The eagerly awaited Annual Inter - Collegiate Cultural Festival of Thakur College of Science & Commerce (Autonomous) - 'Taarangan' proudly entered its 13th year embracing the new normal by adopting Covid-19 appropriate behaviour guidelines. Each year competitions at Taarangan have been the stage for contingents from different participating colleges of Mumbai. The format this year moved to an e-version partially, with the students dancing and swaying to various performances from their safe havens. "Taarangan - Bringing Stars to Life" tagged as #13bhimerabhi was celebrated on 28th, 29th and 30th January, 2021 including online and offline events. Taarangan-2021 themed as "Sanskaari Cybernatives' continued the legacy set forth by the previous editions witnessing an amazing line-up of artists perform in the festival.
Sanskaari Cybernatives portrayed how old tribes and cultures have socially and culturally survived after the pandemic and created a new cyberpunk world. The morning of 28 January seemed cloaked as the night sky with an amazing galaxy of stars mesmerizing the audience! Established Choreographer Mr. Feroz Khan and Playback Singer Mr. Aaman Trikha graced the inaugural function and declared the festival open Mr. Trikha’s soulful singing will be etched in our memory for a very long time. Various events like performing arts, literary arts, digital art skills and fine arts were held in the different parts of the campus lightening the mood as artists created worthy pieces.
Later, dancing to their own beat entered V Company and V Unbeatable ready to judge the excited dancers. It felt like the stage was overflowing with talent grabbing everyone's attention- no complaints at all! The sweet and melodious singing of Voice Artist Ms. Sonal Kaushal resonated in the auditorium where she was invited to judge the solo singing competition. TCSC felt immensely proud to welcome the versatile singer and music composer Mr. Arko Pravo Mukherjee who was geared up for the promotion of his latest song. The crowd went into a frenzy of excitement while looking him. They connected with the audience through their soulful vocal renditions displaying an air of escape, dreaminess and great timing.
A little later, the audience received Choreographer Mr. Akbar Sami and DJ Mak who were invited to judge the smooth yet rocking beats of the participants as they played their sets to make the crowd groove to their heart's content. The first day of Taarangan with its electrifying ambience and prolific performances by an impressive line-up of stars kept the audiences enthralled and with a smile that never left their faces!
Day 2 commenced with 'Solo Dance' competition in the college auditorium as a prelude to TCSC's Annual Day Trishna'. An Online Nail Art Competition was held to judge the creative skills of the participants. The stage braced later for the next competition in line- 'Be an Actor', where the participants had to exhibit their acting talents. Professional Actor Mr. Sandeep Anand was invited to judge this event and he left the participants in awe with his acting prowess and stage combat. Online elocution competition was conducted under the category of literary events wherein the participants exhibited their inherent talent and oratory skills on topics with a twist spicing up the competition. Continuing ahead, the stage was then set for Solo Singing with melodious performances which were judged by the acclaimed voice artist Ms. Sonal Kaushal.
The prestigious Mr. and Miss Taarangan was held online at department level where the participants showcased their talent and skills in front of an online jury. Sound of beats, instruments, percussion and energy filled the air as the Beat Boxing competition ensued with a beautiful symphony of vocal percussion beats boxing the bass. The palpable energy of a rapt audience clubbed with the energy of rapper, lyricist, composer, mix master engineer and esteemed Judge for the event Mr Sagar Shetly A.K.A. Shelly Saa was phenomenal.
Finally, the prestigious list of winners was read out and the colleges securing their well-deserved positions were S.K. Somaiya College- Germany (1st Position), ITM IHM Australia (2nd Position) and Viva College - Poland (3rd Position). Taarangan in all its grandeur tried to recreate the live ambience in a virtual setup of memories and emotions rising like a Phoenix.
