WDC Report for Academic Year 2023-24


The Women Development & Empowerment Cell organized numerous impactful events aimed at promoting awareness and empowerment among students and staff. These events covered a wide range of topics, including self-belief, menstruation hygiene, digital harassment, breast cancer awareness, financial literacy, and gender equality.

Workshop on Self-Belief and Menstruation Hygiene: Conducted by Mrs. Nikita Patil on 19-06-2023 , the workshop emphasized the importance of self-belief, grooming, interview preparation, and menstruation hygiene, benefiting over 500 students and faculty members.

Poster Making Competition on Gender Equality & Inclusive Society on 1-08-2023: This competition encouraged research and creative portrayal of gender equality issues. 43 students participated. The winners for the poster making competition were

Workshop on Garbha Sanskar: Dr. Priti Jhaveri  on  24-08-2023 led a session on holistic approaches to pregnancy and childbirth, fostering awareness about maternal well-being and foetal development. 390 learners participated.

Guest Lecture on Eliminating Fear and Embracing Success: by Glancy Albuquerque's (Founder & Lead of Women’s Independence Forever (WIF) and a Global Women's Community Ambassador, Sr. manager With Finance team at Siemens) on date  26-08-2023 and 230  students participate inspired students to overcome fears and build confidence, fostering meaningful discussions and personal reflection.

Workshop on “ Empowering Women Through   Self  defence Techniques and Strategies for Personal Safety “ by  Mr.Dilip Sharma (a martial arts expert & 3rd dan black belt ,Shaolin Martial Arts Association of India) on 7-09-2023 .208    Females  participated in workshop. Mr. Dilip Sharma emphasized the importance of self-defense in enhancing personal safety and promoting gender equality.


Movie Screening on Gender Sensitization and Inclusivity in collaboration with    Kashish Arts Foundation and QKNIT foundations on  8 th  September, 2023. The session was informative. The concept of gender inclusivity and sensitization was explained very easily by 4 short films

Informative short films were screened, promoting awareness and breaking stereotypes on gender-related issues. 93 learners participated.

Guest Lecture on Topic    “ Mind Toughness to accept Challenges” by Dr.  Eshita Mandal

(Member of National Editorial Board of Indian Journal of Mental Health, experienced Mental Health Professional)   organised on 26 th September 2023. Total  246 students participate.

The session was quite pleasant and informative. A concept such as mental toughness and improved ability of facing challenges, which is a subject in itself, was explained in a very understandable manner because of the speaker's way of communication. 

Guest Lecture on DIGITAL HARASSMENT” by  Dr. Raina Khatri Tandon(CEO Right2Rise) on 6th October 2023 .  233 learners attended . She highlighted the various forms of digital harassment, its consequences, and ways to combat it, including legal and ethical aspects.

Guest Lecture on topic  “ Breast Cancer Awareness “ by  Dr Daxa Thakkar (Junior Clinical Co-Ordinator Asian Cancer Institute, Mumbai on    27th  October 2023.  129  Students  & 26 teaching & Non Teaching  were present  for the session Dr. Daxa Thakkar educated participants on breast cancer, its risk factors, early detection methods, and available support services.


Guest Lecture on “ 1+5 Diseases  and their Management”   by Dr. Ujjwala Baxi Registered Dietitisn at poshan –cure thru diet  on 14th December 2023 for 77 staff members.She  addressed health issues through dietary interventions, emphasizing personalized nutrition and lifestyle habits for better health outcomes.

Seminar on Antah Prena - The Motivated: Recognized the significance of women's entrepreneurship, featuring distinguished speakers and a panel discussion on pertinent issues.

A seminar titled "Antah Prena - The Motivated" on December 22, 2024, in collaboration with BIM, emphasized women's entrepreneurship challenges and victories. Esteemed speakers offered practical advice and motivational stories, followed by a panel discussion addressing pertinent issues. The event left a lasting impact, inspiring empowerment and positive change.


Awareness on Beti Bacho Beti Padhao: Various activities and competitions were conducted to raise awareness about the initiative, emphasizing gender equality and the importance of educating the girl child.

Class-to-class sessions from January 18th to 20th, 2024, raised awareness about BBBP, emphasizing gender equality and the importance of educating girls. Through one-minute skits, students conveyed the message of empowerment. The sessions promoted equality and awareness effectively.

On January 24th, 2024, an online quiz assessed awareness of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative, aiming to promote girls' rights and combat gender discrimination. Held from 8:40 to 9:10 am, 1534 participants showed significant interest, highlighting a commitment to supporting the cause. The quiz fostered dialogue and promoted empowerment for girls.

