National Institute Ranking Framework


The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was approved by the MHRD and launched by Honourable Minister of Human Resource Development on 29th September 2015. This framework outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country. The methodology draws from the overall recommendations broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by MHRD, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions.


The parameters broadly cover:
  • Teaching, Learning and Resources
  • Research and Professional Practices
  • Graduation Outcomes
  • Outreach and Inclusivity
  • Perception


Thakur Junior College was established in 1992, by the founding members, with the notion of providing an avenue of learning within easy reach to the growing young population of Kandivali and its vicinity. It was a natural augmentation by the Thakur Educational Trust, for the S.S.C. Pass-out students of the various schools as well as Thakur Vidya Mandir. Thakur College had a humble beginning with only 57 students in FYJC first batch of Commerce stream. Its success led to the commencement of the Junior Science stream and the Degree College in 1997 followed by the Post Graduate section in 2002. Thakur College has accomplished a spectacular growth over the last two decades of its journey towards excellence in Education and emerged as a leading Higher Educational Institution in Mumbai. The College has completed 3 cycles of NAAC with A Grade in 3rd Cycle in Sept. 2016. The College has been granted Autonomy for 10 Years by UGC, New Delhi in the Academic Year 2019 - 2020 and entered into 3rd year of Autonomy progressively, where all the programmes of Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels have become Autonomous. The College has 31 Programmes and 33 Departments in Degree College at Undergraduate and Postgraduate Levels in the stream of Science, Commerce and Arts. 


TCSC NSS gets National Service Scheme Award from the President of India on 24th September 2022. The NSS Unit of Thakur College of Science and Commerce under the leadership of Principal Dr. Mrs. Chaitaly Chakraborty and Program Officer Mr. Sushil Shinde have been doing some exceptional work for the last 20 years. We have taken up several causes which concern society, environment and underprivileged. NSS Unit at the Thakur College of Science & Commerce got the Best NSS Unit Award (for the Academic Year 2020-2021) from the University of Mumbai. The College has been awarded as the Best College by the University of Mumbai in the Academic Year 2018 – 2019. The College is ISO 9001:2015 Certified. The College is listed on 55th Rank in India, 15th Rank in Maharashtra and 13th Rank in Mumbai among the Private Autonomous Institutions by the Education World Ranking, New Delhi. The College has been awarded as “Institution for Edupreneur” by Times Group of India in the Academic Year 2019 – 2020. The College has been awarded as the “Icons of Mumbai, Western Suburbs” by the Economic Times in the Academic Year 2020 – 2021. Maharashtra Industrial & Economic Development Association has presented 12th Edition of ‘PRIDE OF MAHARASHTRA’ to Thakur College of Science and Commerce as the “Best Educational Institution of the Year Award”. This relentless endeavour of the NSS unit by collecting 1032 units of blood during the pandemic and post pandemic were acknowledged by Dr. Suhas Pednekar, Vice Chancellor, University of Mumbai. 


The prestigious Business Transformation Leader Award by The Times Group is conferred to our trustee Thakur Jitendra Singh for doing an exceptional work in the field of Higher Education. Students of Thakur College of Science and Commerce have won 3 Gold, 4 Silver and 2 Bronze medals in inter University zone 2, Judo Championship 2022. Our student Nikhil Dubey won Gold Medal in Boxing in National Games 2022. Our student Herall Dubey of Junior College Commerce participated in Model United Nations of UN women. She earned the honourable mention award by representing as the delegate of the country Ecuador at IMUN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE The College has signed MOU with Rider University, USA; Fraser Valley University, Canada; Royal Roads University, Canada and University of Canberra, Australia for Twinning Programmes for B. Sc. (I.T.), BMS, B. Com. (A & F), B. Sc. (Computer Science) and BA-Mass Media and Communication. The College celebrated its Silver Jubilee in the Academic Year 2021 – 2022. The present total strength of the College is above 15,000 students. There are about 350 Staff Members in the College. The College has established E – Cell and also the Incubation Centre in collaboration with Jurisearch Pvt. Ltd. The College has Centre of Excellence in collaboration with ONGC. The College has successfully launched the Mobile App, which is used for various activities such as Profile, Timetable, Daily Attendance, Assignments, Notifications & Announcements etc. It is available on the App Store as well as Google Play store. The College has successfully completed Green Audit, Energy Audit and Environment Audit of the Campus with Certification for 3 years. Prin. (Dr.) C. T. Chakraborty has been selected and awarded among the 50 most influential Principals of India [Education] by the World Education Congress at Taj Lands’ End on 26th August 2021. Prin. (Dr.) C. T. Chakraborty has been awarded I2OR Teaching Excellence Award 2021 on the occasion of International Teachers’ Day on 5th October 2021. Many of the students from TCSC have been placed in various reputed companies such as Deloitte Consulting, TCS, Infosys, L&T Infotech, Accenture. Wipro, Asian Paints, J P Morgan, Byju’s, Leverage Edu, etc. Our student Divija Gambhir won the beauty pageant Ms. India Multinational 2021and Our alumna Priya Gupta (BFM graduate 2017-2018) became Tiska Mrs. India 2021. TCSC IQAC - STEPS (Skill and Talent Enhancement Program) – Various Certificate Courses, Conferences, Workshops and Guest Lectures have been arranged for students development and career progression. 


