WDC Report for Academic Year 2024-25



During the academic year 2024–2025, the WDEC organized a series of impactful events focusing on skill development, gender sensitization, and value-based education, engaging a large number of learners and fostering holistic growth. Under the banner of skill enhancement, several guest lectures and workshops were conducted. Topics ranged from menstrual hygiene and personality development to mental health awareness, nutrition, financial literacy, and cyber security.The institution emphasized gender sensitization and value-based education through a variety of interactive events such as poster-making competitions, film reviews, lectures, and a special event titled “Everyone Belongs,” fostering a safe and inclusive environment. Celebrations like International Girl Child Day and Women’s Day further reinforced these values through competitions, awareness sessions, and engaging cultural performances. Additionally, certificate courses on “Gender Sensitization and Queer Rights” and “Feminist Lawyering” equipped learners with critical perspectives on social justice. These initiatives, alongside consistent efforts like sanitary napkin distribution and the Privilege Walk activity, showcased the institution’s strong commitment to nurturing well-rounded, socially responsible individuals.

A Guest Lecture on “Menstrual Hygiene and Personality Development” was organized on the 13th and 14th of June 2024, from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM, in the Seminar Hall on the first floor. The session was conducted by Ms. Mishika Dhakan, Founder and Public Speaker Coach at Krishika Coaching, and a renowned Public Speaking Coach. The lecture aimed to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene while also empowering young women through personality development insights. A total of 758 female learners from Junior and Degree College actively participated in the session. As a token of encouragement and care, gift hampers were distributed to all attendees, making the event both informative and memorable.


On 19th July 2024, a Guest Lecture on "Early Age Vaccination: A Key Strategy in Cancer Prevention" was organized as a part of the institution’s Skill Development initiatives. The session was held at 9:00 AM in the Auditorium on the 7th floor. Dr. Mukesh Gupta, a well-known Gynaecologist and Obstetrician from Le Nest Hospital, served as the resource person and delivered an insightful lecture highlighting the importance of early-age vaccination in cancer prevention. The event witnessed active participation from 97 male and 211 female learners, reflecting the growing awareness and interest among students in preventive healthcare strategies.



A Poster Making Competition was organized on 25th July 2024 as a part of the institution’s Value Education initiative. The competition focused on raising awareness about gender issues, with participants creating posters on the following themes: Stand Up, Speak Out: Ending Gender-Based Violence, Empowering Girls Through Education, Media Representation of Gender, and Intersectionality in Gender Equality. The event was judged by Mr. Akash Deshmukh and Ms. Rumpa Sanpui, Head of the Department of Business Communication. A total of 27 learners showcased their creativity and understanding of the themes. The winners were Suhani Jaiswal (SYBCOM-I – 7453) who secured the 1st place, Bhaveta Shetty (SY BSc IT-B – 4111) who secured the 2nd place, and Supriya Shelar (FYBAF-C – 12412) who stood Third





A Guest Lecture on “Stress, Distress & Depression: Let’s Talk Mental Health” was organized on 20th August 2024 as a part of the institution’s Skill Development initiatives. The session was held at 9:00 AM in the Auditorium on the 7th floor and was attended by 165 learners. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Rukesheda Sayeda, a renowned Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist, and the President of the Bombay Psychiatrist Society. Dr. Sayeda provided valuable insights into mental health, helping students understand the differences between stress, distress, and depression, and emphasized the importance of seeking help and maintaining emotional well-being.



A Guest Lecture on “Menstrual Hygiene and Personality Development” was conducted on 5th September 2024 as part of the institution’s Skill Development program. Held from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM in the Seminar Hall on the 1st floor, the session was led by Ms. Mishika Dhakan, a Public Speaker from P & G. She engaged the learners with valuable insights on the importance of menstrual hygiene and its impact on confidence and personality development. A total of 117  female learners attended the lecture. To promote awareness and encourage participation, gift hampers were distributed to the female students of the Degree College.




A Guest Lecture on “Let’s Talk Nutrition” was organized on 6th September 2024 as an integral part of the institution’s Skill Development initiative. The session began at 10:20 AM in the Seminar Hall on the 1st floor and was conducted by Dt. Rheya Doshi, a Certified Dietician and Mindfulness Expert. She shared valuable insights on balanced nutrition, mindful eating, and the importance of making informed food choices. A key highlight of the session was her guidance on how to read and understand food labels, enabling students to become more aware of the nutritional content in packaged foods. The event was well-received, with 152 male and 156 female learners in attendance.




