The NSS unit of Thakur College of Science and Commerce organized an “OXYGEN CONCENTRATOR HELPLINE PROJECT” in collaboration with the Making the Difference organization. 10 volunteers participated in this novel project which aimed to provide assistance and supply of oxygen concentrators at a lower rate and make them available to the general public.

Amidst the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic, the country was facing an unprecedented demand for oxygen while its non-equivalent supply made the matter worse. Hence, this project was initiated to manage and optimize the use and supply of oxygen. Volunteers were duly trained and were given detailed information about how to operate Oxygen Concentrators. Also, people were provided with the numbers of these volunteers. Volunteers seemed to be immensely enthusiastic and tenacious throughout the project which lasted for a month.

This initiative was highly praised by the locals and the college management.

NSS PORTAL

The NSS unit of Mumbai University successfully contrived a portal for its day-to-day operations. This was an initiative by 3 of its volunteers- Yashasvi Panda, Jai Doshi and Abhishek Sharma. With the advent of the Covid induced Pandemic, the need of shifting daily operations online was palpable.

In this portal, all the past and present records of the volunteers and the activites will be maintained. All the stakeholders will have an access to operate through this portal. For example, volunteers can update their profile, check attendance, leaders can assign projects, mark attendance, Program Officers (PO) can track the progress of volunteers, and projects, the Director of NSS can track the progress of leaders, PO, district coordinators, etc. These are some of the salient features of this portal. This portal will effectively reduce the manpower required to analyse, and complete administration work as things would be generated automatically after data entries.

RAKTADAATA PORTAL

In an initiative by some of the volunteers, the NSS unit has devised a portal that aims to manage, supply and optimize the supply chain of blood. Volunteers Yashasvi Panda, Jai Doshi and Abhishek Sharma worked diligently on the same.

The demand for blood was increasing, especially during the second wave of the pandemic, but the supply of blood, however, wasn’t increasing proportionally. The main reason for this disparity was that people weren’t cognizant of this problem as well as the process of donating blood. This portal Manages the records of donors, hospitals, and recipients.

  1. Reduces human error when employees keep the records.

  2. Makes it easier for donors to find the appropriate recipients to whom to donate blood by searching on the website by blood type; a list of hospitals that need that blood type will appear.

  3. Eases the distribution of blood in various hospitals in India, based on the hospital demands, etc.

This novel work received applause from the NSS Programme Officer, Locals, etc.