TCSC Placement Cell has shown progressive internship and placement records under this STEP program. IQAC – CARRE (Connecting all to Respect and Recreate Environment) – Various community based programs have been organized every year under the banner of IQAC – CARRE, with an aim to create a sense of belongingness, humanism and patriotism amongst the students. TCSC- Students & employee Staff Holistic Arise Program Expedition (TCSC-SHAPE): It is a single window that provides a wide range of services to students. It provides support for vernacular medium students for English speaking, financial support for bright sports students, and academic support for needy students staying in slum area, medical and personal support to the students, particularly from the thrust areas of the college. These are some of the Institution distinctiveness for students support and progression. a. Student Support Program for Holistic and Personality Development: Various personality enhancement programs conducted throughout the year for Holistic development. b. Students Support Program for their Interest in Sports. c. Student Support Program for Study Abroad. d. Student Support Program for their Interest in Cultural Activities: Three Important cultural festivals TARKASH/TARANGAN/TRISHNA are celebrated every year and Students of TCSC get chance to show their hidden talent through this platform. A Media Lab, Auditorium and Studio available for all kinds of Support and services. e. Employee Support and Services Program.

TCSC Employee Co-operative Society is a registered society which is functional more than 10 years. There are 235 members with overall turnover of 2Crore Rupees. Total 2,35,00000/- TCSC is known not only for good quality education but for its Excellent performance in curricular, co- curricular and extracurricular activities for which the institution provides the necessary facilities in the form of an up- to-date Modern Infrastructure 17 Computer Labs, 103 Class Rooms, 14 Science Labs in which 4 are for junior section, 2 Automatic Lift, 1Seminar Hall (350 Capacity) 1Audotirium (650 Capacity) and 1 presentation room with smart board. The institution has a Gymkhana with Exercise tools and playing equipment’s that includes Champion Boards, Chess Sets, Footballs, Carrom Boards, Table Tennis Boards, Gymnastic Mats, Volleyballs and Cricket Kits etc. Yoga is also practised there and teams have travelled all around India winning competitions. The institute shares 2 huge playgrounds: • Cricket ground – 39600 sq. mtrs. area • Football ground – 28810 sq. mtrs. area Coaches of International repute are appointed for Football and Volleyball. Recognized sports coaches are also appointed for Carom, Cricket, Boxing, Athletics, Taekwondo and Chess. Thakur Cricket Stadium ground has two pitches which are actively used & its outfield has patches of green grass and red soil. The ground has lush green outfield with 60 to 65-yard boundary and natural turf wicket. Thakur stadium cricket ground is one of the best grounds in Kandivali area which provides international standard multi-sport facility. It is having sitting are where 500 to 600 people can sit and enjoy the sports events. The College, in a short span has a achievements in every field and has a vision of setting international standards in the arena of education. Skill Development, Entrepreneurial Expertise, Industry Alliance, Overall development in the area of sports and cultural and Collaboration with Foreign Universities are just a few examples of our efforts for providing the best opportunities to the learners and their mentors.