A workshop on “Empowerment & Action: Addressing Workplace Sexual Harassment” was organized in collaboration with the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) on 30th September 2024 as part of the institution’s Skill Development initiative. The session was held at 10:00 AM in the Seminar Hall on the 1st floor. Mr. Pravin Thote, Senior Program Coordinator and Gender Educator at MAVA (Men Against Violence and Abuse), was the guest speaker. He addressed the importance of creating safe and respectful work environments and guided learners on recognizing, preventing, and responding to workplace sexual harassment. The workshop saw active participation from 223 learners.



Gender Sensitization 

International Girl Child Day was celebrated on 4th October 2024 as part of the institution’s Gender Sensitization initiative. The event was held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the respective classrooms and featured an engaging online quiz designed to raise awareness about the rights and empowerment of girls worldwide. A total of 168 learners actively participated in the quiz, making the celebration both informative and interactive.


In association with the Departments of BBI, FM, and IM, an intra-college event titled Everyone Belongs: Fostering a Gender Safe Space” was organized as part of the institution's Gender Sensitization initiative. The event took place on 24th September 2024 and featured a variety of activities aimed at promoting gender inclusivity. Dr. Sangeeta Desai, Assistant Professor at SNDT, delivered a thought-provoking guest lecture on the topic “Question of Gender Safe Space.” In addition, a Poem and Essay competition centered around gender-based themes was held to encourage creative expression and deeper reflection on gender issues. The event saw active participation from 439 learners, fostering a meaningful dialogue on creating a safe and inclusive environment for all



An Online Film Review Activity featuring four movies on Gender Sensitization was conducted for degree learners. A week’s time was given for the review submission. 113 learners submitted on 17th October, 2024.

Breast Cancer Awareness and Screening Camp was organised in association with Inner Wheel Club, Kandivali, Mumbai, on 23rd November 2024, in the First Aid Room from 9.30 am to 4.00 pm. This test was conducted free of cost on a group of 38 teaching and non-teaching female staff.



 "World Investor's Week, 2024" was celebrated on 28th November 2024 by organizing a workshop for female learners. The workshop, titled “Financial Literacy & Investor Education Programme Through Gamification”  was held from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM in the 5th Floor Presentation Room. Mr. Aman Singh Chawla, the resource person, engaged the participants with interactive gamification techniques to enhance their understanding of financial literacy and investment strategies. A total of 68 learners attended the workshop, gaining valuable insights into financial planning and investment education.



16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence was conducted as a part of Skill Development  in association with One Future Collective. An Interactive Booth was formed on Safe Spaces & Trauma–Informed Practices. A large number of teachers and learners visited the booth for interaction and gender- based games.

 



An awareness session on Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) was conducted on 23rd January 2025 in the 7th Floor Auditorium for the learners. The session aimed to raise awareness about the condition and its impact on women’s health. Dr. Riddhi Desai, a Consultant Endoscopic Surgeon and Gynaecologist, was the guest speaker and shared valuable insights on the causes, symptoms, and management of PCOS. A total of An awareness session on Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) was conducted on 23rd January 2025 in the 7th Floor Auditorium for the learners. The session aimed to raise awareness about the condition and its impact on women’s health. On 29th January 2025, a movie screening of “Hidden Figures” by Theodore Melfi was organized. The movie, which highlights the untold story of three African-American women mathematicians at NASA, was followed by a review session. A total of 233 learners attended the screening, gaining inspiration from the film’s powerful message about perseverance, equality, and breaking barriers.


 

An online financial awareness session on Financial Literacy was conducted for FY and SY learners on 14th and 15th February 2025 The session was organized in partnership with the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). Dr. Raina Champawat, a BFSI Trainer and the Academic Director of RSTIL, Mumbai, was the guest speaker. She shared valuable insights on financial planning, investing, and the importance of financial literacy in today’s world. A total of 215 learners participated in this session, gaining essential knowledge to manage their finances and make informed investment decision




A lecture titled “Speak, Walk, Listen: The Art of Personality Development” was conducted on 3rd February 2025 as part of the institution’s Skill Development initiative for Degree College learners. Held from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM in the 1st Floor Seminar Hall, the session was delivered by Ms. Prabhjyot Kaur, Assistant Professor at TCSC and a well-known anchor. She guided the participants on essential aspects of personality development, including effective communication, confident body language, and active listening. A total of 272 learners attended the session, which aimed to enhance their personal and professional presence.



In association with the Department of Environmental Studies, a workshop titled “Understanding Power, Privilege, and Oppression” was conducted on 5th February 2025 as part of the institution’s ongoing awareness and sensitization initiatives. The session took place from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM in the 1st Floor Seminar Hall. Ms. Shreya Joshi, former OFC Member, served as the resource person and facilitated an engaging and thought-provoking discussion on social structures, inequality, and the dynamics of privilege and oppression. The workshop received an enthusiastic response, with 324 learners participating actively in the session.


