on “Gender Sensitivity “ By Ms. Vibharani

In collaboration With Inner Wheel Club of Bombay, Kandivali WDC conducted a Guest Lecture on “Gender Sensitivity “ By Ms. Vibharani (Writer and Theater Personality). The Speaker in her unique way of moving one minute short films discussed the severity and sensitivity of need Gender Equality and us becoming a Gender Sensitive Society. 

Guest Lecture on “Women be the change” Ms. Alpana Swarup

Ms. Alpana Swarup Life Coach  and Founder of Aikatmya  Oneness  conducted a guest lecture on “Women be the change” in which she discussed about Awareness against Sexual Harassment and understanding oneself to live a dignified and  confident  life style . She urged the students to be more self-sufficient and aware as well as alert about their Rights. She explained in detail the different types of Sexual as well as mental harassment and  discussed ways of being able to stand up for one’s own dignity and self-respect. Overall the session was very interactive and motivated the students. The Event was held on 10th January 2017 

Women’s Self  Defense and Fitness Workshop in collaboration with MMA  Ground and Pound  under the Initiative “AARAMBH”  

WDC In collaboration with  MMA  Ground and Pound  under the Initiative “AARAMBH”  conducted a Women’s Self  Defense and Fitness Workshop with the support of Sports Department of the college  in Gymkhana for Two Days  on 20th and 21st  January 2017 . The Instructor Guarav Pandey and his other Colleges gave demonstration of different self-defense techniques and also taught the Girl students many ways of self-defense which were powerful as well as easy to adapt. The Two days training was extremely effective and students felt empowered and confident. The workshop was attended by 70 learners.

Workshop on Personality  Grooming  “ EXCELLENCE 360”

A Workshop on Personality  Grooming  “ EXCELLENCE 360” was held to create among students confidence for Public Speaking , understanding the importance of Power Dressing  and Courage and Confidence Development  to face the life challenges. This workshop was conducted by Ms. Alpana Swarup Life Coach and Founder of Aikatmya Oneness .The workshop was of Four  sessions.

Slogan Writing Competition  

As a part of In-house activity  WDC  Conducted a Slogan Writing Competition  on the topics- Women and Education, Women Empowerment, Awareness against Sexual Harassment , Awareness on Women’s Right  Learners were allowed to submit the slogans up to 30th of Jan 2017. The Display of slogans was held on 7th March  2017. The Winners of the Competition were 1st Position – Ms. Manisha Prasad(T.Y.B.Sc –CS) and 2nd Position Ms. Khusbhoo Singh (S.Y.B.Sc –CS). 

“Awareness Program on Internal Complaints Committee”

Women Development cell along with Internal Complaints Committee conducted an “Awareness Program on Internal Complaints Committee” on  27th  February 2017. The event was inaugurated by Principal of Thakur college  Dr. Mrs. C.T.Chakarborty  who spoke on  the fact of importance of value based  Education and ill effects of Sexual harassment of the Over well-being of the student s and the environment of the college itself, the in her effective and inspiring words conveyed to the learners the import of Internal Complaints  committee and Women Development  cell and the methods of   register the complaint with the internal complaints  committee  without any kind of fear or  regrets.  The Members of both the committee took active part  in promote the understanding of how the register a Complaint of Sexual Harassment and what are the steps of action to be taken once the case is registered. The students were made aware of what kind of unwelcome gesture and actions come under the preview of Sexual Harassment what are the Laws to deal with such situation. The Presiding Officer of the committee Dr. Shriley A gave an overall introduction about the ICC. The Conveyor of WDC Mrs. Reshma Desai explained in details the steps to registering the sexual harassment case and the time period of its various steps. The Member of ICC Ms. Urmi Shukla explained the different ACTS and Ordinances that are applicable under ICC. 

The Women development cell strives to create awareness among the leaners   about women empowerment awareness against sexual harassment and the also helps in generating awareness amongst the learners a sense of gender sensitivity.