The poster making  on 2-02-2024 competition garnered 321 entries, showcasing diverse creativity and passion for social change. Participants used artwork to convey messages of empowerment and inclusion, challenging stereotypes and inspiring positive action. The competition exemplified how art can foster advocacy and contribute to a more inclusive and equitable society.

Workshop on PCOS on 9 January 2024-: Unravelling the puzzle of PCOS .The session was conducted by The PCOS Society India under the project Vijayeta, with Dr. Kaustubh Kulkarni as the speaker. PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) is highlighted as a rapidly growing health condition affecting 1 out of 5 individuals. The focus of the event was on raising awareness about PCOS. Dr. Kulkarni .Aimed at raising awareness about Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, highlighting its symptoms, challenges, and management through a healthy lifestyle.


Workshop on  "Self Defence Techniques" workshop, with 114 enthusiastic participants from diverse academic backgrounds, aimed to raise awareness about self-defence and equip students with practical skills for personal safety. Participants learned basic physical techniques and exercises promoting a healthy lifestyle, enhancing their confidence and preparedness to handle unforeseen situations.

               


Empower Her - Financial Empowerment Workshop  on 26-02- 2024. The guest speaker was Dr. Navin M. Punjabi Associate Professor &vice Principal of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics. He focused on financial literacy for women, providing insights into managing personal finances and navigating digital finance. 294 learners participated.

International Women’s Day Celebration on 10-03-2024 and 247 learners participated in association with kesav shrushtri : Empowered tribal women and educated learners about village life, promoting unity, respect, and gender equality. The event aimed to empower the tribal community and educate learners about village life. Featuring a traditional havan, cultural performances, and recognition of tribal women leaders, the celebration promoted unity and respect. It emphasized inclusivity and the importance of amplifying women's voices. Learners gained insights into tribal challenges, fostering empathy. Overall, the event left a lasting impression, contributing to gender equality, community empowerment, and cultural appreciation.

Session on Menstrual Hygiene and Menstrual Cup on 14-02-2024   and 176 learners participated : Educated participants about menstrual hygiene and sustainable menstrual products, promoting eco-conscious practices and women's health.


Data Collection for Akashara Foundation and 30 learners conducted surveys on sexual harassment in public places, highlighting its prevalence and impact on victims.

Workshop with Akashara Foundation on Youth for Change Program: Focused on citizenship, rights, and gender equality, fostering critical thinking and advocacy skills among participants.

Blood Donation Awareness Survey: Aimed to understand blood group distribution, awareness, and willingness to donate, contributing to increased awareness about blood donation.

These events collectively contributed to promoting awareness, empowerment, and inclusivity among students and staff, reflecting the Women Development & Empowerment Cell's commitment to fostering a safer, healthier, and more equitable community.

 


State Level Workshop: PDCA for POSH at Workshop


The State Level Workshop on "PDCA for POSH at Workshop" was organized by the Women Development & Empowerment Cell- TCSC in collaboration with the Maharashtra State Commission for Women and POSH at Work by The Legal Swan. The workshop aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle for the prevention of sexual harassment at the workplace as per the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. This  served as a significant platform for capacity building and knowledge dissemination on the prevention of sexual harassment at the workplace. The collaborative efforts of the organizing committee, esteemed speakers, and enthusiastic participants contributed to the success of the event.


Shorts term Certificate course:

1.Introduction to Gender Studies 

 This course in association with MAVA( Men Against Violence and Abuse) was conducted for FY learners.  124 learners enrolled and 114 students successfully completed course. Course  module was divide into six modules i) Understanding Gender  ii)Media and Gender iii) Queer Movement and struggle in India   iv)  Feminist movement and feminism v) Gender equality and women’s  projection vi) Women in development  theory and practice. The  students were given assignments and MCQ Test . The Introduction to Gender Studies course provided students with a comprehensive understanding of gender dynamics, feminist movements, and gender equality issues.


2. Introduction to Gender Sensitization and Queer Rights

  This course was offered in collaboration with One Future Collective, a feminist social purpose organization with a vision of a world built on social justice, led by communities of care.

The  course aims to foster learning and awareness among first-year students on key concepts related to gender roles, norms, patriarchy, sexuality, and LGBTQIA+ identities. Through a participatory approach, the course delves into queer history, contemporary socio-political issues, and legal provisions impacting the queer community