Self Defence and Fitness Workshop was organised as a part of Skill Development for all the female learners on 13th February, 2025, in the 1st Floor Seminar Hall from 10:30 onwards. Mr. Dilip Sharma, (Martial arts expert & 3rd Dan Black Belt, Shaolin Martial Arts Association of India) was the Resource Person. No. of learners were 160.

A session on Cyber Security was organised in association of Maharashtra State women Commission on 27th February,2025. MS Sakina Shareef & Mr. Laxman Mankar , Senior project officer and Counsellor  MSWC  graced the occasion. Mr. Prasion Varghese, Responsible Netism were he spoke about the online harassment, including cyberstalking, Phishing, identity theft and inappropriate circulation . No of learners participated 288.


In collaboration with the Department of Sports, and Bachelor of Sport Science celebrated International Women’s Day as an integral part of Gender Sensitization on March 7th and 8th, 2025, with great enthusiasm.

Event Highlights:

The event began with an inauguration ceremony featuring a Rhythmic Yoga performance by students.

Chief Guest: Smt. Mrunal Mane, Police Sub-Inspector (Nirbhaya Team, Kurar Police Station), addressed the audience on the POSH and POCSO Acts, emphasizing women’s safety and empowerment.

The play "Rass Bihari Ticket Collector" offered a compelling portrayal of social themes, blending humor and realism to engage the audience. Through the journey of the titular character, the play highlighted important societal values, ethical dilemmas, and the struggles of everyday life.

With strong performances, relatable storytelling, and a thought-provoking narrative, it successfully conveyed messages of integrity, responsibility, and perseverance. The production left a lasting impact, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own roles in society. More than 428 learners were present 

As part of the co-curricular engagement and student development initiatives, various competitions and activities were organized to encourage creativity, teamwork, and talent among learners:

  • Rangoli Competition: A total of 15 teams participated, showcasing vibrant and theme-based designs. The winner of the competition was Jiya Pansare from F.Y.JC (Roll No. 5437).

  • Student Talent Show: This event provided a platform for learners to exhibit their unique creative talents. Seven students participated, with Yash Jha from T.Y.B.Com (Roll No. 6488) securing the first position and Aarpita Panigasoni from F.Y.B.M.S (Roll No. 19259) winning second place.

  • Tug of War: Promoting physical strength, strategy, and teamwork, the Tug of War witnessed the participation of 15 enthusiastic teams. The winning girls' team was led by Mahek Singh from S.Y.Com, while the second runner-up position was secured by the team led by Sonal Sanjay Gaud from F.Y.B.Sc CZ.

These activities not only fostered healthy competition but also strengthened camaraderie and student engagement across various programs.

Our students actively participated in an entrepreneurial initiative by setting up stalls and selling self-made or curated products, contributing to the development of their entrepreneurial skills under the E-Cell (Entrepreneurship Cell). This hands-on experience allowed them to apply concepts of marketing, finance, and customer interaction in a real-world setting. The initiative aimed to nurture a spirit of innovation, self-reliance, and business acumen among the learners while promoting experiential learning through practical

Walkathon (March 8, 2025):  2 KM walk from Thakur College on Theme:"Eliminating Gender-Based Violence.",Participation: 195 learners actively joined. The event successfully promoted awareness, empowerment, and community engagement, making it a meaningful celebration of women’s strength and resilience.

 In collaboration With Law department  “ Privilege Walk Activity” was organised  on 13th March 2025  was organised. 67  learners participated. The aim of activity was to create awareness about social privileges and inequality through and interactive and reflective exercise. 




In both semesters, two 30-hour certificate courses were organized for First-Year (FY) and Second-Year (SY) learners to enhance awareness and understanding of critical social issues.

  1. Introduction to Gender Sensitization and Queer Rights
    Conducted in collaboration with One Future Collective (NGO), this course aimed to educate students on gender sensitivity and LGBTQ+ rights. A total of 200 learners participated, with 176 successfully earning a certificate of completion. The sessions provided insights into inclusivity, equality, and legal frameworks supporting marginalized communities.

 

  1. Feminist Lawyering
    This course introduced students to feminist legal perspectives, exploring gender justice, human rights, and advocacy strategies. 200 learners participated, gaining knowledge on legal frameworks and the role of law in empowering marginalized genders.

Both courses received positive feedback, equipping students with valuable skills and perspectives essential for social justice and legal advocacy.

Throughout the year, free sanitary napkins were distributed to learners as part of the institution’s commitment to menstrual hygiene and student well-being.
